Whangapoua Rd is just before Coromandel town, coming from Kuaotunu. Look for the green 'Tui Lodge' entrance sign. Campers wanting a pleasant rural stopover can camp in and around the complex's leafy gardens and orchards with free fruit in season and make use of the plentiful facilities in the backpacker's lodge. There are spotless unisex bathrooms, 2 kitchens with gas hobs and lots of appliances, a free BBQ and a summerhouse that's great for chilling out in. There is a free laundry, and free bikes. The lounge and TV room are cosy and comfortable. Your host is Dianne.  Camping is available in the garden setting or in the orchard from $20 per person.

DESCRIPTION:

Largest DOC camp in the country. Head north from Coromandel, then take Waikawau-Kennedy Bay Road. Here you’ll find relaxed, comfortable camping, adjacent to a sweeping, sandy beach. The beach is good for swimming, diving and fishing, and bush walking opportunities are nearby. North of the campsite are breeding grounds for the NZ dotterel and variable oystercatcher so please do not drive on the beaches. Facilities available are water from a tap, longdrop toilets, and cold shower Rubbish disposal at Walkaway Bay.

DESCRIPTION:

Just south of the golf club on the southern approach to Whangamata, take
Wentworth Valley Road (unsealed with a small ford) for the 5 km drive to this
relaxed, remote, self-registration campsite. From here there are interesting
walks to the Wentworth Waterfalls and the Wentworth Mines, or just take
a dip in the local water hole. The level sites to the rear of the camp are
appealing, with pockets of bush. Only cold water is provided but there is
a shower, also basins and toilets. A gas barbecue and the washing-up sinks
are roofed. Room for around 85 tents, bookings are required in the summer
period. Prior permission from the camp manager is required to bring dogs.

DESCRIPTION:

This long-established beach camp is close to 'surf-capital' Whangamata's shopping centre and just 100m from the beach. Intimacy with your neighbour is almost guaranteed in summer with the close proximity of the sites and there are plenty of permanent _weekenders_ in place. Casual campers have good practical amenities spread across three blocks. The large open-plan kitchen has all the essentials; the ablutions have tidy metered showers and there are outdoor (cold) _swim_ showers. There is also a large, well-loved, TV and games room. An automatic laundry, boat wash and dump point are provided. In the peak summer period, you can enjoy organised family entertainment, and there is an on-site general store with a phone. DESCRIPTION:

This holiday park is on the site of the old Whangapoua Forestry Headquarters.
It Is located at the top of the Whangapoua Harbour on a large area of flat
rural land. Just beyond the harbour is the iconic Whangapoua Beach and the
stunning world renowned New Chum Beach.The beach has been voted “one
of the top twenty beaches In the world and is an unspoilt paradise accessible
only by foot. Matarangi Beach and two boat ramps are within 10km radius
and there is a café just 200m from the park. No dogs are permitted. The
park is within the Whangapoua Kiwi Habitat zone. A restored modern clean
kitchen has a large sun deck There is an ablution block complete with hot
water showers, toilets and laundry facilities. The camping area is large and flat
so can easily cater for large vehicles. Fresh water is available, wifi available, and
new playground has just been installed. The camp is 6km from the beginning
of the New Chum’s Beach walk. Cost from $15 per adult per night, $7.50 per child 3 to15 years. Power is $5 per night per site. Your hosts are Suzanne
and Aaron. Seasonal rates apply and the camp is closed from May to October
