You are in the heart of farm country in this council owned camp, which is
closed in winter from May to September. Mainly populated by the same
families returning year after year, you will need to book if you want to squeeze
in. There is a large, level grassed area with several trees and hedges. 64 sites
have power and there is an abundance of tent sites. Amongst the amenities
is a useful kitchen (which doubles as a dining and library facility) with two full
stoves, microwaves, pots, utensils and fridge/freezers. The ablutions have been
newly refurbished and there are automatic machines and dryer in the laundry.
This area is popular for fishing and golfing and there is a good swimming hole
in the nearby river. No dogs please, your friendly hosts are Graeme and Kaye.
All sites are $12.50 per adult, $6 for children.

It's great to see a campground with lots of quirky objects scattered around, from the robot that meets you at the entrance to the sites, to the hedge face. Here you will find level sites on gently rising land with good shade trees. An inviting outdoor eating area has a BBQ and pizza oven with seating around, all sheltered by a trellis and pergola. In the kitchen is an island with hobs, microwave and fridge, plus small appliances. The ablution block is light and bright with plenty of good hot showers. In the laundry are automatic washing machines dryers and an iron. All amenities are clean and tidy. There is a children’s play area, trampoline and cricket pitch, and a popular solar heated swimming pool as well as a TV room. Children can borrow DVDs at no
charge. A peaceful setting great for a family, individual, backpacker or groups.
There are large spacious sites for campervans, caravans and tents, and it is a gentle stroll to the beach, marina or restaurants. It is also handy to two boat launch pads. Your hosts are Felicity, Richard and family. All sites from $16 per adult, $7.50 per child.

Highway 70, and 25 km south of Kaikoura. There is camping in an area separate

One of those basic beach camp grounds that are sadly becoming rare. 50 power sites on well drained, flat ground. The large kitchen is basic but clean, and there is plenty of freezer and refrigerator space, and an outside covered dining area. Older toilet facilities are clean and tidy, and the laundry includes auto washers and a dryer. There is a trampoline for children, and pushbikes available to use. It sounds like they have a lot of fun at this camp, with a stage out back for musical entertainment and the odd golf tournament with the locals. A short stroll down the road is a small pub, no doubt a welcome sight on a hot day. Internet is available. There are 50 powered sites, 40 non powered sites and 4 cabins.

A true oceanside camp, the interesting layout of meandering sealed roads and grouped campsites make for a community atmosphere. At the entrance is an office/camp store leading to the spacious grounds where three clean and well-equipped kitchens and two gas BBQs are provided with a covered eating area. Dispersed in various areas are four clean ablution blocks with good showers ($1 coin) and a disability suite. Two large laundry rooms, complete with book lending libraries, and a toddlers/babies wash and changing room. Whitebaiting in season, fishing, surfing or swimming are yours to enjoy, this camp is well suited for a family holiday with an onsite playground as well as another playground and paddling pool just down the road. Wifi is available, there is also a TV and seating in a well-renovated container as well as a herb garden outside. Your friendly hosts are Rex and Debbie Jefcoate. Don't expect manicured lawns and clearly marked sites in this cute little camp with a difference. Lovely gardens hide a multitude of historic railway guard vans, five powered sites and the room for tents. You can cook a meal at the station kitchen which doubles as a dining room. A lovely outside dining and BBQ area, covered with climbing plants and including a swing seat, is available also. The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils and the separate TV and recreation room includes comfy seating and a large TV. The ablutions area is clean, and have free showers, there is also a coin operated laundry available. A children's play area has a climbing frame and there is a large chess set on the paving stones. Your friendly hosts are David and Karen. Amberley is just 10km away for supplies, and please note there is no eftpos available. Power sites are $30 for two plus $10 each extra person, a tent site is $25 plus $10 per extra person.

