Westshore Holiday Park is easy-to-find camp on the northern edge of Napier. Set in immaculate and mature gardens, the recent addition of a large, grassed recreational area at the rear of the camp behind the tent terraces is a real asset. There is a flying fox, Trampoline etc. . The camp comprises 70 sites (46 with power) and some all-weather van sites. Children have an enclosed, central play area and there is a pleasant covered dining area set aside for BBQs and socialising. There is a corridor-type kitchen with dining and TV at one end, plus a good selection of kitchen equipment. Two ablution blocks with metered showers have had a spruce-up (plus there is a children_s bath). An automatic laundry is available, as is bike hire and wireless internet. The tavern across the road or adjacent take-away are handy alternatives when it_s your night to cook! Your hosts are Dennis and Brenda.

DESCRIPTION:

The campground at Akitio is right next to the beach and rumbles with the sound of the sea. The amenities were clean and neat.

There is a small general store for the local residents and campers.

The campsite is mostly used by long-term residents, but there are powered sites available for casual visitors.

Fishing is clearly good, as there is a well-used fish cleaning area.

Well signposted and just off the highway 1 km north of Norsewood, is a lovely
little glade snuggled into a backdrop of bush. There is a rustic dining shelter,
rubbish collection, two basic flush toilets and an outside tap provided. The
water is not suitable for drinking. Do not light fires here. This is a council
facility for short-term camping. $2 per night.

Just 8 kilometres north of Napier, turn off the main Highway onto Hill Rd,
then turn left onto Patene Road. You will find this camp ground behind the
Bay View Hotel. Great surfcasting 5 minutes away. Central to the camp
is an octagonal service block with semi covered dining area with a fully
equipped covered outdoor kitchen, BBQ, laundry and unisex ablutions and
large showers with disabled access. There is a TV lounge with wifi internet,
and dump station. An onsite bar supplies meals and refreshments. Enjoy a

Beach Road Holiday Park is 45km from Waipukurau and is close to both the beach and river where swimming, surfcasting and water-skiing are popular pursuits. The grounds are level, with some gum trees for shade and plenty of permanents in residence. A mini putt course is near the office and there are BBQ and fish-cleaning facilities. The kitchen is open-plan and has TV, dining, books and easy chairs. The cooks corner has a full stove plus extra hot plates and microwaves. There is an outdoor BBQ area beneath a shade sail and a small children's playground. 5km up the road you will find a dairy in the village, a pub and a garage. You can hire kayaks and golf clubs here to explore the river or have a round of golf at the nearby course. The ablutions are roomy and have a separate disabled access suite. The laundry provides automatic machines. Your hosts are Roseanne and Don.

From the Cameron carpark you can walk to Kuripapaango Trig or Cameron Hut. Tramps to Kiwi Saddle, Kaweka Range, Kiwi Mouth Hut and Back Ridge are also available.

The route from the Cameron Carpark to the Cameron Hut follows the Ngaruroro River. It begins just upriver from the water gauge. As at least 30 fordings are necessary it can only be negotiated when the Ngaruroro River is not in flood.

Clifton Beach Reserve Motor Camp is right at the gateway to the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers, this beachfront camp is a popular spot with fisherfolk and surf lovers. A long narrow camp spread out along the seafront, where you can park up and enjoy the spectacular sea vistas. Situated at the roadend, entry is a barrier arm and there is a casual parking fee for daytrippers. With 155 mainly powered sites, and many permanent setups. There is an extension camp on the road before the office to cater for the busy season. The large kitchens have two stoves plus hotplates. Two blocks of ablutions offer free showers (hot water is turned off during the day in busy season). The automatic laundry equipment is plentiful. A dump station, outdoor showers, plenty of taps and rubbish bins are provided. The on-site shop has basic supplies and almost opposite is a very popular cafe, restaurant and bar. Hastings Top 10 Holiday Park is a charming, well-kept park adjacent to the Splash Planet water theme park and scenic Windsor Park. The grounds have a lovely, meandering stream with a duckpond, and the entire site has mature shady trees. The central amenities block is a feature, with a decked walkway around a garden. A smart TV lounge and dining hall are linked by a breezeway to the main kitchen. Cooking and sink areas are separate and there are banks of cold lockers available. You can cook indoors on gas rings and microwaves or outdoors in the adjoining BBQ garden which is nicely landscaped under a shade sail. 68km east of Dannevirke (or about the same distance from Waipukurau) is wide open space camping with some hedges and trees to shelter the sites. The campground caters for all campers. All ammenties are available -fully equiped kitchen and clean bathrooms along with a family paraplegeic bathroom. Fully equiped laundry with washers ($2) and dryer ($2). Showers 50 cents The beach is within walking distance. Boats can be launched, surf casting on the beach and children can fish off the bridge. Cape Turnagain has a seal colony and is an easy 45 minutes walk away. There are tennis courts at Wimbledon and a 9-hole golf course is next to the camp. Powered Sites $35 for 1 or 2 people per night , extra person $15, Non Powered $15 per person per night. DESCRIPTION:


