Accessible by road and from the Queen Charlotte Track, this camp is on the
waters edge with a stunning view. A large flat area is surrounded by native
bush, with some terraced areas. There are excellent clean toilets and hot
water showers and a disability suite. A kitchen with all facilities, a laundry and
drying room are here. Ideal for large groups. Price per adult is $16, child $10.

Formerly known as the Hampden Beach Camp Ground.

In the settlement of Hampden, just south of Moeraki, is this beach and river
side camping ground. There are plenty of sites to choose from, and in the
busy season additional sites across the road are opened. The grounds are
pleasant with some shady trees with a fully equipped kitchen that features
visitor comments as wallpaper. Wireless internet and TV are available in the newly built lounge area, and a trampoline, outdoor games, bikes and kayak hire will keep the children busy. Nearby is a small children’s playground, tennis court and a skate park, this is great for family camping holidays. An ablution block with toilets and showers and a separate toilet block are provided, a large disability suite is available, and small children are not neglected here with a highchair and a child’s hub. There is a laundry with automatic equipment and everything has been recently painted and is clean and tidy. Free pick up from the bus stop at Hampden, and you might like to try the famous fish and chips at Hampden. Your hosts are Alex and Mel.

This is a pretty camp on the edge of a fishing harbour in Moeraki Village where fishing boats bobbing lazily in the bay present a picture postcard view. There are a number of camping pockets, many overlooking the bay, set on terraced sections. Brand new toilets and showers have a disabled suite, and everything is clean and tidy. The kitchen has everything you need, including an outside eating area and BBQ, and there is a TV room available. Take time to inspect the Moeraki Boulders and the nearby seal colony or visit the penguin hospital, this may be the place to land that blue cod. There are 30 sites with power plus 27 tent sites, and dogs are welcome on a lead. Your hosts are Kristina and Robbie Mitchell.

Number of tent sites - 50 This is a peaceful place beside a small lake. Go boating, swimming, fishing or canoeing on the lake. Walk or mountainbike from Moke Lake to Lake Dispute (2 hr walk). A cooking shelter is provided. Dogs are not allowed on this campsite.

An oldie but a goodie as the saying goes. Stop in at the office on the way down to the domain camp, you will pass it on your way in to this spot on the edge of the sea, and at the heart of the Mokihinui community. With plenty of level land, either on the sports field or beside the beach, this camp has a tavern near the entrance and the sea over the bank at the back where there is excellent fishing, and whitebaiting in the river. Some old trees make this a lovely picnic area. Around the playing field are 21 sites, which have power and taps, the main amenities are a central kitchen with three full stoves, fridge, tables and chairs. The main ablution block has clean tiled showers and toilets, with another block of toilets available in the busy season, and there are automatic machines in the laundry. Added extras include a herb garden and book exchange, and your friendly hosts, Joan and Basil, invite you to participate in the yearly Xmas fishing competition, or come and put your torpedo out at any time. Tent sites from $8 for one and $2 for children under 12 years. Power sites from $20 for two and $2 for children under 12 years.

You can camp near the original cobb homestead built in 1885 close to the Molesworth Farm Park boundary.

Drive or cycle along the road and fish in the river.

Walking and tramping

The Momorangi Bay camp is found in picturesque Queen Charlotte Sound, just
25 minutes drive from Picton. Its sheltered location at the top of Grove Arm is
great for boating, swimming, walking and picnicking. It is accessible by a sealed
road from Picton and Blenheim, or turn off on to Queen Charlotte Drive if
travelling from Nelson. No pets please. New clean amenities (including some
for disabled people). Lovely new beach front kitchen/laundry/showers block.
The kitchen, although small is clean and has all amenities. 80 power and 80
tent sites are on sheltered terraces with attractive picnic tables. A boat ramp
is available across the road. The Manager is available in the shop throughout
the summer months, and most days during the winter. Price for all sites is $15
per adult, child $7.50.

