Catchpool Valley is the most popular entrance to Remutaka Forest Park. It includes Orongorongo Valley and its booked huts - bookings can be made via the online booking system or by contacting the Wellington Visitor Centre. Within Catchpool Valley are attractive short walks and access to longer bush tramps, a well maintained campground, and pleasant picnic and barbecue facilities. There is also a field centre, toilets, and a 24-hour emergency telephone. The Catchpool Valley is undergoing a transformation as pine trees planted by the former New Zealand Forest Service are removed to enable the return of native forest.

This historic hotel is a five minute drive north from Takaka. Camping is in a peaceful country setting on spacious grounds with a great family atmosphere. Two power sites and plenty of level grass to set up your van or tent. A good kitchen with all appliances and utensils are available for your use, and the lounge is in a large comfortable room on the ground floor of the hotel, that is shared with backpackers. Showers and toilets are upstairs and are tidy and clean. Fish and chips are available, as is the internet. Pre-arranged pickups are available in a courtesy shuttle from town. This is a large country camp with plentiful facilities, including those for disabled people. There are a lot of permanents in this park, but it is done very well. An immaculate kitchen has a microwave, rangettes and fridge/freezer. The laundry includes a children’s bath and use of an iron. The ablution blocks are very spacious with lots of good showers. A smaller kitchen and a laundry have been added to help in the busy season. A separate TV/dining room has double doors opening to the garden, where there is a children’s play area. Much hard work has been put into landscaping the grounds, which are colourful and well kept. Play golf on the 10-hole par 3 golf course, and eftpos is available. Please and make sure you book in advance as there are limited sites.

From SHwy 2, turn into Victoria Street and then Harker Street and drive to the end where you will find a quiet 6.5 acre park with a tranquil country setting and just a short walk from the town shops and services. The kids will appreciate the nearby skatepark, tennis courts and pool; along with the small on-site play area and nearby river swimming. The grounds have picnic tables with a large, shady grassed area for tents and 52 powered sites. The simple kitchen has space to linger and watch TV while you enjoy a meal. The river runs alongside the campsite, where you can pitch your tent right beside the water and fish for trout. Once a scout camp, there is great children’s playground come obstacle course, swimming holes in the river, and a large area for you to set up your tent or park your van. The campers’ kitchen has electric hobs, hot water, fridges,
microwave and dining area. Ablutions are reminiscent of its prior use with concrete block buildings, but bright new shower curtains and paint liven things up and everything is clean and tidy. There is a basic laundry, and a spa and sauna are available for hire, as well as a dump station. The campground is also dog friendly.

Only 400 metres off the main road, down an avenue of citrus trees, is this
superb holiday park. A large proportion of the park is owner occupied.
There are some available sites for casuals dotted around but a cluster of prime
riverside sights have been set aside for the holidaymaker. Gaze across the
well-kept lawns to the tidal estuary with farmland in the distance. A spic and
span central ablutions block is nicely tiled, has metered showers and includes
a disability suite. The roomy kitchen/dining has ovens, cooktops, microwaves
and instant boiling water but you need to provide your own cutlery, pots and plates. Alongside is a large lounge and an exchange library opening to a
recreation room with pool table, darts and table tennis. The laundry is wellequipped
and has an iron. There is a central play area for the children including
a trampoline. Dump station for guests only. There is a filleting bench, but ALL
fish waste MUST be removed from the park. The 2hr return walk beside the
tidal river to the sea will give your legs a good stretch. All sites are from $18
per adult, children $9. Seasonal rates apply.

The grounds of this spot have been beautifully landscaped and the camp has a panoramic view over the sea. Based in an old hall, the lounge is a huge area that includes a stage, a ping pong table, puzzles, and large comfy sofas pulled up around the huge stone fireplace. There is also a TV and piano, as well as a separate library with many books to borrow. The kitchen has served many people in its lifetime, but is immaculate and quirky with Its old wood walls and retro dining chairs and tables. The toilets and showers are plentiful and recently painted, as is the laundry which has automated washing machines and dryers. The whole place is spotlessly clean and welcoming and is a great stopover on the Te Araroa walking track. Your hosts are Craig and Veronica Wylie, and there are 18 sites available for vans and tents. Prices are $20 for one person and $30 for two, extra adults are $15 and children aged five to12 years are $5, while children under five years are free.