Ideally placed for a midway stopover, about 60 km inland from Napier on
the Napier-Taihape road, is a newly opened DOC campsite. Just north of
Kiripapango, at the edge of the Forest Park, you can camp on a rambling site
on terraces above the Ngaruroro River. Camp across several grassy levels
in a bush-clad, steep-sided valley. Around 10 gravel hardstands are provided
on the upper terraces for campervans (no power), whilst on the lower levels
there are many great spots for tents amongst the bush and scrub. New ecotoilets are scattered about the camp and theres a bit of a steep walk down
to the river for your water supply! A popular spot for river rafting and fshing.
Camping costs $5 per night.

DESCRIPTION:

The Lake Waikaremoana track (located in the south-west corner of the 212,673 hectare Te Urewera National Park) is a 46 kilometre 3 to 4 day tramping track which follows the shore of the lake for most of its length. It is one of a network of great walks managed by DOC throughout New Zealand. Before you go you must book huts and campsites for everyone who is intending to do the walk. This includes those children and young people under 18 years who do not have to pay fees. Find out about fees and bookings. The walk traverses a range of terrain with many types of vegetation from the montane beech forest of the Panekire Bluffs to dense rainforest. Podocarp mixed broadleaf forest is dominant in many areas. Bird life in the area is abundant. A moderate tramp, with magnificent scenery and plenty of opportunity for swimming and fishing ensure the walk is well used throughout the year.

DESCRIPTION:

Mangatutu Hot Springs is a popular camping, picnic and fishing spot, and a starting point for tramping, hunting or day walks up the Mohaka River and further into the Kaweka Forest Park. There are barbecues, picnic tables and toilets located in secluded clearings among the manuka surrounds, and there are access tracks descending to the Mohaka River. The main feature here is the thermal springs. Thermal water issues from a deep, undercut, steaming hole on the top terrace. The water trickles down a riverside bluff and after a short way is channeled into two pools.

On SHwy 2, halfway between Gisborne and Opotiki, youll find a pleasant
campsite in the heart of the tiny town of Matawai. Look carefully for the
grassy camp area opposite the public toilets. An ideal stopover spot, there is
plenty of all-weather parking and turning space for large vehicles, boaties and
horse floats in the sealed yard beside the camp. The camping area enjoys
lovely rural views and has trees on the perimeter and a creek at the rear. The
smart amenities include a small homely kitchen with stove, fridge and rustic
built-in timber table and seats, plus a couch and a covered verandah. Across
the road are a country pub, squash and tennis courts. Explore the Waioeka
Gorge from here or take the old narrow coach road (Motu Road) to Opotiki.
Trout fishing and mountain biking are also popular activities in this area. Your
friendly hosts, ask you to book in advance. Tent sites are $15 per

A small, sheltered riverside campground between Wairoa and Gisborne on the
main coast road. Camp amongst the trees in a delightful landscaped, garden
setting, with room for 19 tents. There are no powered sites. The tearooms
are alongside and meals are available until 8pm (in summer). Across the road
are the Morere Hot Springs, with hot mineral pools and a scenic reserve. The
cosy, split-level camp kitchen is well-appointed, with small appliances, microwave
and fridge or use the outdoor BBQ area. Compact toilet and shower facilities
are available along with a small laundry. Enjoy a game of petanque on the
court beside the café garden. Wendy Swan and Trevor Steed will give you a

Pouawa Beach is located approximately 18km from Gisborne city. There is good swimming, fishing and diving.

Another camping area runs about 2km along the seafront under similar conditions to Waihau Beach. You can camp among the undulating sand dunes. Bring everything, including a chemical toilet. Very popular and busy in summer.

This is a restricted seasonal camping area, permit required.

