This small alpine park on the southern fringe of the Fox Glacier township is surrounded by West Coast bush and is open for vehicle camping only. Walking distance to the Fox Glacier guide office, cafe and local pub there are 22 power sites that form a two-tier radius around the centre of the camp. The unisex disability bathrooms and all other ablutions are modern, clean and tidy with free showers, while a small kitchen has all appliances and TV/dining area. Outside there is a covered BBQ area and the laundry has both washing machine and dryers. You can hire a bike, and after dark you might like to visit the glow-worms. There is a dump station for camp patrons and all parking is on hard stands. Your host is Deborah and sites are from $20 per adult, children from five to 15 years $6, under five free.

This resort has a spectacular beachfront location, with island-studded ocean views and the famous pink and white sands of Hahei beach. An easy walk to Cathedral Cove and marine park. The resort's mature and well-wooded grounds have 300 sites, around half with power. The hill-top, beachfront campervan sites have incomparable views and come with their own picnic tables and clotheslines. In the camper's kitchen are fridges, microwave and hob cooking. There is a resort store on site and a village shopping centre close by. Three well-cleaned blocks of ablutions have roomy, timed showers, and baths (including a baby's bath). There is a central covered laundry area, and it has a free air pump for airbed inflation! The breezeway area has clotheslines and opens to a drying room. In another building is a comfy TV room. After a successful day's fishing, use the fish-cleaning facilities, BBQs and outdoor shellfish boilers. Paid wireless internet is available. From Lake Benmore, take the turn off at the mountain end of Burkes Pass. The journey is around 50km of unsealed road, but worth it if you want a large lakefront camp with a boat ramp, fishing and boating. Owned by a cooperative of enthusiastic campers, this is not luxury camping so you need to be reasonably independent. Flush toilets are available but no showers, and there is a dump point here. Tent sites $20 per family, or a season ticket at $350 per annum.

An enjoyable suburban motor camp, thoughtfully laid-out in a u-shape, but without the glitz of some of the bigger urban camps. You can relax under avenues of shady trees, on box-hedged, sheltered sites that lie well to the sun. 38 sites have power, most have taps and there is plenty of room for tents. An awesome double-storey playhouse and slide will be a hit with the kids. There is a compact kitchen with fridge/freezer, gas stoves and hobs and a selection of small appliances. The modern ablutions have roomy, free showers and two separate disabled access/family bathroom suites. Extras include a drinks vending machine and TV lounge, along with an internet kiosk. An automatic laundry (with soap vending machine) and a dump station is provided. As this is a busy urban camp, it is wise to pre-book all year round.

Just outside of Hanmer Springs, is this spacious campground that takes you back to your childhood school camps. Tent and campervan sites are polka dotted between deciduous trees, all on flat land and with that beautiful forest all around you. The amenities include five well-appointed kitchens and dining rooms, and numerous shower and toilet blocks. There is a purpose built building with facilities for disabled people, and an exciting playground. This camp is well set up for large groups and with the new upgrades everything is spick and span. You can leave from here for a trip to the Molesworth Station, go fishing, mountain biking, skiing or tramping in the area. Tent sites and unpowered campervan sites cost $14 per adult and 76 per child. Please note that if the camp is hosting a school group, it cannot take casual campers so book ahead to avoid disappointment.

This is the closest camp to the village and thermal pools of Hanmer Springs.
There are level sites for the camper within the busy area, or others that are
more secluded, many with large shade trees. The kitchen with a stove and
microwave, opens to a bright friendly dining room, and a tiled ablution block has a bath in the ladies area. A second facilities block has toilets, showers and
a new family bathroom, there is also another well-equipped modern kitchen.
The second dining room and adjoining modern kitchen with ranch sliders is
located in the back camping area, and the gas BBQ is popular for alfresco
dining. Disabled suites are available in both camping areas. An exciting
adventure play area has a jumping pillow, and a trampoline for the children.
You can play squash, watch TV, enjoy the swap library or go on the internet.
Fun bikes can be hired for use in the park, as can mountain bikes. Your hosts

This camp is currently closed for winter. Reopens Labour Weekend 2025.
Travel south through Herbert for 3km then turn west onto Breakneck Road. Only 1km further and you will find Herbert Forest Camping Ground a basic but beautiful camp on 52 acres. The grounds are well groomed and the many camp sites are on two levels amongst lovely stately trees. Just 25 power sites but easy to find your own secluded spot. The facilities are basic but clean and tidy with new showers and toilets, washing machine and a cosy kitchen/dining with hotplates and fridge. A rose garden has been planted in the front of these facilities. Scattered around the spacious grounds are wood braziers. Plenty to do here - in peace and quiet you can listen to the birds, kayak on the river which has safe swimming for the children or take one of the many walking tracks. A dump station is available.

