DESCRIPTION:
On the rural outskirts of friendly Feilding, just 3km north of the town centre, is this older-style family camp. A handy location, with shopping 5 minutes down the road and Palmerston North only a 15-minute drive away. The camp has level sites, with a choice of gravel underfoot or plenty of grass beside the duckpond. The kids have a play-fort and trampoline amongst shady willow trees and there is a communal TV room. A modest and well-used kitchen has kettles, toasters basic crockery and cookware, a stove, hotplates, a fridge, freezer and extra-large sinks for all that washing-up after a slap-up BBQ in the outdoor dining area found off the kitchen. The ablutions are tidy and have a good disabled access suite. The laundry has all the basics and a dump point is provided. Your hosts are Colin and Wendy. Tent sites are $15 per person with children (5-14 years old) $8 or powered sites (and hard stands for vans) $20 per person with children (5-14 years old) $10.

walkway. Excellent surfing and patrolled swimming beach. Adjacent to 18-hole
golf course. If you have not been here for a while it is worthwhile checking
out all the new facilities. The kitchen has ceramic top cookers constant
hot water, microwaves and fridge/freezers, dining and deck areas. Access
to a family bathroom, and laundry with industrial auto washer and dryers.
Over 100 sites (powered and non-powered). Beautifully kept grounds and
friendly approachable staff to ensure a great stay. Features include built-in

Pay a visit to the Marine Reserve at Goat Island; explore the waters with
friendly, colourful fish. Just up the road from the beach there is a farm/camping
spot that enjoys sea views and caters for families, with a playground and lots
of areas to explore. There are a number of level camping areas, though only
8 sites with power. The main building houses a fully catered kitchen with all
utensils and other facilities, a lounge with TV and a pool table, tidy ablutions
with free hot showers and a porch laundry. The outside dining and BBQ area
are open to the elements. Here you can gather around the bonfire in the
evening. Dive gear can be hired. All sites are from $18

Midway between Rotorua and Taupo, on the busy SH 5, is this once proud camping ground. Unfortunately, it was looking a bit run down when we visited, it is to be hoped that the new owners do a bit of garden maintenance to get it back up to scratch. But if you don't want manicured lawns, this is an excellent base for the great trout fishing nearby. There are 21 power sites divided by boxed hedges, and a variety of tent sites - some down by the stream that
runs beside the camp. Bush tracks with boardwalks meander through the lower part of the camp giving an nice setting to the natural thermal hot pools provided free for people staying. There is a small kitchen with fridge and ovens,
and a TV room is available. The licensed restaurant is not open currently, but hoping to be back up and running soon. Laundry machines are available as is, a free gas BBQ.

Commanding an elevated spot overlooking the shores of Lake Taupo at Acacia Bay, this well-groomed park has around 80 sites, most with power, some hedged for privacy and well-shaded with established trees. Hosts William and Colleen have provided excellent facilities with many thoughtful extras to make a camper_s day. A bright and welcoming kitchen with dining area has hot plate and microwave cooking, fridge/freezer and two coin-operated ovens, along with utensils, crockery and cookware on hand. A comfy TV nook has easy chairs - or you can head to the separate games room decked out with more easy chairs, TV, pool table, arcade games and table hockey. The smart ablutions have free showers and lots of bathroom extras that include liquid soap, hand towels, hairdryer, a disabled access bathroom suite and a large laundry. Outdoors the children can burn off some energy on the in the playground while parents take a soak in the spa. A gazebo is provided with gas BBQs and timber-slab banquet table for outdoor dining. Get your basic supplies at the camp store or pop back into town just a few minutes away. Boat ramps are nearby, there are fish cleaning facilities and a dump station are provided for residents only, as well as internet kiosks and wifi. All sites are from $19 per person. Seasonal rates apply and bookings are essential.

The best of the relaxed kiwi camping experience can be found in historic Greytown. Tucked into the well-wooded Kuratawhiti Park, camp amongst the Totara trees on level, long-established, grounds with a tranquil rural aspect. Only a short walk to the lively town centre with cafes and boutique shopping, there are 61 tent sites and 34 sites with power. In the centre of the camp is a picnic and BBQ garden area. Tennis courts, an outstanding playground and the town swimming pool are just next door to keep the kids entertained. The two combined kitchen/ablutions blocks have been refurbished with all new whiteware and appliances. There are a female and male shower and toilet with wheelchair access and a laundry with coin-operated autowashers. A recycle station is available. No eftpos is available. Please bring cash.

This resort has a spectacular beachfront location, with island-studded ocean views and the famous pink and white sands of Hahei beach. An easy walk to Cathedral Cove and marine park. The resort's mature and well-wooded grounds have 300 sites, around half with power. The hill-top, beachfront campervan sites have incomparable views and come with their own picnic tables and clotheslines. In the camper's kitchen are fridges, microwave and hob cooking. There is a resort store on site and a village shopping centre close by. Three well-cleaned blocks of ablutions have roomy, timed showers, and baths (including a baby's bath). There is a central covered laundry area, and it has a free air pump for airbed inflation! The breezeway area has clotheslines and opens to a drying room. In another building is a comfy TV room. After a successful day's fishing, use the fish-cleaning facilities, BBQs and outdoor shellfish boilers. Paid wireless internet is available. An enjoyable suburban motor camp, thoughtfully laid-out in a u-shape, but without the glitz of some of the bigger urban camps. You can relax under avenues of shady trees, on box-hedged, sheltered sites that lie well to the sun. 38 sites have power, most have taps and there is plenty of room for tents. An awesome double-storey playhouse and slide will be a hit with the kids. There is a compact kitchen with fridge/freezer, gas stoves and hobs and a selection of small appliances. The modern ablutions have roomy, free showers and two separate disabled access/family bathroom suites. Extras include a drinks vending machine and TV lounge, along with an internet kiosk. An automatic laundry (with soap vending machine) and a dump station is provided. As this is a busy urban camp, it is wise to pre-book all year round.

