Arapohue Bush Camp Trust runs the Reading for Rascals programme at Windy Ridge Boys Farm, Warkworth.

It is an alternative programme run by Graham and Joan Crawshaw for boys struggling to achieve literacy in the traditional school environment.

The couple opened their first camp in 1962 on the family farm near Dargaville and have been working with underprivileged children ever since.

DESCRIPTION:

Discover Baylys Beach just north of Dargaville. This magnificent mega-beach stretches as far as the eye can see. Although the camp is not beachside, it has pleasant level lawn sites with large perimeter trees. Camping is on 22 sites with power; some have hard stands. Tent space is plentiful. The kitchen is large, with plenty of eating areas both inside and out, and cooking by hot plates, and microwave. A fridge/freezer is provided. A BBQ pavilion has a gas BBQs and a sink. Children have a playground. The ablutions are very clean with good free showers, towel, liquid soap and hand dryers at the basins. The laundry has automatic washing and drying equipment. Nearby is 7 day shopping with two shops, a licensed caf_ and a licensed general store, or visit the Funky Fish. You can hire golf clubs at the camp and there is a dump station for paying guests only. Your hosts, Trish and Mark Rolfe will tell you about Waipoua Kauri Forest trips, and horse treks. Hire a quad bike and see more of the beach. All sites are $18 per adult, $10 per child and the camp is pet friendly.

DESCRIPTION:

Turn off the coastal road from Russell. Nothing bland about this camp, which
dominates both bays on each side of the isthmus. Water taps are at all 40
power sites. There are 2 blocks of clean basic ablutions. The showers have
$1 tokens. The kitchen is small but clean. Automatic laundry equipment is
provided. The camp store has Eftpos and is open longer hours, during peak
season. Extra charges apply for waterfront sites: beachfront powered sites $22 per person, non
powered $20 and rear tent sites are $21 for power and $19 non powered.
Seasonal Rates apply. Wayne and Tupou are your hosts. Small friendly dogs
are welcome.

Camp Waipu Cove is right on the foreshore as you can see. Within the camp are 140 powered sites and 32 non powered sites, these are well lit at night. Throughout the camp modern amenities blocks have heaps of hot water, spacious and airy ablutions with metered showers, nice kitchens, dining areas and laundries which are well-equipped with automatic machines. There is an all weather TV room, adventure play equipment, trampolines, a boat ramp and a medical facility are available in summer. Wi-fi (additional cost) and a dump station are available too. No animals here please. Your hosts are Anton and Lucy. Power sites are from $22 for 1 adult, and non-power from $20. Seasonal rates apply. This comfortable camp is in the centre of town, just off the main street and
a very short walk to the adjacent shops and restaurants. There is a camp
kitchen with stove, sink, microwave, and all necessary pots, pans, cutlery and crockery. Some powered sites have private en-suites if required ($20 per adult) or there are spotless disabled friendly shower rooms with basin and toilet. All sites have fresh water and there is a dump station. There are 20 sites, 18 powered ($15 per adult) and non- powered sites ($12 per adult) Ray, Lucy and Paul are your hosts.

This is a well presented camp in a quiet location about 1 km from the town
centre and close to the Olympic size swimming pool. A focal point is the
outdoor kitchen/BBQ area, well lit at night with a generous amount of seating.
A playground is alongside. Flowers and trees are dotted around this level
camp. The amenities are smart and up-to-date. In the corridor kitchen
there is plenty of bench space. Cooking by microwave, full stove or hot
plates. The laundry hosts automatic equipment and an ironing centre. Great
housekeeping here. The Jacobs are the hosts. Sites from $18 per person.

DESCRIPTION:

Beside a magnificent stretch of the Tasman coast, this camp is nestled into a
plateau above the bay, where there is a cluster of mainly holiday homes. You
will find 18 power sites 12 of these are non power plus plenty of tent space. An ablution block has hot water showers for $1 and flush toilets. In the
gazebo outdoor kitchen there are two fridges, microwave, two electric hobs,
a small bench top oven and a BBQ. Dine at one of the 3 large picnic tables
that are undercover and protected by clear roll down plastic windows. It is
an open secret that this is a great place to fish. The caretakers are Barry and
Betty. New rates from 1st November 2017...$10 per person per day...$10 per day for power... under 5"s free.

DESCRIPTION:

Pay a visit to the Marine Reserve at Goat Island; explore the waters with
friendly, colourful fish. Just up the road from the beach there is a farm/camping
spot that enjoys sea views and caters for families, with a playground and lots
of areas to explore. There are a number of level camping areas, though only
8 sites with power. The main building houses a fully catered kitchen with all
utensils and other facilities, a lounge with TV and a pool table, tidy ablutions
with free hot showers and a porch laundry. The outside dining and BBQ area
are open to the elements. Here you can gather around the bonfire in the
evening.  Dive gear can be hired. All sites are from $18
to $25 per person. Seasonal rates apply.

Sites are $10 per night and there are a limited number of powered sites, at an extra charge of $10 that must be booked as per the other sites at the camp ground. Promenade Point has camping areas and a toilet block however no shower facilities, and is a true relaxed kiwiana camping experience. There is a strict no pets policy to protect the native wildlife. The Taharoa Domain reserve's beautiful crystal clear Kai Iwi Lakes are ideal for safe swimming, kayaking, fishing, boating and water skiing.
