DESCRIPTION:

From S Hwy 12 turn onto Matakohe West Road. An easy 20 minute drive takes you through undulating countryside to this restful camp beside the community hall. A circular garden greets you at the entrance. The grounds are flat with lush grass and a few shade trees, plus 3 gas bbqs for campers and picnic tables. Most sites have sea views and some are absolute waterfront. 24 power sites and heaps of room for tents. The facilities are modest but clean and decorated with colourful artwork. A small kitchen has fridge/freezer, microwaves, jug and toasters, and outside is a pick a herb garden. Adjacent to the kitchen is a fenced and roofed gas BBQ area with tables. The water laps just a few metres from the 2 x 50 cent hot showers. A tin garden shed houses the basic laundry with a washing machine and tubs. The swimming is good and you can fish off the nearby wharf. A lovely _off the beaten track_ spot for relaxing and there is a store down the road that provides your basic needs. Sites $12 per adult and $5 children, under 4yrs free.

DESCRIPTION:

Half an hours drive from Whangarei the camp is alongside the ocean at one of the top ten beaches in NZ. At the camp entrance, a large complex houses the office, well-stocked camp store and a fast-food bar. These are open in the holiday season, with a bonus of fresh-baked hot bread. during the peak season. The main sites are on level ground, well groomed, with gardens and some privacy hedges. All of the 80 power sites have taps. There is space for 40 tent sites too. You will not feel pressured here as all the sites are large. On a plateau area to the rear, are more level sites and a fish smoker. Alongside is the main amenities block with easy access to a large airy kitchen, good cooking equipment, fridge/freezer etc; beside this is a large carpeted games room for reading and watching TV. On the lower level there are unisex cubicles with metered showers and separate toilet blocks. A porch laundry has good automatic machines. A dump station is provided. The children have an adventure playground with an impressive slide. Your hosts are Nita and Tim Harrison. Sites from $15-$25 per person per day. Seasonal rates apply.

DESCRIPTION:

Look for the big Marlin at the gate. This is the best place to land _the big one_. Tutukaka is world renowned for its deep sea fishing and recognized as the No 1 Dive location in New Zealand, close to the Poor Knights where the frigates Waikato and Tui have been sunk for recreational divers. For the latte set there are four cafes nearby. This rural camp is five minutes walk to the beach, dive shop and the village shops. 60 powered sites and 30 for tents. There is a trampoline for the children, which has enclosed sides for safety. A wonderful kitchen has a large island bench, and good facilities and equipment. Adjacent is a dining area and TV room with comfortable furniture and a fireplace. Just outside is a BBQ area. Generous ablutions include a disability suite for both sexes and a 50 cent metered shower system. There is a special dive gear drying area. Grant and Denise are your hosts. All sites are $17 per night per person. Seasonal rates apply.

Located on Waipoua River Road 1km from State Highway 12 in the heart of the Waipoua Forest. A good base from which to explore the forests of Northland,
with walking and tramping tracks aplenty. The campground is at the forests
visitors centre, near the Waipoua River, where you can make your booking.
Facilities include hot and cold showers, toilets and a communal cookhouse with
a refrigerator if required, plus a laundry tub, and token operated machines
available. Enjoy the evening chorus provided by the resident kiwi population and view Waipoua Historic Kauri photo display. No pets or fires please. Te Roroa is looking after this interesting camp. Approximatly 80 camp sites.
Adults, $15 per night. Children (5 to17yrs) $7.50 per night, preschool (under
4yrs) free. Discounted guided night walks for campground patrons.

DESCRIPTION:

Only 12 sites but they are large and level and a little different. Each site has
a light (your own switch), a clothes line, tap, waste water drain and rubbish tin,
along with its own concrete path. A sheltered, tidal estuary is just through
the fence and over the dunes to a surf beach. Top marks for housekeeping.
Facilities open off a roofed deck. The kitchen has a full stove and hotplates,
fridge/freezer and a chest freezer. Take your meal outside to the picnic tables.
The ablutions are well-lined with 2 good metered shower cubicles for each
sex and a lavish hot water supply. There is a nice amenities block with laundry,
hot and cold washing machines and dryer. You will find free dinghies and two
free BBQ’s for campers. In a separate area, a car or boat wash and dump
point are available. A decent sized games room is provided. An attractive
country setting with plenty of well-groomed sites. No dogs here please. Your
hosts are Paul and Sharleen Voss. All sites are $38 to $ 43 for two people.

DESCRIPTION:

The entrance to Whananaki North Holiday Park is just before the local general store. This shop is well stocked, plus you can get dive tank fills. The level camp grounds extend to a safe harbour estuary at the back and also have a rural outlook. The trees and gardens offer shady spots. The modern communal building houses a roomy kitchen with small appliances for cooking and a fridge and freezer. Outside there is a gas BBQ with pizza oven and smoker with plenty of dining room under the pergola. You may be tempted to cool off in the swimming pool. The roomy ablutions are very clean with metered showers, liquid soap and hand dryers The laundry has an automatic washers and dryers. There are 28 power sites and 16 non powered sites, all with taps, and plenty of room for tents. Pet friendly by arrangement. Take a walk on the longest footbridge in the southern hemisphere from here to Whananaki South. The Camp is on the Te Araroa walk trail. Your welcoming hosts are Matthew and Tracy. Sites are $15 per person, non-powered and $18 per person powered.

DESCRIPTION:

Only in use for campers in the school holidays and weekends, you’ll find level
sites and some shady trees here. There is excellent child safe play equipment
for children and use of a tennis court. The harbour estuary is easily accessible.
There are no sites with power and no hot water but stalls for solar showers.
Facilities are limited to toilets and hand basins. There is a tennis court available
for a game, payment by a donation. No smoking and no dogs please. Check
availability at Xmas. Tent sites are $10 per person, children $5 up to 15 years.

Preschoolers are free.
