Address:
Waihau Bay, RD 3 Opotiki, Bay of Plenty, East Cape, North Island
DESCRIPTION:
Look for the large orange float on the tree by the gateway. From here,
your host June McDonald can arrange private seaside camping for you. The
camp is 10 minutes drive away on coastal farmland. There is no power in
the rudimentary building that houses the kitchen/living areas, with a Kent
woodburner and gas cooking. There is a flush toilet. There is good fishing off the
rocks. June takes guided walks on the history of the area, a marae visit and traditional medicinal uses of native plants. You can take a 2 hour walk to the lighthouse or many other shorter walks. Campsites are from $10 per person.
