Turn the corner into Pahi Road to find the entrance. Paparoa is a small community with shopping and services. The camp offers 20 power sites with taps. The lawn is level and easy for tenters. A very smart new laundry has a comfy couch to relax while the washing finishes. The amenities include a good disability suite and roomy but limited ablutions, (the showers are free). A multi-purpose room has a basic kitchen with a full stove and microwave. Outside is a covered dining area, this is adjacent. to the kitchen. Internet is available, and a dump station and car wash. Aquatic Park Holiday Camp is in the thermal heart of the Helensville district, northwest of Auckland. Parakai is well known for its many warm mineral swimming pools and water slide. The camping ground is adjacent, but quite
separate from the pools. It has a nice playground for children. Sites are level and open with big trees around the perimeter of the camp. Picnic tables and some hard stands for vans are provided.  A clean kitchen has microwave (there is no dining space), but plenty of preparation benches, a stove, hot plates and a fridge. The laundry facilities are excellent. The ablutions have a modest number of good hot showers and toilet facilities, however there is another block near the camp entrance. A good number of permanents are in residence, but there is plenty of space for casual campers. There is a dump station here. A superette, family tavern and takeaway are within a stones throw of the camp. Vehicle sites are non-powered and the campground does not have tent sites.

A beautiful motel complex, just across the road from the shopping centre and
off SH1, is home to 22 grass mobile home sites with large mature trees. The
camp amenities are light and bright with a micro-laundry and lounge. There is
plenty to do here with a tennis court, swimming pool, spa and sauna, as well
as a lovely covered BBQ area close to the pool. The Tongariro River with its
abundance of trout is close by, and your catch can be taken care of in the fsh
room and smokehouse. Wif is provided as well as a dump station, and an
on-site licensed restaurant and bar is open at 6pm for your dining pleasure .

This small, intimate camp, sometimes known as Carlyle Beach Motor Camp, is
situated on picturesque Mana Bay and offers a relaxed and affordable family
holiday in a beautiful spot. Overlooking the mouth of the Patea River, the
camp is pleasantly sheltered. The nearby beach reserve offers safe swimming,
BBQ shelters, picnic tables and a small playground . The Patea Golf Course
is just up the road. The kitchen has modern appliances, some cookware and
utensils and a TV. The ablutions are basic but clean and look like they have
been upgraded recently. The small laundry has an auto washer and a dump
point is provided. The camp is in the care of Glynis and Erin. Tent sites are
$12.50 per person and the 23 powered sites, $15 per person.

Starting at the end of Ball Road – just North of Patea. The road is unsealed and not for the faint hearted, but you will be rewarded by the atmosphere of this special place.  Excellent bushwalks, hot showers, boat ramp for many water activities. NZ’s longest manmade lake. Fee: $5 per site per night (based on a family of 4).

New Zealand's most famous west coast surf beach, Piha, is tucked on the coastal fringes of the Waitakere Ranges and reached by a spectacular (but windy!) scenic drive. The domain camp is situated on a level grassy area, with some dividing hedges and trees. The camp is bounded by the imposing Lion Rock on its seaward side, with the remainder encircled by playing fields, a tennis court and a lagoon for the children (who also have a safe adventure playground). The ablution block has swipe-card access for hot showers. with an outdoor cold-water shower and toilets (including disabled access) open to the public. There is a camp kitchen and BBQ cook-up area and the local store, post office and pay phone are opposite the camp. This relaxed, family camping environment offers prime surfing and fishing. Under a handful of norfolk pines and palms, 8km west of Matata, is a beachfront
strip camping ground with views across a white sandy beach. Take care on
the railway crossing to this self-registration campsite where a maximum stay
of two weeks is permitted. The camp is well supplied with taps and rubbish
bins, but has no powered sites. There are two blocks of ablutions, with four
unroofed, metered solar showers and flush toilets, all in fair condition. Two
outdoor tubs are provided for your laundry. Access gate closed each night
10pm and opens at 7am. Camping here will cost you $16 per night for two
adults and 2 children Extra adults $6, children $2. Under 5 years old free.
Dogs must be on a leash. Maximum stay is 14 consecutive days.