Hideaway offers plenty of lawn tent sites and 10 power sites, all with taps and sumps. Communal facilities are plentiful but well-used. There are two lounges and two big homely kitchens complete with all utensils, plus two modern laundries. The ablutions have both separate and unisex showers available. Outdoors there is a free-form swimming pool, with newly renovated deck, new BBQ’s and sink. You can buy provisions at the lodge/store/office. is an ideal place to base yourselves when you are visiting the Catlins. Set

camp. There are about 20 sites, eight with power, all on grass. Facilities are

residents. This is a council owned camp, visited twice daily by caretakers John

Nestled into native bush, with brand new modern facilities providing free showers, with wheelchair access, a large spacious kitchen with gas hobs, ovens, fridges, microwaves, toasters and hot water on tap. There is a coin operated laundry with dryers and washing machines. A TV room with Freeview, and internet kiosk with wireless is available for a small fee. The ablution and kitchen areas are adjoined to a spacious inner courtyard. Here a large screen TV offers Sky, Sport, a Cartoon Network, UKTV and a variety of other channels for your enjoyment. The park is being added to almost continuously, 6 showers have been added this summer. You can fish, kayak, swim, surf, dive, set off on a day trip to Cathedral Cove and back, maybe dig your own hot pool, or enjoy the local cafes. Your hosts are Sheree and Grant. As you pass through Huntly, look for the TransitNZ camp signs on the northern outskirts. Nestled on the shores of Lake Hakanoa (not suitable for swimming), lies a delightful small camp, hidden away from the passing traffic. On the grassy banks overlooking the lake are 49 sites with power and plenty of room for tents. Well-groomed and level, they come with their own friendly Pukeko who live in the lake-edge wetlands. A nearby domain offers pleasant gardens, the town swimming pool and an excellent playground for children. Enjoy a loop walk round the lake to the ‘Green Cathedral’. The amenities are immaculate and have free showers. The kitchen has plenty of bench space, cooking appliances and some crockery and cutlery. An automatic laundry and dump point are provided. The Hunua Ranges encompass more than 14,000 hectares of native forest featuring four water catchment reservoirs, tramping tracks, mountain biking,
amazing scenery, fishing, swimming pools and waterfalls. The Hunuas are also
the site of Auckland’s only mainland kokako population and refuge to the
Hochstetter’s frog. Charges for the five campsites are $6 for adults and $4 for
children. These are remote sites with areas for tenting, basic toilets and water
(always boil first). No dogs or fires are allowed at these sites. There are also
two designated areas for self-contained vehicles. Annual passes are available.
There are no rubbish bins provided so please take out all rubbish when you

Just as you reach the eastern edge of this quiet little beach town, turn left into Forest Road and aim for the camp named after the local shipwreck! Although not a beachfront camp, it offers an attractive setting with 50 powered sites
and around 30 tent sites. The grounds are level, with sites grouped together around their own waste disposal points. A great location for those who want to work off some energy in the nearby Domain skating rink, tennis courts or swimming pool. The camp has its own games hall and smart swimming pool, with a toddler’s pool operating in the busy season. The children’s play equipment is imaginative and challenging. The smart little kitchen has all the necessary equipment including a microwave. An attractive ablution block has hand driers and soap provided and there are automatic machines in the laundry. A dump station is provided. Pet friendly by arrangement.

As the name suggests, this camp looks directly over to White Island, with absolute beach access to stunning Waiotahi Beach which is just 5 km from Opotiki, en-route to Whakatane. Adjacent to its sandy shores there are
136 sites with power and taps. The site space is generous with a choice of
open or shady areas. The offce/shop sells basic supplies during peak holiday
times. The kitchen has stoves, microwave cooking and fridge/freezer and the adjacent alfresco dining area is under cover. There are free showers in the ablutions which have plentiful hot water and homely touches. An automatic laundry, gas BBQ’s and dump station are provided. For the fsherfolk, there is a filleting bench on-site and a boat ramp is 5 km away. Kids will enjoy the
swimming pool and games /TV room. Lots of options to add to your holiday
fun & enjoyment including a beachfront volleyball area, tennis court, free kayak
use, hammocks, and playground. Free WiFi. Most accommodation has been

DESCRIPTION:
Jacks Gasthof is on the coastal highway 5km north of Charleston and is a gem of a camp. Well laid out in a peaceful setting, with trees for shade, and lots of little nooks and crannies, there is plenty of tenting room and three sites with power. Facilities are minimal but unique in their own way, gtwo toilets, no kitchen but lots of outdoor sinks with drinkable water. The shower is an open air one, down by the river access, where you can have it cold, or for a gold donation they will turn on the hot water. You can pop down to the river for a swim, or take a walk through the bush. An ideal stopover, if you don\'t feel like cooking, have a pizza at the onsite restaurant where the locals meet the tourists. How many camps are there where you can have a crispy pizza, or a proper meal, have a drink or two, then walk back to your site? Your friendly hosts are Petra and Jack. A site will cost just $8 per person plus $5 per site for power wifi morning and evening.

