Turn east off SHwy 35, beside the Raponga River bridge, onto the road to Anaura Bay. The road is fairly steep but is sealed all the way and your reward is a magnificent sheltered beach at your camp doorstep - with views to nearby Motuoroi Island. Although there is not much shade for the 94 level sites (24 with power), the location more than makes up for it (Captain Cook landed here in 1769). The large, well-equipped kitchen is to be found in the historic school building that has a nice sheltered verandah running along the front with great sea views. The camp store is open 7 days during the peak season. Two blocks of ablutions (Wahine and Tane) have showers and toilets. There is also an outdoor swim shower and basins. Children have a play area. There is an automatic laundry. Pets are welcome only in off-peak times. Fishing (beach and boat), diving and crayfishing in the vicinity are excellent. Your hosts are Victor and Dona . Tent sites are from $$18 per person, or from $20 with power. $10 children aged 6 to16, 5 and under free Wifi Available. Seasonal rates apply.