This local Memorial Park looks out over pleasant grounds, but has a lot of
permanent occupants so bookings are essential. There is a small area for
campers with just 18 powered sites on metal/sealed paving. The kitchen is
basic, but has everything you need, the ablutions are clean and tidy and have
individual LPG water heating. There is a free laundry with automatic washer,
dryer and a freezer, and showers are free too. The council swimming pool is in the park next door, and your on-site host is Tom Bell.

Reach this beachside campsite on the Abel Tasman Coast Track by private boat. There is no drive-in or walk-in access.

A neat camp, complete with a small animal park where you can get acquainted
with the tame animals. Based out in the country amongst rural farmland,
there are rolling hills behind and park like settings in front. With 50 powered sites and numerous tent sites, there is plenty of space. and good trout fishing
rivers nearby. The clean kitchen/dining has all appliances, cooking and eating utensils and a TV, and the ablutions are supplied with piping hot showers, as well as having plenty of toilets. The laundry has automatic equipment, there is
free wifi and the camp is pet friendly. Your hosts are Colleen, Stuart and the
dog Andrew.

Here is a lovely environment for the comfort of campers with grounds that have smooth lawns and a myriad of mature trees. There are 180 sites, most with power, and an amenity block gives the camp some great facilities, all in spotlessorder. The kitchen with all facilities opens to a covered BBQ area with seating where you can watch the children on the jumping pillow. There is a TV lounge with internet and excellent tiled ablutions plus an automatic laundry. A spa pool is available and a heated swimming pool and sun lounging area is close to the adventure playground. A dump point is provided and storage is available for vehicles and luggage. This camp is close to the shopping and services of Motueka. Pets are welcome by arrangement excluding December, January and early February. Your host is John Taite.

Motunau is a lovely beachside settlement, with a river opening to the sea. Not
right on the beach but at the river mouth, this camping area has pleasant open
areas with shady trees. Only flush toilets and water here, just turn up and put
your payment in the honesty box if no one is around as there are no bookings.
$10 per site per night (subject to change by the MBRA) .

Sited in the attractive domain gardens, there are many trees for shelter and picnic tables. Sturdy clean toilets and metered showers (two 50c coins for 4 minutes) are available. A basic kitchen, dining and lounge area has a stove, hot water, fridge/freezer and auto washing machine, all recently upgraded due to snow damage. A dump point is available, and an adventure tower and tennis courts are nearby. A great place to relax or enjoy the Mt. Somers walkway, explore the historic coalmines, fish, swim or water ski in the nearby lakes, or have a drink at the pub across the road. The friendly off site caretaker is Wendy Cullen.

Although this is some 50km from Queenstown, the sealed road takes in some
great alpine scenery. The park is at the head of Lake Wakatipu with an outlook to
the majestic Southern Alps, it is virtually the entrance to Fiordland. Undergoing
a huge redevelopment, the camp is currently offering limited camping facilities,
but even these sound pretty good. There are 34 sites, a laundry, kitchen, showers
and a children’s playground. Your host is Andrew and a site will cost you $30 for
two, extras $15 each. This camp will be closed from 28 March until November

A quiet campsite on the eastern flank of the Hunter Hills. 3.5 km forest walk from camp to podocarp forest remnant.

On attractive grounds with 27 powered and level sites, this camp has well-kept amenities including a cosy kitchen with full cooking facilities, including herbs for your use. Clean modern ablutions, with a disability toilet and free showers, and an automatic washer and dryer is available in the laundry. The recreation room has a pot belly stove and space to watch TV, have a game of pool for a small charge, or a game of table tennis or table hockey. Located 8km north of Murchison, this beautifully landscaped camp borders
the Buller river. All hard stands with good sized sites for buses and a level
grassed camping area for tents down by the river where you will not be
crowded. A modern central facilities block has a wraparound veranda for
outside seating, and includes a kitchen and dining area with TV, hob, microwave
cooking, all utensils and cutlery. The ablutions have good showers and toilets
with a disability/family suite and a laundry with auto machines. All amenities
are modern, clean and tidy, there are BBQs here and a dump point too for
quests only. Enjoy a dip in the river or try your hand at fishing, rafting, kayaking
or explore the bike trails and walking tracks in the area. Relax and have a
game of petanque or pavement draughts, there is also a chip and putt course,
volleyball, and croquet available. Your host is Karen Steadman, who also
provides seasonal veges and free range eggs from the office.

