A large motel, backpackers and camping complex, there are twelve powered sites, all beautifully manicured grass stands divided by new plantings. In a well sheltered tent area there is a large, sparkling, modern kitchen/dining that has full stoves, hobs, all appliances, cooking and eating utensils. The ablutions are spotless with large tiled showers including a disability unit. The laundry has automatic machines and internet access is available, keep your belongings safe in the lockable cupboards. Enjoy a game of mini golf or feed the animals, play table tennis or have a spa and sauna, and if you want to eat out there will soon be a caf_ on site. This is a great area for fishing, tramping _ the Hump Ridge Track is well known. Swim in the river or at the beaches close by or maybe take a jet boat ride. In charge is Murray Dowling and the camp is managed by Karl. Power sites $38 for two and tents $18 for one.

DESCRIPTION:

On the way to the very bottom of the South Island, you may want to stop for a night at this lovely rural retreat. With only a couple of powered sites, and only a few tent sites, the emphasis is on making sure people have a good stay. You will get a farmstay experience, at backpacker prices, watch the shearing, feed the calves, or go for a walk on the hills. Come back to lovely hot showers in modern bathrooms, a large lounge and kitchen area that is up-to-date and has a few games, books, and puzzles for your enjoyment. Laundry facilities are by honesty box, there are picnic tables and an outside BBQ as well. Your hosts are Justine and Andrew, and their three lovely girls who run out to welcome you. $15 for one, $30 for two, any extras at $10 each.

DESCRIPTION:

A campground that is spread out over three tiers, there is plenty of room
for tents and only 5m walk from the ferry. There are all the normal facilities
needed including a large communal area with kitchen, dining and lounge area
(where there is a TV), BBQ area, and laundry. Shared facilities such as toilets
and showers are available for everyone, as is a booking centre for the local
activities and wireless internet. Many free extras such as wifi voucher on
check-in, DVDs, books, jigsaws, board games and local phone calls (including
Invercargill). Borrow the guitar for a sing a long, or a bedroll for camping. Your
friendly host is Vicki, tent sites are $20 for one adult, children aged 6 to13 years are $15, under 5 are free.

DESCRIPTION:

A small camp ground with an interesting way around providing toilets… there
is one for each site! With each hard sealed camp spot having trees between
them, there is good shade as well as privacy from your neighbours.. Well-kept
grounds and there is a small laundry on site, and the lodge kitchen is available
for those in tents at an extra charge. Stop at the fly fishing shop on the main
road, enjoy the cafes, bike trails and the great brown trout fishing at the door.
Powered site $18 for one, $25 for two, and $5 for any extras. Unpowered
tent sites are $15 per person. Pets are welcome but self-contained vehicles
only from May to September please.

DESCRIPTION:

You are in the heart of farm country in this council owned camp, which is
closed in winter from May to September. Mainly populated by the same
families returning year after year, you will need to book if you want to squeeze
in. There is a large, level grassed area with several trees and hedges. 64 sites
have power and there is an abundance of tent sites. Amongst the amenities
is a useful kitchen (which doubles as a dining and library facility) with two full
stoves, microwaves, pots, utensils and fridge/freezers. The ablutions have been
newly refurbished and there are automatic machines and dryer in the laundry.
This area is popular for fishing and golfing and there is a good swimming hole
in the nearby river. No dogs please, your friendly hosts are Graeme and Kaye.
All sites are $12.50 per adult, $6 for children.

DESCRIPTION:

This camp is on the outskirts of Winton and edges the Winton Golf Course.
There are endless tent sites and six power sites on grass/gravel stands, campers may use the club facilities which include lovely old fashioned but clean toilets, a shower, but no kitchen. There is, however, a washing machine. If the caretaker isn’t around, there is an honesty box for fees, $20 powered, $15 unpowered per site per night. Showers are available for $2.

DESCRIPTION:

Although this is in pine tree country, the camp is on an open paddock with
only an occasional tree for shade. Badly in need of an upgrade, It is a quiet
rural situation with 12 power sites and plenty of room for tents. There is a
homely kitchen with a mini dining area and all appliances, plus cooking and
eating utensils. The few showers are roomy and cost $2, and a small laundry
houses an auto washing machine. The toilets (a public facility) are separate and
not very clean. There are two adjacent hard tennis courts and a bowling green,
with a golf course nearby. Lynley Wright is the caretaker. Tent sites are $8 per
person or with power they are $12 per person, children under 13 years are
$6. Dogs permitted, must be on a lead at all times.