A friendly park with art-deco style buildings situated a short drive from central Rotorua. In a quiet suburban location at Ngongotaha, you can relax at the camp or enjoy a short walk to the lake, local village shops or nearby popular trout fishing streams. Ruakaka Beach Holiday Park is on the Bream Bay Coast. There are 264 sites with power and 80 sites non-powered. Choose from a wide variety of sites, some overlooking the estuary and sea. This camp has bird-conservation areas and resident ducks. There are excellent ablutions. All have token metered showers in over seven different blocks, plus disability facilities; all spotlessly clean. The automatic laundry equipment is first class. The kitchens are tidy, with limited appliances. A kitchen block has been built. recently For the active camper there is tennis, fishing plus other seaside options, and for the children, a playground. A secured boat parking area and fish cleaning bench is provided. You can walk through the camp to a 7-day grocery shop. A sewerage and dump point, plus car/boat wash facilities are provided. Between Raglan and Kawhia (approximately 25 km south of Raglan on the
gravel coast road), Ruapuke offers rural camping in a streamside setting.
Alternatively turn into Te Mata Road from the SH23 and travel for approx 20
km (only last 5km gravel road) Over the hill is a beach popular for fishing and
surfing. There are 60 sites available, 10 with power. The fisherman’s kitchen
has a full stove, plus hotplates and fridge/freezers. There are hot-water
showers in the rustic ablutions and a free auto washer and dryer.

Enjoy the stunning views of Russell township, the Bay, and over to Paihia. This park is located on the hill above the waterfront, with an easy walk to shops, restaurants, heritage buildings and trails. Sites are level on three
terraces, with the higher sites having great views. All amenities are on the middle terrace. A disability access bathroom is available on request. Overlooking the water, is a well appointed kitchen, with adjoining dining, and TV annexe. Wifi is also available. There are good cobbled driveways throughout forming a one-way system to a separate exit and a central play area and equipment for children. Boat engine flush and fish cleaning facilities are available. The many activities in this area include fishing, sailing, kayaking, cycling, Bay of Islands cruises, bushwalking, and heritage trails. Approx 3.5 kilometers from Russell is this tranquil picturesque camp, set in a sheltered bush covered valley. Some 14 acres, is divided by trees giving a variety of spacious sites some with privacy (around 40 have power). A swimming pool with outdoor seating, and an imaginative children's play area overlook a large raised lawn with al fresco dining. Each of the tables has an umbrella and a BBQ, A choice of two kitchens, one with an adjacent TV lounge, internet access and a log fire. An outdoor area has a wood fired pizza oven and an all weather table tennis table. Two clean ablution blocks provide ample facilities. Both automatic laundry equipment and clotheslines are plentiful. There are a number of outdoor taps in the grounds, a boat wash, fish-cleaning area and a smokehouse. Enjoy the many activities in the area, including hiring bikes, fishing, kayaking and walking and get the 'lowdown' on the history of Russell. This is the closest camp to the Twin Coast Cycle trail, and great camp for those doing the Cape Brett walk. There are boat ramps near by and wonderful bird life. - you have an opportunity to see both wekas (an endangered N Z flightless bird) and Kiwis which can be heard at night. You may even be lucky enough to see one. The BBC filmed the birdlife in this camp in Nov 2014, and will be screening world wide in 2016. Dogs by arrangement. Seasonal rates apply.

Take the road to Scotts Ferry at the main road intersection in Bulls, otherwise you may end up on the wrong side of the river mouth! This small “Camp Inn” is on your left, just as you enter the Scotts Ferry township, tucked up against a stop bank of the Rangitikei River. A small, well-equipped kitchen cabin is unlocked for campers to use. New Custodians Frank and Vicki. There are 7 powered sites and a large area for non-powered sites. There are 2 ablution blocks housed in concrete water tanks each with one shower and toilet. Hot water is provided by a gas hot water system.
The prices effective September 1, 2022. $20 for a powered site and $15 for an unpowered site. Plus, $2 for a shower and $2 per load. Laundry detergent was provided. Payment can be made online or in cash.

South of Hot Water Beach, turn off on SH25 at Whenuakite (watch for the big sign) this innovative camp has been built up around a former dairy shed and has some amusing rural touches. There are 24 powered sites and 55 tent sites. The modern facilities are excellent, with the front part of the camp sharing spacious facilities with _Cowree Lodge_, and the rear camping area has its own modern amenity block. This new block with expansive rural views has a large kitchen, recreation room and sparkling free showers and toilets. The main lodge has a sizable kitchen and lounge with all the trimmings that make it a home-away-from-home. Off the lounge is a large, open-air dining/BBQ patio that once was the rotary yard for the milking station. Dual shower rooms for both sexes, plus an overflow shower and a couple of toilets, are found at the other end of the building. Your friendly hosts, Don and Dawn, are happy for campers to help themselves to the fruit trees scattered about (in season). There is also a small office/shop which sells basic items. This colourful beachfront camp just north of Mokau township is perched right next to the black sand beach, nicely sheltered by dunes and shrubbery. The camp is traditional style and family friendly., Its river mouth locality offers a choice of freshwater and sea fishing, as well as whitebaiting. Or you can enjoy a long walk on the 3km stretch of beach between Awakino and Mokau Rivers. The camp has over 60 caravan/motor home power sites and 30 tents sites. The well-loved facilities include a bright, but small, kitchen/dining area with TV, which opens to an outdoor dining deck and BBQ. Hotplate or microwave cooking and a fridge/freezer are provided. There is a fish cleaning area for you to prepare your catch. The main ablutions have token-operated showers plus there is an extra toilet block for the far reaches of the camp. A laundry annex at the rear of the main block has automatic washers and a dryer. Plenty of taps means only a short walks to fill up with water. A dump station is available.