What a wonderful family holiday park this one is. With campsites
hidden in the larches, there are 48 powered sites and innumerable tent
sites. The renovated kitchen/living room has double glazing, a cosy
log burner for the winter months, and all the amenities needed. During
busy times, a secondary kitchen is also available. Laundry and drying
facilities and the roomy ablutions are bright and clean. Make sure you
bring your bikes, as there are extensive mountain bike trails all
around the camp, as well as an adventure playground and a swimming
dam, in the summer months, within metres of the edge of the park. The
historic gold-mining town of Naseby has many attractions such as year
round curling, and great pubs and a cafe, and It is also not far to
the Central Otago Rail Trail. The camp is open all year round, dogs

If your priorities are comfort, easy parking and squeaky-clean facilities, you will find them here. the closest camping ground to the city, the sites are in private bays with gravel, and taps are plentiful. Each van spot has a small lawn and are separated by beautiful trees that overhand the sites. The small grassed area for tents is well landscaped, but book ahead if you have a large tent. A good kitchen has all appliances with an adjacent outside dining area and BBQ. A card phone, comfortable TV room with Sky and internet area are here for your enjoyment. The excellent ablutions have good free showers and a complete disability/family suite is also available. The laundry has plenty of equipment including auto washers, dryers and iron. This attractive campground is set in an old gold mining area full of exploration opportunities. The Nelson Creek village includes a store, hotel and pottery shop on a terrace immediately above the camping and recreation area. The campground is next to the creek, where you can go gold panning and has numerous sheltered campsites.  You will find clean toilets, children's play equipment, including a flying fox, BBQs, picnic tables, running water and a swimming hole. A track leads through a tunnel and over a swing bridge to a number of interesting short bush walks. Worth seeing as it has been intensively mined with tunnels, tailraces and hand-stacked tailings. A wheelchair accessible track is easily reached by road and a gold-panning area is signposted.

Nelson Lakes National Park (established in 1956) is situated in the north of New Zealand's South Island. This park protects 102,000 hectares of the northern most Southern Alps. The park offers tranquil beech forest, craggy mountains, clear streams and lakes both big and small. The gateway to the park is St Arnaud, a 1-2 hour drive from Nelson or Blenheim.

A beautiful beach camp in a natural setting, with native trees, colourful buildings,
and many song birds. A five minute walk takes you to the residence of the
sea lions who are at home all year round. The camp has sparkling amenities

Laid out in a horseshoe are over 60 sites, this complex Is bordered with trees
and manicured to perfection. Most campervan parking Is on gravel stands,
and there are sites for tents below the trees. Across the bridge is a the lovely
public garden with children’s play area next door. Dual spotless amenities have
been recently upgraded and provide two kitchens with full stoves, plus hob
cooking and microwave. There is also a new covered BBQ area with outdoor
fire.  Internet kiosk and wifi are both available, as is a dump station. The toilet
facilities include a full disability suite and are spotless and modern, while the
automatic laundry equipment is plentiful. The playground comes with an
enclosed trampoline and a kangaroo jumper. Full booking services to see the
blue and yellow penguins are offered, as are free tours. From December to
March you can enjoy the live story of Oamaru's history. Your hosts are Shayne

Visit this beachside campsite on the Tinline to Anchorage section of the Abel Tasman Coast Track.