DESCRIPTION:
Fifteen acres of terraced sites allow stunning outlooks to the river, mountains
and waterfalls. There are 30 power points on hard stands and 10 tent sites set
amongst the bush, as well as two large barns with private bays for camping or
campervans - keeping you covered in all weathers (each site has power and
water). The facilities are all modern and beautifully clean with sensor lighting,
and the office carries a good stock of essential items. The heated ablutions
have large showers with gas hot water, and hairdryers for the ladies. A disability
suite is available and a well-equipped laundry. The massive kitchen/dining and
lounge is tastefully decorated with a log burner, lounge suites and all cooking
equipment including cutlery and crockery which is available from the office.
Free BBQs and children’s play area are in the camp, as are internet access and
a dump station. Many mountain tramps start in this area and jet boat rides
are available on the Taramakau River, as well as being only 20 minutes from
the Temple Basin ski field. Your hosts are Darren and Toni. Sites from $40
for two people, extra adults are $20 and children under 10 years are $10.

Situated on a farm, 1 km east of Waitomo village, this backpackers hostel offers
convenient camping around it’s pleasant, elevated grounds. There are some
stunning campsites (4 with power), with great views out over the Waitomo
Valley. All the facilities, including internet access, are in the lodge. Designed
to capture the views and the sun, the lodge has a wrap-around deck with BBQ
and outdoor dining space or dine alfresco using one of the timber-slab picnic
tables dotted around the grounds. There is a swimming pool, tennis court,
basketball court, and a very relaxed atmosphere - with various farm animals

The park is set on 4.9ha so there is lots of room and excellent, well maintained facilities. This campsite has closed after the 2016 Kiakoura earthquake.
This small camp is just 32kms north of Kaikoura and boasts magnificent views and great walks. Fishing by both sea and river for crayfish and paua, and there are dolphins and seals in the bay just across the road. Find a spot in the shade of the fig tree in this peaceful and well sheltered camp. There are 12 powered sites available, plus tent sites. Facilities include toilets, showers, a coin operated auto washer, outside camp kitchen, and a gas BBQ. You may want to treat yourself to a fresh crayfish, paua pattie or scallop pie from the roadside shop out the front. Dogs are welcome, except during holiday periods and long weekends. Your friendly hosts are Belinda and Maurice. All sites are $15 per adult.

This spacious camp has a ribbon of sites along the beach front and is well endowed with trees. It is 7km south of Kaikoura with a great shop on-site. The amenities are in three blocks, all in good order including ablutions, laundries, and kitchens in two of the blocks. Fillet your fish in the two areas provided, cook them on the gas BBQ, then eat them in the outside covered dining area. This is an ideal base for diving and fishing, also good for whale, seal and coastal bird watching and in February and March you can see the dolphins playing in the bay. Fishing rods are available for hire, there_s also a boat and car wash. A family orientated camp with a play area leading to a flying fox is close to the beach, near the entrance is a mini golf course, and beach volleyball is available. There are over 100 power sites and twice as many for tents, a beachfront area has 29 power points, all hard stands, picnic tables and there are also tent sites. Wireless internet access is available and a dump point. No dogs between December 22nd and January 10th please. Your friendly hosts are Digby and Eve. A well landscaped park on the seaward side of Beach Road. There are 100
roomy grassed sites, 76 of which have power. There is a good playground that
includes a jumping pillow, and the kitchen and dining complex is attractive and
well equipped. Outside there is a pleasant BBQ pavilion for alfresco dining.
The spotless ablutions have a disability/infant suite and the laundry has fully
automatic equipment. You can enjoy either the outdoor, heated swimming
pool or the popular spa pool, and a card phone is provided for your use. Fish
cleaning facilities are available and there is a dump point, as well as internet
access. Your hosts are Lynne and Gerald Nolan. All sites are from $42 to $52
for two people.

Fully certified ‘self contained’ motor homes ONLY are permitted to stay overnight for not more than three consecutive nights, on the area of grass at the northern end of Kairakau Beach Road (past the new public toilet). The area allowed to be used is clearly signposted. Any other form of camping on any other ‘Council’ land at Kairakau Beach is NOT ALLOWED.

Situated above the mouth of the Waimakariri River, with a walkway from the camp to the river, this beautifully manicured park is a great spot. There is a village of well-settled caravans, immaculately presented with attractive mini-gardens. A large area has been set apart for casual campers, with views out to the hills and river. Hedged with pittisporums, and with water on each site, they are a great place to park. A bright, cheerful stainless steel kitchen and ablutions block is in this area, as well as an older one further down, all spotless and well kept, and all have been recently upgraded. The laundry has good auto equipment and your hosts are Bronwyn and Alan Waters.
A tent site will cost you $15 per person or with power $18. Unpowered sites are available at a discount for NZMCA members.