DESCRIPTION:

Relaxed camping, as it used to be, on the banks of the Waipawa River. From SHwy 2, turn into Victoria Street and then Harker Street and drive to the end where you will find a quiet 6.5 acre park with a tranquil country setting and just a short walk from the town shops and services. The kids will appreciate the nearby skatepark, tennis courts and pool; along with the small on-site play area and nearby river swimming. The grounds have picnic tables with a large, shady grassed area for tents and 52 powered sites. The simple kitchen has space to linger and watch TV while you enjoy a meal. Showers are limited, but roomy. There are automatic washers and a dryer in the laundry. Friendly camping with your hosts, Paddy, Tess and Livi. Power sites and non powered sites all $15 per person. Kids 12 years and under are half price and 2 years and under are free.

The first Lake Waikaremaona campsite you hit driving from the Wairoa road end, it is 10 km south of the Waikaremoana Visitor Centre. A basic self registration campsite, it has been closed in the past due to an aquatic weed
infestation. Check with the Visitor Centre for its current status before camping here. This lakeside campsite offers toilets and a boat ramp and has room for about 6 tents. Water is available from the stream. Camping is free at this site.

This camp is part of the Gisborne Showgrounds on the southern approach to the city. Situated next to an 18-hole golf course, on 40 hectares of rural tranquillity, the 50 powered sites are large with ample room for even the largest motorhomes (dump station provided). The modern amenities block is kept spic and span. The kitchen has drink vending machines, electric and gas cooking, fridges and microwaves. Relax next door in the large dining area and lounge with TVs. Smart, modern, coin-operated showers, toilet and laundry are provided with facilities for disabled access. This beachfront camp is 14km north from the town clock in Gisborne, set between the highway and the sea. There are big shady trees scattered throughout the camp which covers 3.8ha and has an emphasis on catering for campers who are into their surfing, diving and fishing. Enjoy spectacular, uninterrupted ocean views from gently sloping grassy sites - matched with a handy boat ramp. There are tidy ablutions (including disabled access) with a laundry annex. The kitchen has all the necessary equipment including, BBQ, gas cooking and fridge freezers. There is unlimited free wifi available, but no cellphone coverage.

DESCRIPTION:

49 km south of Gisborne on the inl and Tiniroto Road to Wairoa youll find the
back-country life-style in a relaxed campground annexed to the community
hall. Look for the white-painted hall building just north of the Tiniroto Tavern.
The camp is in a peaceful area with level grounds amongst shady trees and
cow pats. Choose from sunny or shady spots with magnificent views. There are unlimited tent sites and 16 with power. The Community Centre building
offers a clean kitchen, ablutions and laundry facilities are available at the tavern.
A great childrens play area and a BBQ can be enjoyed and nearby the school
tennis courts and swimming pool may be used by arrangement. There are
swimming holes and waterfalls in the Ruakituri River. For those no cooking
nights the Tiniroto Tavern is a good choice, with full meals, takeaways and a bar.
Obtain the camp key from Colin Campbell at the Tavern. Powered sites $10,
tents $6 per person.

DESCRIPTION:

Tolaga Bay is an interesting area, steeped in history. The huge wharf beside
the camp was built in the 1920s and is said to be the longest concrete pier in
the southern hemisphere. Just south of the township, the camp has great sea
views and spectacular limestone bluffs. A big camp, it has 50 powered sites
and 100 tent sites spread across open grounds, a few shady sites can be found
around the perimeter. A mini-shop is open from December to the end of
February. The facilities are bright, clean and well maintained. There are two
separate ablution blocks providing great showers complete with piped music!
There is also a disabled access suite. The kitchen is clean with a ranchslider
leading to outside dining and BBQ area. There is an automatic laundry and
childrens playground. No pets here please. The car & boat wash and dump
point are for campers only. Your hosts are Mike and Trina Brooker. A tent site
costs $16 per person and a powered site, $18. per person with children aged
3 to 13 years costing $10.

