Situated on a strip of beach where Turret Road crosses the Hairini Bridge, the
namesake Silver Birch trees mark out this park. The camp offce at the barrier arm entrance, incorporates an internet kiosk. Although many sites are taken
long-term, there are some casuals available on the water’s edge. If you choose
carefully you can almost fish from your tent! A small boat ramp is available.
Recreation opportunities include a free-form thermal swimming pool, TV/
games room and reading room. The amenities include a tidy centrally-placed
kitchen, well-equipped with modern appliances. The older ablutions have
been modernised and there is an automatic laundry and dump station. Your
hosts are Sharon and Tony .Tent sites are from $20 per person and powered
sites are from $26 per person.

DESCRIPTION:

2 km from Maketu and three local beaches, set on an elevated site, this camp
enjoys delightful landscaped gardens with rural views and many homely touches.
Check in at the modern office which carries a few basic supplies. The kids
have a great playground, a large solar heated swimming pool, plus a friendly
pony, birds, turtles etc. The amenities are excellent and include a smart, partly
covered pool next to the kitchen. Here there are modern appliances and a
dining space. The ablutions have free showers, disabled access/family suite and
plenty of bathroom extras. An automatic laundry and dump point are here
too. About 30 sites are available, all with power. When it comes to relaxing,
there is a TV lounge and games room, wireless hotspot and internet kiosks
and a great covered BBQ garden with tables and outdoor lighting. To support
the local kiwifruit industry, the camp has two distinct seasons, a summer one
to cater for holiday makers and a winter one to accommodate the seasonal
workers. Your friendly hosts are Phillip and Rosalie O’Reilly. Camping costs
$12.50 to $15 per person for a powered site and $10 to $12.50 for tents.

DESCRIPTION:

A busy store and information centre greets you as you enter Awakeri Hot Springs, set in a tranquil, park-like setting. The mature grounds have a bush backdrop, with 100 powered sites and 20 tent sites. Campers have free access to two, covered, outdoor, heated swimming pools as well as the private mineral pools. (Changing room include heated floors). The alleged therapeutic properties of the soft mineral waters attract many day visitors to the park. Beside the pool complex is a modern BBQ garden with a well-lit covered dining area, great for late evening get-togethers! Play volleyball or lawn tennis, go for a bush walk or check your email using the wireless hotspot. Top marks for a superb, gleaming kitchen! Two bright ablution blocks offer free showers, plus there are two other toilet blocks around the grounds. Laundries and a dump point are provided. Your hosts are Kevin and Fiona Haig. Over the hill from Maketu, this estuary-ringed camp has large, open, level sites bordered by water on two sides. The estuary provides a scenic backdrop, as well as safe swimming and launching for small boats. There is a shop that sells the basics and takeaway meals. Campers have access to two kitchens with stoves, microwave and fridges. There are two automatic laundry facilities and two sets of ablutions - with metered showers. There are 100 powered sites and 45 tents sites - well suited for fishing enthusiasts or, surfies or divers Your friendly hosts are Ian and Bubs Foden. Tent sites are from $10 - $15 per person. On the eastern tip of Ohiwa Harbour, this peaceful camp is 4 km off SHwy 2 and offers absolute beachfront camping. Spacious, level grounds ensure that a sea frontage site can often be found or there are elevated terraced sites with superb views. As well as beach entertainment, there_s a lawn area set aside for outdoor games, an inviting children_s playground and jumping pillow. For indoor activities, the games room offers table tennis and air hockey. Smart, centrally-placed amenities include a fully-equipped kitchen opening out to a breezeway dining area under a shade sail or fry your catch in the BBQ nook. A second open-air kitchen is available at the other end of the camp. The classy ablutions are ultra clean and have timed, coin operated showers. Fisherman can use the boat ramp, fish-cleaning area, smoker and fisherman_s fridge. An automatic laundry and dump station are provided. You_ll find your friendly hosts, Todd and Nola Morgan, in the office/shop where you can buy the essentials and get internet access (wireless hotspot or kiosks). DESCRIPTION:

This charming little camp at Maketu is on absolute beachfront. The sheltered waters provide a wonderful beach playground for children, with rock pools and endless sand. Flat, grassy sites are spread across several seaside terraces connected by flights of steps and all with amazing sea views. The prime, lower-beachfront campervan sites are really quite something! The log-style ablutions are modern with free showers. The smart little kitchen has a TV, the usual appliances, and a covered porch BBQ/dining area with awesome views. The laundry has automatic machines. A licensed seaside cafe/restaurant at the park entrance is a pleasant place to spend some time, and you can get basic food items and takeaway meals here too. Your host is Shane Beech. Camping costs $30 for two people.

As the name suggests, this camp looks directly over to White Island, with absolute beach access to stunning Waiotahi Beach which is just 5 km from Opotiki, en-route to Whakatane. Adjacent to its sandy shores there are
136 sites with power and taps. The site space is generous with a choice of
open or shady areas. The offce/shop sells basic supplies during peak holiday
times. The kitchen has stoves, microwave cooking and fridge/freezer and the adjacent alfresco dining area is under cover. There are free showers in the ablutions which have plentiful hot water and homely touches. An automatic laundry, gas BBQ’s and dump station are provided. For the fsherfolk, there is a filleting bench on-site and a boat ramp is 5 km away. Kids will enjoy the
swimming pool and games /TV room. Lots of options to add to your holiday
fun & enjoyment including a beachfront volleyball area, tennis court, free kayak
use, hammocks, and playground. Free WiFi. Most accommodation has been
refurbished or newly constructed in the past 3 years.

DESCRIPTION:

A camp with a rustic atmosphere, it is set back from the beach in a rural location. The grounds are sheltered by mature trees and dotted with potted colour enhanced by the gardens and ‘creative’ touches of the many permanent ‘weekenders’ in residence. The colour scheme in the abulution is to say the least—challenging. There is a BBQ area. The limited kitchen has a stove, hobs, microwave and fridge/freezer. The two wornout ablution blocks are basic and the showers are free. There is an automatic laundry but no eftpos here.

The entrance to the camp is marked by tall palms. Here you will find 30 powered sites on grass and all weather surface, along with up to 100 tent sites. The park is not beachside, but close to the river mouth and Opotiki town centre. It is 100 meters from the start of The Motu Cycleway. Facilities include a swimming-pool enclosure, an adventure playground for the kids and a common room for watching TV. The kitchen has all the usual equipment and an adjacent dining area with ranch-sliders. In the ablutions, the metered showers are tidy and they also offer a baby_s bath. An automatic laundry, internet access and dump point are provided. Your hosts are Raje and Pawan. Non powered sites are from $15 per adult and powered sites from $18 per adult.

DESCRIPTION:

At the southern end of the town shops, look for the ‘Beach Access’ sign and
drive down a short, bumpy, gravel access road to this lovely beach reserve. In
a lovely setting between the sea and the lagoon, on slightly undulating land, is
this popular campground offering a very relaxed style of camping. There are 80

non powered sites, the wringer-plus-tub outdoor laundries are an adventure in
themselves. The single, metered, hot shower provides a central social spot (in
the queue!) on camp mornings, with the boiler being fed by paper from the
camp’s recycling programme. There are also flush toilets and basins for each
sex with 2 new toilets have been built.

Bookings are required.

There is a $3 charge per booking to cover waste disposal.
