The camp is in a pretty setting with sites situated beside a meandering stream, plenty of large shady level sites with some hard stands. The smart kitchen has all facilities including induction hobs, lots of seating, and a log burner, while right next door is a carpeted TV room and library. Outside the kitchen is a gazebo with a BBQ, outdoor seating, and a herb garden for campers to enjoy. The laundry is well stocked with appliances and the ablutions are good with roomy showers, including a disability suite, extra toilets are also scattered around the grounds. A dump station, recycling bins and card phone are available, this is a pet friendly camp. Handy to town with fishing, walking and boating on your doorstep, or have a game of petanque, snakes and ladders, chess, mini golf or hire a bike. Next door, in the domain, is a good children's playground, and this is the only camp we have seen where the sandpit actually has toys available. Your friendly hosts are Mary-Jane and Dutchy. Two people can camp here from $30 to $36 on all sites.

The only camp situated in the middle of town, this is a picturesque setting with well-spaced sites among huge specimen trees. There are a number of hard stands for vans, lots of room for tents, and all in attractive gardens. The kitchen is bright and roomy with a huge recycled wood dining table taking centre stage. Cooking by stove or hot plates, with fridges, toasters, microwave and all cooking utensils provided. Or use the free BBQ and sit outside in the covered dining area. The clean and tidy ablutions have showers in spacious cubicle, and the laundry has excellent automatic equipment and an iron. Taps are plentiful and there is a dump station. There is an appealing playground for children, including a basketball hoop, and other attractions are a petanque pit, outdoor chess, bike or pedal cart hire, or go for a walk in the public park across the road, there is plenty to do. Eftpos and credit card friendly with internet available. Your hosts are Kathryn and Brian Horrell and sites are from $38 for two people.

Just off the main highway is this beautiful camp with around four acres of park like grounds, lovely gardens and shady trees. Only opened a couple of years ago so everything is bright, cheery and new. A central amenities area, all immaculately clean, houses the toilets, showers, and kitchen. There is a really nice shaded outdoor area complete with free BBQs, slab wood tables and leaners, and a trampoline. It looks like a great spot to relax with other campers. Lots of freezer space for your catch, a fully equipped kitchen, and you can even grab some herbs, the odd lettuce, tomatoes or strawberries from the vegetable garden. The large sites have easy access and free wifi, and is pets are welcome by arrangement. The Waitaki River is close by for great salmon fishing and white baiting in season, and walking distance to the Glenavy Hotel or the local store. Eftpos and credit cards are accepted and Joe and Anne Lomas will offer you a very warm and friendly welcome. There are 36 powered sites at $20 for each adult, and $30 for two, or 36 unpowered sites at $15 per person.

On the southern outskirts of Timaru is this rural retreat amongst the trees. The grounds are level, with easy access to all sites, and are landscaped with nice trees and shrubs. An attractive kidney-shaped pool is in a fenced enclosure with deck chairs, just outside the fence is a playground and a springfree trampoline. The all-in-one service block is clean, bright and attractive and houses nice kitchen and dining area, a TV lounge with internet kiosk, and all the ablutions. The laundry has automatic equipment tucked into the corridor and there is a dump point available. Seventy powered sites (at $40 per night) , and 50 unpowered (at $38 per night), all with water taps. There is a wetlands bird sanctuary 20 mins walk along the beach, a peaceful country atmosphere but only a 3 minute drive to central Timaru and the world renown Caroline Bay beach.

DESCRIPTION:

What a great use for an old rural school grounds, this nicely laid out campground has sites that are large, level and sheltered. All the facilities are clean, modern, and recently painted. There is both electricity and gas in the kitchen and dining area, and all utensils are provided in this large, bright and airy room. Excellent free showers plus a separate toilet block with disabled access, the auto machines available in the laundry are free too. What used to be the school hall, with its lovely old wooden floors, is now a large lounge and games room with a good library and TV. The heated swimming pool, playground with a jumping pillow, and a tennis court, including tennis rackets, are all freely available for campers use. Attractions outside the camp include a golf course, forest walks, white water rafting and four wheel drive trips. There is also excellent trout and salmon fishing here. Your host is Dave Moss. Tent sites $16 for one, $10 for each extra, powered sites $36 for two, $15 for each extra person.