More like a mini village than a camping ground, this 34-acre park rambles along the hills above the northern end of Red Beach. There are narrow winding streets, individually named, and clusters of own-your-own cottages with permanently leased sites. Mature trees shelter the attractive communal grassed area near the park entrance which has an excellent children_s playground and a small stage where live bands play and budding stars can practice. Alongside is a recreation hall with extra facilities. There are six small amenities blocks with brand new dining facilities next to a kitchen. A good tenting area with a BBQ available. There is internet access and you can master the game of table tennis. Xmas and New Year entertainment is a feature. Dogs are not permitted. A 'Jacob's Ladder' gives direct access to the beach at the north end of the park and a footbridge provides access to Red Beach, a Life guard serviced beach at the southern end.

This easy-to-spot, stylish, modern cafe and motorhome park offers a pleasant
stopover on SHwy 39 - between Otorohanga and Ngaruawahia. Designed
with the larger motorhome in mind, the 8 spacious powered sites, on gravel
hardstand, have their own entrance to the rear of the cafÉ complex. There
are great views of Mount Pirongia from the landscaped grounds. The facilities
include 3 modern bathroom suites, a laundry and dump station. There’s no
kitchen but the Persimmon Tree Cafe is open 7 days a week from 9-4.30 pm) so there’s no

This campsite marks the mid-point of the Timber Trail and easy access to the Maramataha suspension bridge. Use the campsite as a base to explore the forest roads by car or mountain bike. Go hunting for red deer.

At the northern tip of the Peninsula, this campsite is at the waters edge next to a beach. At the eastern end of the campsite, the Muriwai Coastal Walk leads up the headland towards Wharekaiatua Pa and along the coast, with stunning coastal views.

Within easy reach of Auckland and Hamilton, turn off SHwy 1 at Pokeno and head for the coast. The scenic road follows alongside the Waikato River, finishing at Sunset Beach - which is popular for surfing. The camp is tucked in against the hills with level sites that are neatly mown, some amongst groups of trees. The location is sheltered, with easy access to the sand dunes and beach. A congenial BBQ area under the trees offers pleasant outdoor dining, or there is a fully equipped kitchen with TV, fridge/freezer, cookware, crockery and cutlery. Other amenities include ablutions with roomy, metered showers with a second block of toilets available. A large family room has Sky TV and a huge deck, plus there_s a playground, jumping pillow, internet access, fun bikes for hire to keep the kids entertained. Pouawa Beach is located approximately 18km from Gisborne city. There is good swimming, fishing and diving.

Another camping area runs about 2km along the seafront under similar conditions to Waihau Beach. You can camp among the undulating sand dunes. Bring everything, including a chemical toilet. Very popular and busy in summer.

This is a boat access only campsite on the Whanganui Journey. There is no drive on access.

67 km from Dargaville with 10km of good gravel road, Pouto Point is at the end of the road, but well worth the trip. Peaceful camping with 8 power points, on a flat grassed area that has commanding views over the outer Kaipara Harbour. Here you can watch the sunrise, go swimming, kayaking and fishing or, for landlubbers, hire a quad and explore the thousands of acres of sand dunes. Guided sand safaris are run from the camp. Facilities are in the restored 1879 kauri building, which was New Zealand’s first Custom House. A common room with tables, TV and stereo, plus a well-equipped clean kitchen that has everything you will need. There are very modern clean showers with hot water cost a $1 for 2 minutes. Laundry is $3 per load. New compositing flush toilets have recently been installed. No shopping, fuel or Eftpos here, so come prepared. A camp with a rustic atmosphere, it is set back from the beach in a rural location. The grounds are sheltered by mature trees and dotted with potted colour enhanced by the gardens and ‘creative’ touches of the many permanent ‘weekenders’ in residence. There is a BBQ area. The limited kitchen has a stove, hobs, microwave and fridge/freezer. The two wornout ablution blocks are basic and the showers are $1. There is an automatic laundry but no eftpos here.

