Pakawau Beach Park Camp is located a 35 minute drive from Takaka, these beachside sites are protected from the onshore wind by borders of shrubs and trees without blocking the gorgeous view. There are more sites in the hedge bordered avenues back from the beach as well, with the odd BBQ table scattered around. The kitchen has a gas hob, microwave, fridges and a freezer, while the dining area is housed in a separate room with BBQ picnic tables. The well used ablutions are roomy and clean, with spacious cubicles for the showers and a disability suite is available.
The laundry has automatic washers and dryer, all token operated. A children’s play area is close to the main amenities block and there is a boat ramp for campers to use, but a 4WD is required. The Gateway to Westhaven Inlet is a magical place to go fishing, bird watching, or a walk to the Kaihoka lakes. It is only a 10 to15 minute drive to the Farewell Spit, Puponga Farm Park walks and the stunning Wharariki Beach.
