The campground at Akitio is right next to the beach and rumbles with the sound of the sea. The amenities were clean and neat.

There is a small general store for the local residents and campers.

The campsite is mostly used by long-term residents, but there are powered sites available for casual visitors.

Fishing is clearly good, as there is a well-used fish cleaning area.

All their camping sites have access to water and power.
Back this up with the other great activities, games room, and entertainment area including BBQ's, trampoline and sandpit for the children and TV / Reading Room and you are very well served for your stay. There is also an easy-access dump station on site.
The Himatangi Beach is 2 minutes away together with the local dairy (which has great coffee) and the local Cosmopolitan Club. The beach is patrolled during the summer months with one of the largest sand dune regions in the Southern Hemisphere.

DESCRIPTION:

Situated above the mouth of the Waimakariri River, with a walkway from the camp to the river, this beautifully manicured park is a great spot. There is a village of well-settled caravans, immaculately presented with attractive mini-gardens. A large area has been set apart for casual campers, with views out to the hills and river. Hedged with pittisporums, and with water on each site, they are a great place to park. A bright, cheerful stainless steel kitchen and ablutions block is in this area, as well as an older one further down, all spotless and well kept, and all have been recently upgraded. The laundry has good auto equipment and your hosts are Bronwyn and Alan Waters.

A tent site will cost you $15 per person or with power $18. Unpowered sites are available at a discount for NZMCA members.

Kaupokonui Beach Motor Camp is located on Kaupokonui Heads Road – Off Lower Glenn Road, Manaia.

Kaupokonui is a beautiful unique setting with many original kiwi baches surrounding the campsite and lower reserve. It is a very family friendly place and well worth the trip. The campground boasts recently renovated cabins, 1 cabin sleeps up to 5 and a big family cabin that can sleep up to 7. There are also 26 powered sites and unpowered sites. There is a small shop that opens during the summer that provides basic necessities. Also available; children’s play area, river for swimming and fishing – as well as a safe swimming area in the sea and surf beach.

DESCRIPTION:

The sealed road to Waimarama winds through rural hill country, 30 minutes drive from Havelock North. This large, flat, seaside camp has 30 caravan sites and 18 powered tent sites available, with the adjoining paddock used in peak periods. It is safe for children with one gate in and out. The golden, sandy beach is surf patrolled during the summer. From the camp it is a two minute walk to the domain and beach. The small and well-loved kitchen has gas cookers, microwave and fridge. The ablutions consist of two toilets and two coin operated showers (one with a shub/bath) each for men and women, plus a disabled access toilet. There is a small play area for toddlers. Three gas BBQs are available in an under-cover dining area. Your hosts are Karen and Ed who can be found at 15 Harper Street when the office is closed. Powered sites are $25 and un-powered $20 for adults, children (under 13) are half price and under 5s free.

DESCRIPTION:

An 8 km drive through coastal dairy country from SHwy 3 at Waverly leads to
this pleasant rustic camp just over the dunes from the beach. Local attractions nearby are ‘Cave Rock’ and fishing. The 28 powered sites are on a grassy paddock edged with flaxes, leaving plenty of room for tents. To the rear of the camp is a great playground for the kids. The main building includes a
serviceable kitchen and a simple recreation/dining hall and there are outdoor wood BBQs. The older-style ablutions are tidy and kept locked when there are no guests.

The code to access facilities can be obtained from the Waverley LibraryPlus office 9 - 5 Monday to Friday and Saturdays 9.30am - 12pm where camp fees are also paid. $15 per night per powered site or $10 for tents (this covers 2 adults and 2 children on a site).
