This holiday park is on the site of the old Whangapoua Forestry Headquarters.
It Is located at the top of the Whangapoua Harbour on a large area of flat
rural land. Just beyond the harbour is the iconic Whangapoua Beach and the
stunning world renowned New Chum Beach.The beach has been voted “one
of the top twenty beaches In the world and is an unspoilt paradise accessible
only by foot. Matarangi Beach and two boat ramps are within 10km radius
and there is a café just 200m from the park. No dogs are permitted. The
park is within the Whangapoua Kiwi Habitat zone. A restored modern clean
kitchen has a large sun deck There is an ablution block complete with hot
water showers, toilets and laundry facilities. The camping area is large and flat
so can easily cater for large vehicles. Fresh water is available, wifi available, and
new playground has just been installed. The camp is 6km from the beginning
of the New Chum’s Beach walk. Cost from $15 per adult per night, $7.50 per child 3 to15 years. Power is $5 per night per site. Your hosts are Suzanne
and Aaron. Seasonal rates apply and the camp is closed from May to October

DESCRIPTION:

A few minutes walk to Whangarei city, very handy to shops and services.
A pedestrian bridge at the rear provides easy access to some local shops
although the camp store is well stocked. A choice of paved or lawn parking
for campervans is serviced by a wheelchair-friendly ablution block and dump
stations. The main amenities building has a ‘focal point’ kitchen, well equipped
and clean, that now opens to an eating area and comfortable lounge that has
easy chairs, TV, books, a phone and there is a playground for the kids. The
ablutions have well maintained showers. There is a good modern laundry.
Very big shady trees will protect you and the family from the worst of the heat.
A coin phone and internet facility are available, plus free use of the BBQ. Sites
at the back are occupied long term. All campsites are $18 per person. Pets
by arrangement. Your hosts are Brad and Clare.

DESCRIPTION:

Look for the big bright roadside sign on the main Whangarei to Tutukaka Road. Located a stone_s throw from Whangarei Falls and close to local orchards, this camp is laid out in treed bays around the services. Centrally placed is a good size round swimming pool, a gazebo style spa pool, shower blocks, separate toilet blocks, a kitchen and laundry. The kitchen has all cooking facilities including utensils. A help-yourself herb garden is a bonus. The showers are clean, with plentiful hot water. Automatic machines, (plus a hairdryer, mirror, and ironing board) are in the laundry. A large alfresco dining area is most appealing. The lounge is divided, one area to spend a quiet time with the Internet or reading a selection of books from the extensive library and the other has an adjacent attractive TV lounge with big comfy chairs. This is a small but well sheltered camp with some private sites. The housekeeping is excellent. Ask about diving at the Poor Knights or take in some of the good walks in the area. Close by are Whangarei Falls and the Canopy circle where you can see some mighty kauri trees. Your friendly hosts are Graham and Alison. All sites are from $18 per person, $9 for children.

Beside well-forested Mair Park, enjoy secluded sites, handy to town. A superette is
nearby. The grounds are well manicured and the fully tiled amenities block is centred
in the park. The kitchen is well equipped, including a range of cooking appliances.
The ablutions have been recently renovated to an excellent standard. A disability
suite is designed for easy access. In the laundry are excellent automatic machines,
plus ironing table. There is a small playground for the kids and a comfortable TV room offers cosy relaxation. Plenty of taps, outdoor lighting, a car wash and a
dump station here. Coin and wireless Internet are available. Your hosts are
Kevin and Linda Lloyd. All sites are from $22 per person, including some allweather
van sites.

DESCRIPTION:

Just a short hop from the intersection dividing Kaeo from Whangaroa, this
is a quiet, well-groomed pretty little retreat on the upper reaches of the
Whangaroa harbour. The grounds have 40 sites, well-wooded and sheltered,
and surrounded by native bush-clad hills. The amenities are modern with a
well-equipped kitchen and an adjoining glass screened area for casual meals.
This has a TV. There are excellent shower cubicles and automatic equipment
in the laundry. Two small indoor pools (one hot, one cold). This is a favourite
spot for fishing. Try your hand at catching marlin, or hire boats and dive gear. Camp sites are from $20 per person plus an extra $4 for power. Your host
is Dave.

Over the hill at the end of the road, overlooking beautiful Parutahi Bay. The
camping area is mostly flat, on varying grassy levels climbing slightly to the
rear, where there is a communal amenities building. The camp is right on the
beach front and well looked after. The ablutions are clean and tidy and the
laundry has washers and dryers. The kitchen is clean and has all you need. A
fish cleaning bench and a boat wash are provided and kayaks may be hired.
Bait and ice are available at the office that is shared with a shop, and stocks overnight essentials. All sites are $17 per person, $10 a child. Seasonal rates apply.