If you want a true kiwi camping experience, you will get it here at this sprawling
campground that boasts one of the best beaches on the peninsula and offers
safe, family-friendly camping in a beach front setting. There are two excellent
amenity blocks each containing a kitchen, toilets, washing facilities and coin
operated showers, as well as laundry facilities. Plenty for children to do when
they are finished swimming - flying foxes, a climbing frame, swings, slide and a
cycle track. Visit the highly rated Maori and Colonial Museum while you are
here or make use of the community tennis courts., there is a store located
in the village for your convenience and it's open seven days in peak season.
Definitely no dogs and no fires, there is a dump station available but you will
need to boil any water you use. Your friendly hosts are Darren and Michelle
Wallis Hartley. All sites are unpowered and charges are $12 per adult, $6 per
child (5 to15 years) and under 5 year olds are free.

Across the dunes from the beach, and nestled cosily amongst some trees,
is this cute little community run camp. The sites are grassed and there are
basic showers and toilets, including a paraplegic toilet. A $1 coin will buy you
four minutes of showering, but if you want to do any washing you will have  to do it by hand… and use the wringer over the concrete twin tub! Yes, there are still camps like this in New Zealand. There is a purpose built lounge and
dining room that has a fridge, sink and card phone, and although it is an open
door building, it is well sheltered inside. An electric barbecue is available at $2
for 20 minutes and the camp offers fresh water, fire places, picnic tables and
rubbish collection. Dogs are allowed as long as they are under strict control
at all times. The local community warns you to take care when swimming, as
there are dangerous currents. Camp fees are $12.50 per adult with children

Okiwi Bay Holiday Park and Lodge is not right on the beach, but there is a boat ramp about 400 metres away. The grounds are neat and landscaped with 12 level sites, all have power and water and lovely sheltered trees. A shop is available with a good range of everyday supplies, and you can get your dive bottles filled, petrol or diesel and fill LPG bottles here. An immaculate kitchen has two full gas stoves and all other amenities, plus a BBQ, as well as a covered dining area outside. The ablutions are well designed, light and airy, with hand basins in the free shower and toilet cubicles plus a disability suite. Automatic machines are provided in the laundry, a phone is on-site and free wifi is available. So many things to do such as fishing, diving and scalloping, charter a boat, or take a guided trip. Kayaks and mountain bikes can be hired locally, there is a dump station and fish filleting bay provided. This is a pet friendly camp and your friendly hosts are Pam and Ian Montgomery. Both powered and unpowered sites are $20 per day for an adult, children 12 years and under $12.50, two years and under are free. Tent RCD cords are available for hire at $6 per day.

Located in Marahau one hour from Nelson and at the southern end of the Abel Tasman National Park. Something special in rural camping here as you soak up the peaceful environment of this delightful setting. Stroll through native bush, swim in the fresh water swimming holes, or wander through to the golden sand beaches. From the leafy bowers, to the large sites in the Bull Paddock, this is a place to make your escape. Divided into two camping area, both have large dividing trees and shrubs. Near the shop and office, is a domestic-size service block, great for large groups, and secure parking is provided across the road for those on expeditions. Further down the lane are 35 large private power sites, individually hedged, with flowering borders and a central banquet-size eating pavilion. There is a ranch-style unisex ablution block that includes a disability toilet, all in spotless condition. The kitchen has gas hobs, refrigerators, freezers, a microwave oven and filtered water, as well as BBQ areas located by the kitchens. An automatic washer and a dryer are in the laundry alcove and internet facilities are available. Resident livestock include friendly cats, dogs, llamas, and the occasional inquisitive cow. Only a 400m walk to the entrance of the Abel Tasman National Park, and not much further the beautiful water front. The level, well-groomed grounds have plenty of shady trees and a lazy meandering stream. There are 94 power sites and 80 for tents. The main amenities are at one end of the extensive grounds. This campsite is set in a remnant podocarp forest. The start of the Wakamarina tramping track is 8 km away.

Walk-in or boat-in to this beachside campsite on the Mosquito Bay to Awaroa section of the Abel Tasman Coast Track. There is no drive on access.