A smart, holiday complex with direct access to the beautiful Waikanae Beach

Turn off SHwy 2 at Putorino into Waikare Road, and then travel for 20 minutes
on an unsealed road along the south bank of the Waikare River. At the road
end you will fnd a level, open site for basic camping that can accommodate 4
tent sites. Its ten minutes walk to the beach for fshing, swimming and boating
(including boat ramp). Facilities here are toilets, picnic tables and water from
a tap (that must be boiled before drinking)

The sealed road to Waimarama winds through rural hill country, 30 minutes drive from Havelock North. This large, flat, seaside camp has 30 caravan sites and 18 powered tent sites available, with the adjoining paddock used in peak periods. It is safe for children with one gate in and out. The golden, sandy beach is surf patrolled during the summer. From the camp it is a two minute walk to the domain and beach. The small and well-loved kitchen has gas cookers, microwave and fridge. The ablutions consist of two toilets and two coin operated showers (one with a shub/bath) each for men and women, plus a disabled access toilet. There is a small play area for toddlers. Three gas BBQs are available in an under-cover dining area. Your hosts are Karen and Ed who can be found at 15 Harper Street when the office is closed. Powered sites are $25 and un-powered $20 for adults, children (under 13) are half price and under 5s free.

This is a well signposted camp, 35 km north of Napier. Take the Tongoio Road loop from the Napier end and you'll find the road sealed all the way to the farm gate. The camp is set on a low plateau overlooking the bay and lagoon with bush-clad hills behind. The attractive golden sandy beach, is fairly sheltered, safe for swimming, has good fishing and is directly accessed from the camp. The lagoon is popular for small children. There are 16 power sites with taps and sumps around the grounds and plenty of room for tents. The kitchen provides 2 large freezers, a bait freezer and 2 glass door fridges, hotplates, an oven for cooking and small appliances. The bright ablutions include a disabled access/family suite and gas showers $1.00 for a six-minute shower. An automatic laundry and a dump point are provided. There is also a good sized dining/lounge area and a covered BBQ pagoda with seating and superb sea views. A kids play area is on site and bikes are welcome or head into one of the great bush walks. Bring supplies with you, as only basic items can be bought at the camp. Wireless internet is available. Please do not bring your dog. Your friendly hosts are Shane, Fay and family. The camp is hired out for weddings Mid-February to Mid-December. All sites are from $15 to $26 per adult (seasonal rates apply, site minimum during peak season). Eftpos available.

DESCRIPTION:

This is a newly refurbished camp where the entire interior of every building
on site has had a full makeover. You can fnd it just off SHwy 2, below the
bridge on the northern edge of Waipukurau. The somewhat-bare but level
grounds have some shade trees and the Tukituki River is just over the bank
for fshing and swimming. Only a short walk from the township means you
can easily stock up or have a meal out. Across the road is the towns heated,
indoor swimming pool. The camp has wireless internet available. A sparkly
new kitchen has cooking by microwave or hot plates and a fridge. Each
sink has its own set of knives and chopping boards and there is a good new
stock of cooking utensils, pots and pans. There is a dining alcove with TV and couch and infomation on the area, plus there will be alfresco dining with a covered area and gas BBQ by this summer. A new kids playground is on the agenda also. The toilet/shower blocks have been completely renovated and are spotless. A dump point is provided. Theres plenty of room for tenting and 26 sites have power. Your hosts are Ray & Adrienne who will look after you. All tent sites are from $20 person.

Wairoa is a pleasant riverside town within the sunshine belt of Hawke_s Bay. This delightful camp is tucked back from the road on level grounds beside the river and with a boat ramp nearby. Adjacent to the local sports complex and heated pool, shopping and dining are within easy walking distance. There are 112 sites (40 with power and own taps) on the carefully landscaped grounds, rich with planter boxes and shady trees. Quirky touches make this a memorable camp experience from the fairy lights in the trees, the novelty BBQ in the boot of a car, to the pink gingham bench frills in the _Ladies_ (blue in the Men_s!). The superb housekeeping is appreciated! An immaculate, spacious kitchen has everything you could need (including TV). The spotlessly-clean ablutions have metered showers and plenty of vanity space. There_s a well-equipped automatic laundry with washbasket and ironing facilities, a dump point and internet kiosks in the _playhouse_ by the office. You can be sure a warm welcome awaits you and your pets, from your hosts Sharron and Bill.

Waiwhenua Farmstay situated on the banks of the Tutaekuri River less than an hours drive west of Napier and Hastings. A short wind down through the farm and bush to the secluded river section with plenty of shade and shelter from the wind, right on the banks of the river. Limited freedom sites are also available for the casual overnight visitor. RV and car access is limited to the summer dry season however 4WD or AWD are recommended. The amenities include cold water taps, cold, or hot solar showers, gas camp cooking facilities, firewood, fire pits, long drop toilets, and bedding packs, plus a herb garden are available. You can hire, small tents, gazebos, and an outdoor bush bath. The full site can be booked for events and celebrations. To avoid disappointment bookings are recommended as sites are limited.