Holdsworth Lodge is situated on a large grassy area surrounded by native forest. There are a number of short walks and good fishing in the Atiwhakatu River year round and swimming in the summer.
This lodge is ideal for families and groups, and can also be used for the first night of a tramp into the Tararua Forest Park.
Camping in the proximity of the lodge is only available to guests who have booked a bunk or room and would prefer to camp, or to a group who have booked the entire lodge (sole occupancy) and have extra people they want to add to the booking.
Up to 17 campers can be booked. This allows for 45 guests in a group for any given booking – 28 in the lodge and 17 extra campers

Overlooking Home Bay, the campsite is near the Reid Homestead built in 1901. A stroll up through regenerating bush to the Northern Junction (via the Rotary Centennial Loop Track) and you can explore various WWII military remains including the battery which defended Auckland's harbour.

Nestled into native bush, with brand new modern facilities providing free showers, with wheelchair access, a large spacious kitchen with gas hobs, ovens, fridges, microwaves, toasters and hot water on tap. There is a coin operated laundry with dryers and washing machines. A TV room with Freeview, and internet kiosk with wireless is available for a small fee. The ablution and kitchen areas are adjoined to a spacious inner courtyard. Here a large screen TV offers Sky, Sport, a Cartoon Network, UKTV and a variety of other channels for your enjoyment. The park is being added to almost continuously, 6 showers have been added this summer. You can fish, kayak, swim, surf, dive, set off on a day trip to Cathedral Cove and back, maybe dig your own hot pool, or enjoy the local cafes. Your hosts are Sheree and Grant. Bump along 90 mile beach for 8km on an unsealed road, the camp is set a little
way back from the beach. Enjoy the amazing sunsets and just a short distance to Cape Reinga; so good for fishing. Surrounded by sand dunes with a view of the sea. Open for camping and can take large vehicles. The ablutions are modern with hot and cold showers. Besides the flush-toilet there are also an eco composting toilet. The indoor and out-door kitchen has good running water, a fridge and gas cookers. Camping sites start from $20 per person. Your host is Gabi Pfaender.

As you pass through Huntly, look for the TransitNZ camp signs on the northern outskirts. Nestled on the shores of Lake Hakanoa (not suitable for swimming), lies a delightful small camp, hidden away from the passing traffic. On the grassy banks overlooking the lake are 49 sites with power and plenty of room for tents. Well-groomed and level, they come with their own friendly Pukeko who live in the lake-edge wetlands. A nearby domain offers pleasant gardens, the town swimming pool and an excellent playground for children. Enjoy a loop walk round the lake to the ‘Green Cathedral’. The amenities are immaculate and have free showers. The kitchen has plenty of bench space, cooking appliances and some crockery and cutlery. An automatic laundry and dump point are provided. The camp can accommodate large vehicles. Your friendly hosts are Carol and Dave Franks.

The Hunua Ranges encompass more than 14,000 hectares of native forest featuring four water catchment reservoirs, tramping tracks, mountain biking,
amazing scenery, fishing, swimming pools and waterfalls. The Hunuas are also
the site of Auckland’s only mainland kokako population and refuge to the
Hochstetter’s frog. Charges for the five campsites are $6 for adults and $4 for
children. These are remote sites with areas for tenting, basic toilets and water
(always boil first). No dogs or fires are allowed at these sites. There are also
two designated areas for self-contained vehicles. Annual passes are available.
There are no rubbish bins provided so please take out all rubbish when you
leave.

Just as you reach the eastern edge of this quiet little beach town, turn left into Forest Road and aim for the camp named after the local shipwreck! Although not a beachfront camp, it offers an attractive setting with 50 powered sites
and around 30 tent sites. The grounds are level, with sites grouped together around their own waste disposal points. A great location for those who want to work off some energy in the nearby Domain skating rink, tennis courts or swimming pool. The camp has its own games hall and smart swimming pool, with a toddler’s pool operating in the busy season. The children’s play equipment is imaginative and challenging. The smart little kitchen has all the necessary equipment including a microwave. An attractive ablution block has hand driers and soap provided and there are automatic machines in the laundry. A dump station is provided. Pet friendly by arrangement.

As the name suggests, this camp looks directly over to White Island, with absolute beach access to stunning Waiotahi Beach which is just 5 km from Opotiki, en-route to Whakatane. Adjacent to its sandy shores there are

open or shady areas. The offce/shop sells basic supplies during peak holiday
times. The kitchen has stoves, microwave cooking and fridge/freezer and the adjacent alfresco dining area is under cover. There are free showers in the ablutions which have plentiful hot water and homely touches. An automatic laundry, gas BBQ’s and dump station are provided. Situated on a farm, 1 km east of Waitomo village, this backpackers hostel offers
convenient camping around it’s pleasant, elevated grounds. There are some
stunning campsites (4 with power), with great views out over the Waitomo
Valley. All the facilities, including internet access, are in the lodge. Designed
to capture the views and the sun, the lodge has a wrap-around deck with BBQ
and outdoor dining space or dine alfresco using one of the timber-slab picnic
tables dotted around the grounds. There is a swimming pool, tennis court,
basketball court, and a very relaxed atmosphere - with various farm animals
