On the way to the very bottom of the South Island, you may want to stop for a night at this lovely rural retreat. With only a couple of powered sites, and only a few tent sites, the emphasis is on making sure people have a good stay. You will get a farmstay experience, at backpacker prices, watch the shearing, feed the calves, or go for a walk on the hills. Come back to lovely hot showers in modern bathrooms, a large lounge and kitchen area that is up-to-date and has a few games, books, and puzzles for your enjoyment. Laundry facilities are by honesty box, there are picnic tables and an outside BBQ as well. Your hosts are Justine and Andrew, and their three lovely girls who run out to welcome you. $15 for one, $30 for two, any extras at $10 each.

On the edge of a football field, and under the large mature trees, is this tiny
camp. There are about 20 sites, eight with power, all on grass. Facilities are
tired but tidy and include a small kitchen/dining with basic cooking facilities,
clean toilets, and a washing machine and dryer. There is a small playground for
children and a lrage field in front, you will share this spot with a few permanent
residents. This is a council owned camp, visited twice daily by caretakers John
and Sandra who live at 5 Hulme Street if you need them. If they are not
available, speak to the manager at the Otautau Hotel in the Main Street. Tent
sites are $10 for two, extra adults $5, powered sites are $15 for two adults,
plus $5 for extras.

There is a BBQ and a log fire in the TV room. This is a good spot for surfing, fishing and tramping or enjoying a meal at the adjacent tavern bistro. Free wifi is available and pets are welcome, they might want to join the friendly pony in the small paddock in the middle of camp. This camp is on the outskirts of Winton and edges the Winton Golf Course.
There are endless tent sites and six power sites on grass/gravel stands, campers may use the club facilities which include lovely old fashioned but clean toilets, a shower, but no kitchen. There is, however, a washing machine. If the caretaker isn’t around, there is an honesty box for fees, $20 powered, $15 unpowered per site per night. Showers are available for $2.

Right in the heart on Invercargill, this camp surprises you with its large mature trees and well looked after gardens. There are 30 power and tent sites tucked away round the back of this city street. The main amenities block has an excellent large kitchen/dining/lounge with appliances and a huge variety of eating and cooking utensils, and a whiteboard to leave messages for fellow travellers. There is wheel chair access and a separate shower and toilet room and are in pristine condition with eco-friendly lighting, gas hot water, and electronically controlled showers. The laundry has coin operated auto washers and dryers, 200mb of free wifi per adult per night, and a dump station. This camp is close to supermarkets, the famous _Splash Palace_ and a ten minute walk to the centre of town. Powered sites are $22 for one adult, $37 for two, extras $16. Non-powered sites are $18 for one, or $33 for two, extras $16.
