Huntly Camping Grounds, 5 Taihua St, Huntly, 3700, Waikato, North Island

370 Kawhia Road, Oparau, New Zealand, Waikato, North Island

DESCRIPTION:

A welcoming roadhouse where you can stop overnight for FREE, 13 km east of Kawhia on the main road. Bill your friendly host, is happy for campervans and backpacking tenters to set up in the basic, grassy camping area behind the complex. You can't see it from the road, but the elevated campsite overlooks the pretty Oparau River mouth to the rear. There's no kitchen or shower facilities but you can access the public toilets in the roadhouse. A free dump station too. Stock up in the general store (which has absolutely everything including a lotto outlet and post office), or fill up at the petrol station. Take time out and dine in Brenda's cafe or sample their special KFC (Kawhia Fried Chicken) and homemade pies. Certainly worth calling or a one-stop-shop-overnight-spot! Oh! Yes, they will fill your gas bottle. A great place and great service.
