Take the turnoff to Kellys Bay that is signposted just after you leave the tar seal
on Pouto Road, then travel a further 6 km on a good gravel road. This is home
to spectacular flocks of oystercatchers, stilts, terns and other sea birds. The
camp is a tidy level grassed area across the road from the waters of this quiet
sheltered bay. There are 14 power sites and plenty of room for holidaymakers
who are independent. Facilities are minimal, water taps and clean long drop
toilets only. Privacy shelters have been erected, so you can use your own solar
shower; but that’s it! There is good shell and boat fishing, while the children
have a safe swimming beach and colourful play equipment. No Eftpos here
and the last stop for petrol is Dargaville, so make sure you have plenty to get
you back. The last shop is at Te Koperu. So please ensure you have plenty of
food. Terry and Jenny are your hosts. A family of two adults and two children
$17 per night for power. Non powered 2 adults and 2 children $13 per night.
