This colourful beachfront camp just north of Mokau township is perched right next to the black sand beach, nicely sheltered by dunes and shrubbery. The camp is traditional style and family friendly., Its river mouth locality offers a choice of freshwater and sea fishing, as well as whitebaiting. Or you can enjoy a long walk on the 3km stretch of beach between Awakino and Mokau Rivers. The camp has over 60 powered sites and plenty of room for tenting. The well-loved facilities include a bright, but small, kitchen/dining area with TV, which opens to an outdoor dining deck and BBQ. Hotplate or microwave cooking and a fridge/freezer are provided. There is a fish cleaning area for you to prepare your catch. The main ablutions have token-operated showers plus there is an extra toilet block for the far reaches of the camp. A laundry annex at the rear of the main block has automatic washers and a dryer. Plenty of taps means only a short walks to fill up with water. A dump station is available. Kaupokonui Beach Motor Camp is located on Kaupokonui Heads Road – Off Lower Glenn Road, Manaia.

Kaupokonui is a beautiful unique setting with many original kiwi baches surrounding the campsite and lower reserve. It is a very family friendly place and well worth the trip. The campground boasts recently renovated cabins, 1 cabin sleeps up to 5 and a big family cabin that can sleep up to 7. There are also 26 powered sites and unpowered sites. There is a small shop that opens during the summer that provides basic necessities. Also available; children’s play area, river for swimming and fishing – as well as a safe swimming area in the sea and surf beach.

A great spot to ‘fritter’ away some time, this simple little holiday camp is on a
terrace above the beach and picturesque Mokau River mouth. You’ll find cosy
camping at the rear of the café on 20 immaculate, level, lawn sites - all enclosed
with sheltering trees. Your hosts at the Inn sell groceries, cabinet food and meals.
Some postal facilities are also available. The camp kitchen is roomy with plenty
of appliances, some cookware and crockery. A pleasant TV lounge has a stash of
reading material. Clean showers and toilets include a disabled access unit and
the laundry facilities have coin-operated washing machines. Hosts are Clare and
Dave. A powered site will cost $15 per person per night. Non powered sites

Turn off SH3 onto Pukearuhe Road, and travel 6kms to Beach Road to find
this beachside retreat including a seasonal cafe with lovely outdoor area, a 6
hole golf course, a tennis court, a large recreation room with pool table, table
tennis Clean communal kitchen and toilets, and a laundry. Explore nearby
White Cliffs Walkway, go fishing or swim in the ocean. There are 12 hedged,

Just north of Urenui, look for the blue TransitNZ camp signs to the wellmanicured
seaside holiday village that marks the entrance to this camp. Right
beside the golf course and Urenui River mouth, this is a busy park with a choice
of attractive sites, some by the water’s edge, 133 with power and 30 or so for
tents. There’s a great playground for the kids, or enjoy the natural beauty of
the river and ocean. Takeaways are available at the on-site general store selling
all the necessary supplies. The two amenities blocks are simple but clean, with
key access to the showers. The kitchens offer a range of cooking options and
fridge/freezers and the laundries are well equipped. No dogs please. Your

powered sites are $42 for two adults.

 A spectacular location, wrapped around the
sheltered Onaero River mouth and surrounded by bush. Its great outdoor
environment, along with limited cellphone coverage, means this is the
ideal spot to get away from it all! Just 11.5km north of Waitara, the
layout of the camp is very user-friendly, with 57 level power sites
and 30 tent sites scattered across well-manicured grounds. The pretty
beach is safe for swimming, has good fishing and whitebaiting and
views out to the offshore drilling rig on the horizon. Three kitchens
mean plenty of room for all and a small shop is onsite for snacks. The
amenities are excellent. The laundries have drying facilities and a

Tucked a little back from the beach, but with easy access, this mature and tidy
camp has a perimeter of large shelter trees and the wide, open spaces of
Marine Park next door. There are a number of well established permanent
house buses and similar but travelling campers are accommodated in separate,
uncluttered areas with tall, hedged borders and plenty of room to move. The
rustic outdoor wood-fired BBQ has some nice plantings and leads into the
serviceable and well-scrubbed kitchen. The ablutions are clean and well lit.
The laundry has coin-operated machines and a dump point is provided. Pets

Some 18km north of Whangamomona, turn east into Raekohua Road, (6km of unsealed road) takes you past the Tangarakau ghost town, to an historic backcountry farm experience. The camp is situated above the Tangarakau River in a lush green valley dotted with trees. This spot is very peaceful and definitely _away from it all_, with homegrown Manuka and Rewa honey available to sample or buy There are six powered sites, plus heaps of tent sites.