A quiet and scenic spot for a quick pit stop or an overnight stay. The area is marked by a gravel strip on the roadside, with 8 designated spaces available. The location is adjacent to the Carluke Domain Hall, which offers clean and well-maintained toilets (24 Hours). The spot is particularly suitable for those planning to tackle the French Pass.

Road access is from Tripp Settlement Road, then on to Yates Road. The
campsite is set in 80ha of native bush, on the low foothills between Yates
Road and Station Stream and opposite the Glenburn Youth Camp. There is a relatively easy forest walk of about three hours, partly along the line of an old bush tramway and passing through several quite distinct forest types. The high point gives good views out across surrounding countryside. The campsite is close to the Orari River, which has good fishing. There is usually a water supply (but not for drinking), toilets, rubbish collection, picnic tables and barbecues.
No other fires please. Dogs are not permitted. Price per adult is $6.10 for a
site with an extra $2.50 for power per site.

Just off the main highway you will find this oldie but a goodie. With a dairy
at the front entrance, and a takeaway food outlet alongside, you won’t have
to worry about running out of anything. Mostly return families, there are 50
sites with power and 15 for tents. The grassed camping ground is dotted with
trees and is situated to the rear of a large historic lodge. The amenities consist
of a small kitchen, old but with all the appliances you will need, ablutions and
a laundry with automatic machines. Campers can use the lodge facilities and share the communal lounge with its open file.  The swimming pool is totally enclosed for all-weather use and a dump station is on site. Your hosts are Brent
and Kirsty Cowles. Tents are $16 per person and power sites $18 per person.

Stop in at the tavern to check in on the way down to this \'real experience\' awarding winning reserve camping spot. The track beside the pub will take you down to the open area beside the river. A large flat area on the right, where the combined toilet and shower cubicles are placed, no trouble here for large vehicles. To the left you will find more camp spots beside the river with picnic tables, a shelter and shady trees. If you want power, there are two powered sites down by the river, and another two up by the tavern. Check out the swimming hole, do some fishing or rafting, or soak up the friendly atmosphere up at the tavern with your friendly hosts John and Kim Siu. Tent sites $10 per person, campervans with no power are $20 for two. Powered sites are $25 for two. Children under 12 are $5.

There is no power but toilets and fresh water are available.

Pakawau Beach Park Camp is located a 35 minute drive from Takaka, these beachside sites are protected from the onshore wind by borders of shrubs and trees without blocking the gorgeous view. There are more sites in the hedge bordered avenues back from the beach as well, with the odd BBQ table scattered around. The kitchen has a gas hob, microwave, fridges and a freezer, while the dining area is housed in a separate room with BBQ picnic tables. The well used ablutions are roomy and clean, with spacious cubicles for the showers and a disability suite is available.
The laundry has automatic washers and dryer, all token operated. A children’s play area is close to the main amenities block and there is a boat ramp for campers to use, but a 4WD is required. Across the road is a licensed café restaurant with a garden bar and you can use the tennis court situated there. The Gateway to Westhaven Inlet is a magical place to go fishing, bird watching,  or a walk to the Kaihoka lakes. It is only a 10 to15 minute drive to the Farewell Spit, Puponga Farm Park walks and the stunning Wharariki Beach.

This campground is closed from May to mid-October each year. During this period the adjoining Clarke Flat is opened as a standard campsite.

A stunningly beautiful spot amongst mature native forest, since last century Pelorus Bridge has been a popular stopover point for travellers between Marlborough and Nelson. Set over two camping areas, the main one being Kahikatea Flat, a delightful enclave with lawn tent sites, surrounded by native bush and the Pelorus River on one side. A new building houses kitchen and dining, shower and full laundry facilities, while the large deck provides delightful outside dining. The office and cafe are both at this site so you will need to check in here. On the opposite side of the river, down Mangatapu Road, is the second camping spot where there are 14 power sites, toilets and hot showers. No pets at either camp please. These busy and attractive camps are right next to the beautiful Pelorus River, great for swimming, trout fishing and boating.