Just off S Hwy 1 a short distance from the Far North Road, you will find camping above the road on terraced sites to maximize the views over Pukenui and the harbour. On the upper level there are about 40 sites, most with power, even in the high season there is usually a spot available. Many power sites have sewerage and water connections. Lots of private nooks-and-crannies have surrounding trees and hedges. There are excellent facilities on each level, which we found to be top notch in the cleanliness stakes including a kitchen with plenty of fridge space, a covered seating area is alongside a free BBQ, and freezer space may be hired. There is a coin operated laundry and free showers. Following the signs you will find farmyard animals including a goat, sheep, miniature ponies and a number of birds and fowls. You can feed and pet most of them, and getting a selfie with Rambo the sheep adds a point of difference to your stay. This camp is also pet friendly. Privacy in an unspoiled setting, but you will have to travel about 16km of
rough road to this self-registration campsite. Beside the eastern edge of
the Puketi Forest, it is close to some spectacular Kauri forest. The campsite is an ideal base from which to explore the forest, with its network of tracks and walks. There are wheelchair-access toilets, cold-water
taps, fireplaces and wood provided at the campsite.

Camp at the eastern edge of the forest, close to kauri trees. Look out for kiwi and short-tailed bats. This is an ideal base for day or overnight tramps.

Whangaruru camping ground is at Puriri Bay within the Whangaruru North Head Scenic Reserve, and 2km past Bland Bay (unsealed). The area is very attractive with sheltered waters. Enjoy walking, swimming, boating and other water sports. The campground faces west, with 90 sites overlooking the Whangaruru Harbour. Flat to gently sloping grounds have scattered native plantings. Four toilet blocks are provided plus one enclosed and one open-air cold shower. There is good filtered drinking water on site.

Putangirua Pinnacles Scenic Reserve is 13 km along Cape Palliser Road from the Lake Ferry turn-off, approximately one hours drive from Martinborough. The turn-off and campsite are 500 metres past the Department of Conservation Te Kopi Homestead and Cottage.

The campsite is located on State Highway 1 at the northern foot of Raetea
Forest (Mangamuka Gorge)18 km, south-east of Kaitaia along State Hwy 1 towards
Mangataiore. Look for ‘Raetea Reserve’ sign and follow the short gravel drive
beyond the stream ford. Just 20 free campsites set in one of the last remaining
lowland coastal forests. Look and listen for Kukupa or Kereru (native wood pigeon),
short tailed bats and parakeets. Kauri snails are present here too.

This little camp is centrally located to Pipiriki, the Mt Ruapehu ski fields and the Tongariro Crossing, with world-class fishing available 25km away at the Manganui-O-Te-Ao River. Tidy grounds have easy access through a glade of trees to a lower tenting area, where you can enjoy a romantic evening with the sound of the river nearby or take an evening glow-worm lit fairy trail stroll along the ten minute bush walk. The kitchen and dining block is wheelchair accessible and has ranch sliders opening to a large deck and outdoor BBQ area. The ablutions are free with a roomy and modern shower and a disabled access suite, as well as an older block at the other end of the camp. Catchpool Valley is the most popular entrance to Remutaka Forest Park. It includes Orongorongo Valley and its booked huts - bookings can be made via the online booking system or by contacting the Wellington Visitor Centre. Within Catchpool Valley are attractive short walks and access to longer bush tramps, a well maintained campground, and pleasant picnic and barbecue facilities. There is also a field centre, toilets, and a 24-hour emergency telephone. The Catchpool Valley is undergoing a transformation as pine trees planted by the former New Zealand Forest Service are removed to enable the return of native forest.