DESCRIPTION:

From Lake Benmore, take the turn off at the mountain end of Burkes Pass.
The journey is around 50km of unsealed road, but worth it if you want a
large lakefront camp with a boat ramp, fishing and boating. Owned by a
cooperative of enthusiastic campers, this is not luxury camping so you need
to be reasonably independent. Flush toilets are available but no showers, and there is a dump point here. Tent sites $20 per family, or a season ticket at $350 per annum.

In a rural setting at the southern end of Waimate is this well-maintained family park. Around 30 sites available in this four acre farmlet, with trees for shade and hedges for shelter. The central services block is an unusual but lovely pentagon shaped building and houses a well-equipped kitchen, dining tables, couches, as well as the laundry. Have a meal and watch TV while you wait for your washing to spin, or read a book from the library. There is only one unisex toilet and shower unit here, but they are clean and with wheelchair access. Take a nocturnal bush walk to see the locally bred wallabies, or use the free BBQ provided. All sites are $35 for two persons.

An impressive stone entrance leads to a beautiful landscaped park, where the camp takes up about two acres of it. Level sites with large trees around the edges, there are 14 power points available and room for lots of tents too. The concrete block ablutions have coin operated showers ($2), there are basic toilets, and the kitchen has a small number of cooking appliances and a small dining area. A coin operated gas BBQ and picnic tables are there for your summer meals. A coin operated auto washing machine is available, as is a dump point that you will be charged for. The offsite manager is Graeme Watts of the Waimate District Council. Powered sites are $14 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years, non-powered sites are $13 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years. Long term rates available.

DESCRIPTION:

Another lake-edge option with a choice of sites on various levels, there is no
power and fire bans are frequently in place. Lake Middleton on one side and
Lake Ohau on the other, you are spoilt for fishing choices. This reserve has at
least 20 tent sites in a pleasant, well-treed location and according to the locals
there are no sand flies. There are a couple of tables and ample rubbish bins on
hand, but the only amenities are toilets and taps. The honesty box is for your
registration. $400 for a season, overnight family tickets are $20 for two adults
and two children under 15.

DESCRIPTION:

A small number of sites behind the lodge with power and taps, and in a different
area are plenty of tent sites, under the trees or out in the open. Some sites have incredible views over Lake Ohau, but do bring your inspect repellent or buy some at reception. Campers share facilities with the lodge guests, there are no cooking facilities but you can treat yourself to a meal in the formal restaurant. There is use of a spa pool and a drying room, petrol and eftpos are available. Plenty of good fishing in Lake Ohau, a ski field nearby, and the lodge is on the A20 cycle trail. Your hosts are Mike and Louise Neilson. Sites are $20 for a powered site and $16 per adult for tent sites.

With 50 acres of large sites set amongst the pine trees, you won't have trouble
finding a spot to enjoy the peacefulness of this lakeside campground. There are
two central amenity blocks, that include modern kitchens and bathrooms, as
well as room for dining both inside and out. The tidy and stylishly corrugated
showers are free, and the laundry has excellent automatic equipment.
Scattered around the grounds are several unique outdoor camping facilities
- shower and toilets in new corrugated iron and wood buildings but with
open air feeling of the old long drops. There are also BBQs and picnic tables
placed in several places, and a dump point is provided. On the edge of Lake
Ruataniwha the swimming is great, with a jetty and slide right by the camp,
there are also several playgrounds.  At the office is a well-stocked shop where
eftpos is available, a card operated phone, and you can hire pedal cars, canoes,
paddle boards, etc from here too. Kura and Tony Ritchie will look after you
andthis is a pet friendly park. Non-powered tent sites are $17 per adult and
$10 per child (2 to 15 years) per night. Power sites $18 per person.