It's always great to see a community behind a camp ground, and this one is no exception. When we arrived a reunion was in full swing, but the friendly folks here still had time to sit down and chat. Amenities are clean with a good kitchen and three full stoves, plus fridge/freezers, while the showers are in good order and there is a separate block of toilets. A porch laundry has automatic washing machines, and a former classroom has been converted into a well-refurbished communal lounge with a pot belly stove and TV. All the facilities are clean, and a good children's playground is an added attraction. This is rural camping, with a hotel, postal service and other shops fairly handy, with whitebaiting and fishing in the nearby river. A good starting point for many tramping tracks in the area and popular with the 4WDs, it is also a stopping point on the old ghost road cycle track opened recently. and well signposted from State Highway 1. There is a recreational area with

is no power here, but outdoor sinks, cold-water showers and flush toilets with
basins and paper towels are available. No animals allowed in the entire park
as it is an open santuary. The whole place is alive with bird life, and resident
peacocks will share their park with you. Charges are $13 per adult and $6 per
child. There is no charge for preschoolers. There is a designated area for selfcontained
vehicles for $6 and $4 for adults and children respectively. Annual
passes are available for nonpeak period camping. There are no rubbish bins
provided at Auckland Regional Parks, so be prepared to take out all rubbish

Sheehans Creek. There is no power, or shops, so come well prepared. The

A well laid out camp, with established plantings and manicured lawns, the

building houses a modern kitchen/lounge with all facilities, and a dining room
is adjacent. A half wall provides privacy for a TV and lounge room, a great

This camp is part of the Gisborne Showgrounds on the southern approach to the city. Situated next to an 18-hole golf course, on 40 hectares of rural tranquillity, the 50 powered sites are large with ample room for even the largest motorhomes (dump station provided). The modern amenities block is kept spic and span. The kitchen has drink vending machines, electric and gas cooking, fridges and microwaves. Relax next door in the large dining area and lounge with TVs. Smart, modern, coin-operated showers, toilet and laundry are provided with facilities for disabled access. The camp is five minutes from Gisborne City and the beaches. Peak season rates apply.

Skippers is part of Mount Aurum Recreation Reserve, among the hills and valleys that fed much of Wakatipu's 1860s gold fever. The reserve was established in 1985 from Mount Aurum Station and annually attracts tens of thousands of visitors wanting to explore the 9,100-hectare reserve, despite the challenges of getting there. The reserve begins after crossing the historic Skippers suspension bridge. Opened in 1901 it's the most spectacular of its kind in New Zealand. On the terrace above is a virtual ghost town, the remnants of Skippers Township, once the largest gold settlement on the Shotover River. Mount Aurum Reserve offers dramatic views and opportunities to walk, tramp, camp, paint, kayak, mountain bike, picnic and raft.

Linkwater is on the scenic Queen Charlotte Drive between Havelock and Picton. Easy, level camping here with a hill backdrop in a peaceful farm setting where you can meet and feed the animals. The grounds are open and you can BBQ or picnic under the trees, 12 sites with power, plus lots of tent sites. A light, airy kitchen has two full stoves, microwave and fridge/freezer (kitchen utensils can be borrowed). In the dining room there is TV and a woodburner, and this room opens to a sheltered patio with picnic tables just outside. Off a corridor there are showers on one side and toilets on the other, including a superb disability suite and excellent automatic laundry equipment. In the heart of vineyard and fruit-bowl country, this camp is 6km from Blenheim and 10mins to the Picton Ferry. On one boundary are campsites along the stream bank, the grounds are open and well-kept with tree boundaries, and more trees have been planted for shelter. There are around 70 power sites, some with hard stands. The ablutions are basic and with a charge for the showers. Two kitchens are well equipped with full stoves, and the TV room has a pool table and table tennis for your enjoyment. Cool off in the swimming pool, or enjoy the children’s playground. It maybe back to nature in GBI but you will find a few comforts here. There’s
room for about 14 tents in a grassy area beside the lodge. Campers can
access the lodge restaurant for meals and fabulous Pizzas. You can use the

Great Barrier Island’s Tryphena wharf and Claris airport is by arrangement.
The office and reception is open 9am-12.30 and 6pm-7.30pm. Camping costs

Notes on the following Department of Conservation Campsites on Great
Barrier Island:
The DOC campsites on the island are all in beautiful coastal settings and
adjacent to important wildlife habitats for endangered birds such as the Brown
Teal and Banded Rail. Please do not bring your domestic pets. Cooking
fires are permitted in fireplaces provided at Akapoua and The Green only.
For this reason bring your own portable gas or spirit fuel cookers. No
alcohol is permitted at the campsites. Rubbish may be managed during the
peak summer period only, so ‘pack-in-pack-out’ at all other times. Please do
not disturb stock and shut all gates behind you. To avoid disappointment,
prior booking, registration and payment of fees are essential before arrival.