Turn west at the Coroglen Tavern, and head 3 km along a narrow unsealed road to this relaxed camp by the picturesque Waiwawa River. A bushland experience awaits you. All the amenities are comfortable with country-style housekeeping. A big kitchen features a wood-fired range as well as electric and microwave cooking. Adjacent is an inviting TV room. There are portacom toilet/shower suites and another full amenities block, including a small kitchen with gas rings. Automatic laundry equipment is provided. Filtered water is on tap. Choose from a wealth of level sites with a bush backdrop, some with power. A gazebo is available for dining and socialising. Relaxed camping, as it used to be, on the banks of the Waipawa River. From SHwy 2, turn into Victoria Street and then Harker Street and drive to the end where you will find a quiet 6.5 acre park with a tranquil country setting and just a short walk from the town shops and services. The kids will appreciate the nearby skatepark, tennis courts and pool; along with the small on-site play area and nearby river swimming. The grounds have picnic tables with a large, shady grassed area for tents and 52 powered sites. The simple kitchen has space to linger and watch TV while you enjoy a meal. Showers are limited, but roomy. There are automatic washers and a dryer in the laundry. Friendly camping with your hosts, Paddy, Tess and Livi. Power sites and non powered sites all $15 per person. Kids 12 years and under are half price and 2 years and under are free.

Only 400 metres off the main road, down an avenue of citrus trees, is this
superb holiday park. A large proportion of the park is owner occupied.
There are some available sites for casuals dotted around but a cluster of prime
riverside sights have been set aside for the holidaymaker. Gaze across the
well-kept lawns to the tidal estuary with farmland in the distance. A spic and
span central ablutions block is nicely tiled, has metered showers and includes
a disability suite. The roomy kitchen/dining has ovens, cooktops, microwaves
and instant boiling water but you need to provide your own cutlery, pots and plates. Alongside is a large lounge and an exchange library opening to a
recreation room with pool table, darts and table tennis. The laundry is wellequipped
and has an iron. There is a central play area for the children including
a trampoline. Dump station for guests only. There is a filleting bench, but ALL
fish waste MUST be removed from the park. The 2hr return walk beside the
tidal river to the sea will give your legs a good stretch. All sites are from $18

The first Lake Waikaremaona campsite you hit driving from the Wairoa road end, it is 10 km south of the Waikaremoana Visitor Centre. A basic self registration campsite, it has been closed in the past due to an aquatic weed
infestation. Check with the Visitor Centre for its current status before camping here. This lakeside campsite offers toilets and a boat ramp and has room for about 6 tents. Water is available from the stream. Camping is free at this site.

A relaxed Christian focused camp between the beautiful Lakes Rotoehu and Rotoma, some 30 miles from Rotorua. Adjacent to the Rotoma Scenic Reserve and the local school, it is a peaceful spot away from the main tourist bustle. The camp has a bush backdrop with large, tidy, level sites, and only a short walk to the beautiful Waitangi Soda Springs for a hot soak. The amenities have a beautiful mural painted on the outside, and have clean, metered showers, toilets, and a breezy covered communal dining and social area beside the kitchens. Nearby Lake Rotoma is a popular spot for fishing and water sports, so you want to utilise the fish cleaning facilities.  No credit card or eftpos so bring your cash.