DESCRIPTION:

It's not often you can say that nearly every site has a view, but with this terraced lakeside campground you can. Set above the beautiful crystal clear Lake Tekapo, the 76 powered sites and 100 tent sites are sheltered by pine trees around the edges, shade trees between most sites, as well as water taps and picnic tables. There are two amenity blocks, both are spotlessly clean, modern, and recently upgraded. Both kitchens are large, bright, and with all the equipment you will need, while the laundries have an ample amount of automatic coin operated machines. The TV lounge is carpeted and has a cosy atmospher here. Coin operated showers are hot and plentiful, there is also a baby's bath and changing table and more amenity blocks about to be built. The outdoor seating area includes shelter under a marquee tent, large picnic tables and free BBQs, all looking out over that amazing view. Children are well catered for here with a good playground that includes a trampoline and sandpit complete with toys. Across the road there is safe swimming in the lake and a boat ramp, there is also the Tekapo Springs just down the road with its hot pools and water slides, and an ice rink (weather permitting). Tekapo Village is only a short walk down the track and has a variety of eating places. Your hosts are Andrea and Gavin Cox. Power sites $25 per adult, $12 for children and tent sites $22 per adult and $12 for children.

DESCRIPTION:

Road access is from Tripp Settlement Road, then on to Yates Road. The
campsite is set in 80ha of native bush, on the low foothills between Yates
Road and Station Stream and opposite the Glenburn Youth Camp. There is a relatively easy forest walk of about three hours, partly along the line of an old bush tramway and passing through several quite distinct forest types. The high point gives good views out across surrounding countryside. The campsite is close to the Orari River, which has good fishing. There is usually a water supply (but not for drinking), toilets, rubbish collection, picnic tables and barbecues.
No other fires please. Dogs are not permitted. Price per adult is $6.10 for a
site with an extra $2.50 for power per site.

DESCRIPTION:

Inland from Timaru and Temuka, is this densely treed site with around 30 power
and 20 tent sites located amongst a sheltered grove of oaks and conifers. The
camp opens from Labour weekend until after Easter and is a council owned
camp, but pets are welcome. The communal kitchen has a dining area and
open fire, while basic but clean ablutions have disabled facilities and the laundry has a free automatic washer. In the public park alongside are playing fields, a
stadium, golf course and tennis courts. Tent sites are $8 per person and $5
for children, or with power $10 for adults and $5 for children. Keys can be
picked up from the Pleasant Point Dairy on the Main Road, there will be a $20
deposit.

The Rangitata campground is now open from the 1st of September 2022 until the end of April 2023.

Situated on the north bank of the Rangitata River mouth, this is a beautiful old style campground. Most of the facilities are housed in the old style concrete block type buildings, but all have been painted and are immaculately clean and tidy. There are several different spots to camp, under trees, in small sheltered groupings, or out in the open for larger vehicles. All sites are level and the large pine tree hedges keep you sheltered if there happens to be any wind. The kitchen area includes dining table and several appliances, while the free showers and laundry are a special feature. With 24 powered sites, and plenty of non-powered, there is room for all, but be aware there is no dump station on site - lots of lovely spring water though. A very popular spot for salmon fishing and white baiting, the beach and river are only a short walk away. The camp opens early September and is open until Easter Weekend, do your shopping before you get here as the nearest shop is 24kms away at Hinds. You can bring your pets but dogs must be kept on a lead.

On the south side of the Rangitata River, this camp is set on flat grounds close to the river mouth and sea. Dedicated fisherman and can stretch stories about the salmon, trout, cod or shark they caught. Pine
hedges supply a wind break to the 35 sites with power and as many again for
tents, many of these are taken by permanents. A small kitchen has a freezer for
your catch, a dining table, and the washing machine is in here too. The ablutions
have toilets and metered hot showers. There is an outside fish cleaning sink provided.
The camp opens early September, coinciding with fishing seasons, and is open through until Easter weekend, catering for fishers and campers.