DESCRIPTION:

This tranquil waterfront camp is neat as a new pin, with modern amenities and
its own water treatment station. There are 93 level sites, all with power. The
waters-edge sites are very popular and the harbour beach offers safe swimming.
There are two separate small kitchens with hotplates and microwave cooking,
and fridge/freezers. The games room (with viewing decks to the harbour) has
a nice covered BBQ area annexed. The ablutions have two excellent disabled
facilities, a corridor of toilets and unisex showers. There is a new mothers
room designed so baby can be bathed and changed easily nad safely. The
laundry has good automatic equipment. Internet access is available. Plenty to
keep you occupied here, swimming, fishing, bushwalks, and Kayaks Goat Island
trips, Matakana markets and many other activities. Including a major Petanque
tournament at Easter. Excellent housekeeping here by your resident hosts,
Stan & Bridget. No animals please. Sites are $18 to $22 per person.

DESCRIPTION:

An historic coastal wilderness camp, accessible from Auckland via Titirangi and Huia, and within the bounds of the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. Turn right at Little Huia, and follow the winding road (partly unsealed) that leads
to Whatipu Lodge. Apart from the guest accommodation there is lots of space, no trees, and no power for the intrepid camper. You will have to be independent, as a minimal number of cold-water showers and toilets are the only camp amenities. Preferably bring your own drinking water. Fishing and walks are the major attraction here. Petrol is a 20 km drive away. Your host is Wayne.

DESCRIPTION:

Very well sign posted off State Hwy 10. This camp is nestled between some sheltering hills but has easy, level, shady or sunny sites. A lovely bay is immediately opposite the camp. Only a short drive to get supplies. The central amenities block has a well-kept new kitchen, with microwave, hotplate cooking, fridge and a TV. Nestled into a ferned rockery are picnic tables in a canopied BBQ garden. The ablutions were built for comfort, but have meters to conserve water. There are both single-sex appointments and a familysize wheelchair-friendly suite. The laundry has automatic washing machines and dryers, with freezer space too. During the peak season, each evening, takeaway meals are available only 5 minutes away. Get dive air fills here. Adump point is provided. Tours and charter boats can be arranged from here.  Concessions for weekly rates from May - October (does not include public holidays.)

A great spot to ‘fritter’ away some time, this simple little holiday camp is on a
terrace above the beach and picturesque Mokau River mouth. You’ll find cosy
camping at the rear of the café on 20 immaculate, level, lawn sites - all enclosed
with sheltering trees. Your hosts at the Inn sell groceries, cabinet food and meals.
Some postal facilities are also available. The camp kitchen is roomy with plenty
of appliances, some cookware and crockery. A pleasant TV lounge has a stash of
reading material. Clean showers and toilets include a disabled access unit and
the laundry facilities have coin-operated washing machines. Hosts are Clare and
Dave. A powered site will cost $15 per person per night. Non powered sites
$10 per person.

This older-style camp is lush with trees and has a scenic reserve on one
boundary. Just up from the beach and set back from the main road, it’s a
good spot to launch kayaks and paddle upstream or out to sea. The central,
well-used communal area has alfresco dining under a pergola with wood
and gas BBQs on hand. For the indoor cook, the older kitchen has stoves,
microwave, fridges, and opens to a cosy lounge with TV, internet kiosks, books
and a fireplace. The ablutions have ‘curtained-only’ showers ($2) and the small
laundry with automatic machines. Grant is the owner, and Charmaine will
book you in. Seasonal rates apply.

Between Opotiki and Motu at the junction of the Whitikau and Takaputahi
Streams is this basic remote campsite. Located at the entrance to Raukumara
Conservation Park it is a base for walks, fly fshing, mountain biking and hunting.
With space for around 16 tents, facilities include toilets, BBQ areas and water
supply from the stream.

A small, intimate campground, two minutes walk from where the Waitahanui
Trout fishing stream enters Lake Taupo. Campervan-friendly all year round
with 12 powered sites and several unpowered. Well-used camp amenities
include a kitchen with all the basics, free showers, toilets and a laundry. Your
hosts Richard and Sandy are to be found running the adjoining local dairy that
offers food, supplies and postal services. As this is ‘fisherfolk heaven’, you can
hire rods and waders and purchase tackle from them as well. Fish cleaning
and smoking facilities are provided. Campervan sites are from $35 for two.
Seasonal rates apply.