A friendly park with art-deco style buildings situated a short drive from central Rotorua. In a quiet suburban location at Ngongotaha, you can relax at the camp or enjoy a short walk to the lake, local village shops or nearby popular trout fishing streams. For the fisherman there is fish cleaning equipment and a smokehouse, and a BBQ can be hired to cook the catch of the day. Facilities are non-smoking and the showers are free. Major upgrades are planned in the kitchen area, a nice outdoor seating area is the start of these. While the kitchen is small at the moment, it has all the amenities you need, and everything is clean and smart. Amuse the children at the playground with trampoline, TV/games room or fun bike hire, while the spa pool or above ground solar heated swimming pool are open from October to May, or stay in touch using the wireless hotspot. If you are into mountain biking, then this is the camp for you, with back gate access to the local mountain bike trails, book ahead for the onsite sorts masseuse, and a purpose built bike wash. First camp as you come in from Taupo, this well-groomed park is lush with mature trees and ponga ferns, giving it a restful urban setting. Choose from 100 powered sites, large vehicle bays, or a special 24-site hardstand campervan area, complete with covered walkway to the streamlined kitchen and inviting indoor recreational area. Campers have the option of several different kitchens, all with plentiful cooking facilities, or of enjoying an open-air meal at the BBQ dining areas. Tent sites can be found on a picturesque, elevated lawn at the rear of the camp complete with their own amenities block and views of the surrounding hills. All the facilities are first class and have disabled access, recent makeovers have made things even nicer, and a dump point is provided. Take a soak in the hot mineral pools, or try the heated swimming pool, children are well catered for with lots of new equipment in the adventure playground under magnificent oak trees, as well as a bike track. Right out the back is a large area that includes facilities for playing volleyball, cricket, tennis, or rugby. Large groups are no problem here, and the upgrades planned in the next two years are exciting. Ruakaka Beach Holiday Park is on the Bream Bay Coast. There are 264 sites with power and 80 sites non-powered. Choose from a wide variety of sites, some overlooking the estuary and sea. This camp has bird-conservation areas and resident ducks. There are excellent ablutions. All have token metered showers in over seven different blocks, plus disability facilities; all spotlessly clean. The automatic laundry equipment is first class. The kitchens are tidy, with limited appliances. A kitchen block has been built. recently For the active camper there is tennis, fishing plus other seaside options, and for the children, a playground. A secured boat parking area and fish cleaning bench is provided. You can walk through the camp to a 7-day grocery shop. A sewerage and dump point, plus car/boat wash facilities are provided. Between Raglan and Kawhia (approximately 25 km south of Raglan on the
gravel coast road), Ruapuke offers rural camping in a streamside setting.
Alternatively turn into Te Mata Road from the SH23 and travel for approx 20
km (only last 5km gravel road) Over the hill is a beach popular for fishing and
surfing. There are 60 sites available, 10 with power. The fisherman’s kitchen
has a full stove, plus hotplates and fridge/freezers. There are hot-water
showers in the rustic ablutions and a free auto washer and dryer.

Enjoy the stunning views of Russell township, the Bay, and over to Paihia. This park is located on the hill above the waterfront, with an easy walk to shops, restaurants, heritage buildings and trails. Sites are level on three

Overlooking the water, is a well appointed kitchen, with adjoining dining, and TV annexe. Wifi is also available. There are good cobbled driveways throughout forming a one-way system to a separate exit and a central play area and equipment for children. Boat engine flush and fish cleaning facilities are available. The many activities in this area include fishing, sailing, kayaking, cycling, Bay of Islands cruises, bushwalking, and heritage trails. Approx 3.5 kilometers from Russell is this tranquil picturesque camp, set in a sheltered bush covered valley. Some 14 acres, is divided by trees giving a variety of spacious sites some with privacy (around 40 have power). A swimming pool with outdoor seating, and an imaginative children's play area overlook a large raised lawn with al fresco dining. Each of the tables has an umbrella and a BBQ, A choice of two kitchens, one with an adjacent TV lounge, internet access and a log fire. An outdoor area has a wood fired pizza oven and an all weather table tennis table. Two clean ablution blocks provide ample facilities. Both automatic laundry equipment and clotheslines are plentiful. There are a number of outdoor taps in the grounds, a boat wash, fish-cleaning area and a smokehouse. Enjoy the many activities in the area, including hiring bikes, fishing, kayaking and walking and get the 'lowdown' on the history of Russell. This is the closest camp to the Twin Coast Cycle trail, and great camp for those doing the Cape Brett walk. There are boat ramps near by and wonderful bird life. - you have an opportunity to see both wekas (an endangered N Z flightless bird) and Kiwis which can be heard at night.