Well what a transformation in this huge camp in the centre of Temuka.
Recently purchased by a group of locals, it has undergone a transformation.
Big old shady trees with lots of open space providing campers with around 136
power and 110 tent sites on flat ground.  There is also a beautiful new animal
friendly space set apart from the main camping area, mostly unpowered but
with a couple of powered. What used to be the tired and uncared for facilities,
are still basic but have been renovated and cleaned to immaculate standards.
The kitchens are well stocked with everything you could possibly need, herbs
gardens too, and the ablutions show the same care and attention with clean shower curtains and water blasted floors. A large laundry has ample automatic
equipment and there is internet available as well as a dump point. Plenty of
room here as you are on the edge of a huge rugby field, that doubles as tent
sites in summer, and an adventure playground is only 50m away. Close by are
facilities where you can play tennis, mini golf, go skating, swim, play 18 holes
of golf, enjoy the cycle track or just go fishing. Very friendly onsite caretakers
will help you with any queries. Powered sites $25 to $32 for two, unpowered
from $8 to $12 per person.  Extra adults are $12, under 5 are free, 5-16
are only $5.

This farm based camp is 8km south of Geraldine and is a children_s paradise, you will know you are nearly there when you see the avenue of colourfully painted windmills. Spread over a farmlet of nearly 17 hectares are 30 power sites and innumerable tent sites snuggled into pockets of shelter belts. Amenities include a clean compact kitchen and dining area, with everything you might need provided, opening to a small lounge with a TV. There is another covered area outside with a sink, as well as picnic tables for outside eating. Excellent tiled ablutions that include a family suite and disability unit, there is a dump point for porta potties only, and the porch laundry has automatic washers and a dryer. The BBQ area is well supplied with wood plus a large _marshmallow pit_ for cooking your own yummy marshmallows. Fun for the children includes donkey rides, a sandpit, BMX track, play equipment, mini golf and mini motorbikes. A landscaped area has a pool and grassed tennis court, or go and meet Skippy the wallaby and his other furry friends. Your hosts, Geoff and Kerrie, are pet and people friendly. Tent sites are $35 to $37 for two people, or with power, $37 to $40.

In the middle of suburbia, and only a short walk to the nearby supermarket, this surprisingly spacious campground has an air of tranquillity. This is a large camp broken into small camping areas, all well supplied with large shade trees. Of the 150 sites most have power and some have waste disposal, there are also extra-large sites for the bigger vehicles. A modern purpose-built block with kitchen/dining facilities, consisting of full stoves, ceramic cooktops and a fridge/freezer. There are modern toilets and showers in this building and a paraplegic/family unit with shub and shower, underfloor heating throughout. The laundry is large with auto equipment and has been recently renovated. Plenty of additional facilities are provided in the busy season, all are immaculately presented and maintained. The children can be kept busy on the challenging playground equipment, the jumping pillow or have a go on a pedal cart. No visit to Timaru would be complete without a trip to Caroline Bay which is within walking distance. Gordon and Alison Collister are your lovely hosts and they provide free wifi as well as a Spark hotspot. Tent Sites are $39 for two, or with power $43 for two, $18 extras, $10 child.

Sheltered by mature hedges, this camp is in established grounds set amongst
alpine foliage and large beech trees. The amenity block is clean, modern and
bright. The kitchen includes cooking equipment and appliances, no cutlery
or crockery though, and dining areas are provided both inside and out
(with shade). Being so close to the town centre, you can walk to the shops,
restaurants, and supermarket. Boating and fishing are great in the area, use the
fish cleaning station to sort out your catch of the day.  Bikes are available for
hire, only 50 minutes from Mt Cook, and there is a dump station on site. Your

Waihi Gorge Camping Area is located on the banks of the Waihi River, this campsite is a popular picnic spot surrounded by kahikatea, matai and lowland totara forest. Swim in the river if it's warm enough.

DESCRIPTION:

Camp on spacious grassy lawns with a border of trees in this basic domain
style campground. The three unisex showers are generously sized and toilets
are basic but clean, while the small kitchen/dining is cosy and has modern
appliances. There are two laundries with auto washing machines, and a large
common room available with TV and some seating. Gary and Roslyn have
taken over the lease of this camp and have plans for upgrades. A modest little
stopover at $14 for two people for a tent site, or $16 with power, and extra
adult is $5, children 5-16 years are $3, under five are free. Minimum charges
apply.
