DESCRIPTION:

This attractive campground is set in an old gold mining area full of exploration
opportunities. The Nelson Creek village includes a store, hotel and pottery
shop on a terrace immediately above the camping and recreation area. The
campground is next to the creek, where you can go gold panning and has
numerous sheltered campsites.  You will find clean toilets, children's play
equipment, including a flying fox, BBQs, picnic tables, running water and a
swimming hole. A track leads through a tunnel and over a swing bridge to a
number of interesting short bush walks. Worth seeing as it has been intensively
mined with tunnels, tailraces and hand-stacked tailings. A wheelchair accessible
track is easily reached by road and a gold-panning area is signposted.  Cost is $7 per adult a night, Child 0-16 years $3; $18 per family (up to 4 children).

The hotel over the road has showers available.

Across the dunes from the beach, and nestled cosily amongst some trees,
is this cute little community run camp. The sites are grassed and there are
basic showers and toilets, including a paraplegic toilet. A $1 coin will buy you
four minutes of showering, but if you want to do any washing you will have  to do it by hand… and use the wringer over the concrete twin tub! Yes, there are still camps like this in New Zealand. There is a purpose built lounge and
dining room that has a fridge, sink and card phone, and although it is an open
door building, it is well sheltered inside. An electric barbecue is available at $2
for 20 minutes and the camp offers fresh water, fire places, picnic tables and
rubbish collection. Dogs are allowed as long as they are under strict control
at all times. The local community warns you to take care when swimming, as
there are dangerous currents. Camp fees are $12.50 per adult with children
free. Maximum stay is 10 days. Contact them for family rates or large groups

Listen to the sound of the surf and sea pounding on the Pancake Rocks. Sealed roads and contoured land, gives privacy and shelter to this lovely large coastal camp which appears to be well drained, even in winter. There is a fully equipped electric kitchen, and a gas one available for large groups. Between them is the dining/social room. An alternative is the al fresco covered dining area off these rooms. The ablutions are roomy, tiled and immaculate with a good disability suite. There is a laundry and a sometimes much needed drying room. Walking distance to the local pub, with shopping just up the road, and eating places nearby. Lots to see and do, this is a great base to explore the spectacular West Coast, learn to surf, or try out a paddleboard. No pets please. Your friendly, helpful hosts are Craig and Sue. Tent sites are $17 per adult, and $8 for children, powered are $20 for adults and $9 for the kids.

DESCRIPTION:

What a jewel of a place this is! From the secluded bays nestled in amongst the rain forest, to the large dining tables made out of recycled wood from the forest around. Each site is on gravel stands, with its own picnic table, no tenting here unfortunately. The kitchens are all new, the interiors have been designed by an expert and include all amenities. In the living/lounge area, you can watch Sky or just hang out on the comfy couches, while just outside is a covered area that includes BBQs and outside seating so you can watch the children in the play area. The bathrooms/showers/toilets are unisex and wheelchair friendly, and a disability suite is available. There is a dump station on site and the laundries have good washing machines and dryers, and of course all the facilities are immaculate. After you have a soak in the huge hot tub available for guests, head on over to the bar that opens at 4.30. Pamper yourself by having a spa and sauna, or have a meal at the caf_ that turns into a restaurant at night. Clear your email, buy a snack, or book a scenic flight, all available in the reception area. Oscar is your very friendly host. All sites are powered and are $44 for two , children aged four to 16 years are $13.50, and under three are free.

DESCRIPTION:

Rapahoe Beach Holiday Park is a favourite place for groups and families (including your furry friends) to spend your holidays and experience camping the old school way, literally in the grounds of an old 1930s school! Located just 11km north of Greymouth, this quiet, secluded location immediately on the beachfront offers a range of facilities and activities for your comfort and relaxation – all while being central to a range of popular West Coast tourist attractions. Favourite pastimes for visitors include swimming in the “school pool” or on the beach, gemstone hunting, fishing, observing the local seal colony at Point Elizabeth, checking out the amazing geological papa rock and limestone features on the rugged northern point, or whitebait fishing on the river nearby. Maybe you would just like to simply read a book from our library or teach the kids a few of the old school board games? There’s something for everyone.

Motorhome and caravan sites (powered or non-powered), as well as tent sites available. Due to renovations by the new management, there are limited cabins and caravans for hire. These will be added to as the grounds are further developed.

DESCRIPTION:

In an old gold mining town steeped in history, this riverside camp has a lovely
sheltered aspect with a perimeter of tall fir trees.  The sites are level with plenty
of room and are well kept, parks on grass or gravel. A large clean kitchen (with
a wood burner) has an entry at each end and is complete with two full stoves,
microwaves, hot plates and a fridge/freezer. The well-maintained ablutions have
large showers with dressing rooms, a children’s bath and a disability suite, while
the laundry provides autmatic washers and dryers.  A great area for fishing
we are told, with many walks and mountain bike tracks to enjoy in the area,
the camp is at the back of the Reefton shops and restaurants so close to
everything. A state-of-the-art roller park is next door, as is the swimming pool,
or take a stroll in the bushy Victoria Park. Your host is Shane. Tent sites $25 for
two, power sites $28 for two, or $20 for one adult. Extra adults are from $1,
and school groups by arrangement.