This camp has plenty of shelter from the sea breezes and is an ideal spot for a family holiday, fishing for Dad, a wooden tower and slide for the children and plenty of room to play, while Mum can relax. Set out with fishing folk in mind, there is plenty of freezer space and a fish smoker for your catch, as well as a fish preparation room. In season you can try for whitebait, salmon, trout or ocean fish. There is ample level ground for tenting and more than 50 power sites. The two clean, renovated kitchens are well appointed; one with dining facilities and satellite TV, and a large sheltered area comes with free BBQs. The clean, single sex ablutions are refurbished and tidy, while the new modern unisex ablutions are complete with a disability suite. The water is treated and purified and has great pressure for your free shower, the automatic laundry machines are also free and a coin operated dryer is available. There is a dump station on site, your pets are welcome. Eftpos and credit cards are accepted, your friendly host is Derek. Unpowered sites are $15 for one person, and $26 for two. Take the road to Mt Aspiring/Glendhu Bay for 2kms then turn left onto Studholme Road North (make sure you dont take Studholme South). This camp is ideal for skiers and summer visitors alike as it is well set up with just about everything you could need. With its landscaped grounds and large established shade trees, this camp gets lovely sun all day, and enjoys great mountain views. Plentiful ablutions (with under floor heating), good kitchen, the lounge has a wood burner and Sky TV. There is a children's playground here and a covered BBQ area. For the skier, a workshop and safe storage for ski-gear, and enjoy a soak in the two hot spas and/or the sauna. Motorhome sites are all on hard stands and spacious, some tent sites are also available. With renovations and upgrades every year, and spotless presentation, this is a camp you will want to stay at. Everything you need is included in the price (except for laundry facilities), even unlimited wifi and a car wash. Trampoline and volleyball are available, the local river is good for trout fishing and many activities can be accessed from Havelock including the mail boat run. DESCRIPTION:

At the top of the West Coast, and not far from Farewell Spit, is this ecofriendly camp set amongst rural farmland. There are eight sites with power around the landscaped grounds, plus plenty of tent sites. A nice main building houses a large kitchen with gas hobs and other facilities, plus a spacious dining area with a large polished wooden slab table as it's focal point. There is also a pool table in this area as well as an outside covered deck with sofas and chairs, and a view to the surrounding countryside. Unisex ablutions have large coin-operated gas heated showers and an equally large disability suite. The laundry has auto machines and there is a children’s playground. Take a 20 minute walk to Wharariki Beach, which is famous for its sunsets, and you may be lucky enough to see seals, and seal pups basking and swimming here too. A gorgeous tree enclosed café is on the edge of the camp, and numerous walks are close by. Stock up at Collingwood on the way as there are no shops here. A site will cost you $18 per person, and if you want power it is an extra $5.

A self-registration camp site at the Pukatea Stream. This one suits the nature
lover because as well as walks, the area offers sea fishing, swimming and small
boating. The only facilities here are toilets and cold water, but there is disabled
access.

From Labour Weekend to Easter the gate is closed from 9 pm to 7 am daily. Closing the gate is for campers safety.

  With its large and spacious grounds, the pine trees that surround it, and the
many shade trees, this campground has a peacefulness about it.  Only half
an hour from Christchurch, you don't have to go far to get away. As you
drive through the camp on the sealed roads, the funky wooden people signs
will help you navigate your way around the masses of campsites amongst
large trees. Tidy, clean ablution blocks are scattered throughout the camp, all
have disability facilities. There are two clean and tidy kitchens, one featuring
a recycled timber bench top, there is also covered outside dining provided.
Auto machines and dryers are available in the laundries and a dump station
is available. Children will enjoy the adventure playgrounds, the room to bike
around, and swimming at the safe beach just over the dunes. Jan Reid is your
friendly host. Power sites $34 for two adulst, $7 for a child, unpowered sites
$15 for an adult, $7 for a child.

The Wyndham camping ground is temporarily closed for maintenance and a
review of how it is managed. The aim is to reopen as soon as
possible.

Although this is in pine tree country, the camp is on an open paddock with
only an occasional tree for shade. Badly in need of an upgrade, It is a quiet
rural situation with 12 power sites and plenty of room for tents. There is a
homely kitchen with a mini dining area and all appliances, plus cooking and
eating utensils. The few showers are roomy and cost $2, and a small laundry
houses an auto washing machine. The toilets (a public facility) are separate and
not very clean. There are two adjacent hard tennis courts and a bowling green,
with a golf course nearby. Lynley Wright is the caretaker. Tent sites are $8 per
person or with power they are $12 per person, children under 13 years are
$6. Dogs permitted, must be on a lead at all times.

Take the winding 9km drive through the hills to Wainui, it is worth it. Register
at the main office, then take the second gate on your right, this area is set aside
for casual campers: the main part of the camp is for organized groups. Here
there is a pleasant tenting area surrounded by trees with some sites on the
riverbank, where you can listen to the birds singing and the crickets chirping. It
is serviced by a small number of facilities and a kitchen. There are three levels
of camping and three power sites - you may need a long lead. Tent sites from
$15 per adult plus extra $10 per site for power (min charge $20 per site). The
manager is Mike Linton.
