DESCRIPTION:
About 6 km south of Waiouru, turn west off SHwy 1 towards Rangiwaea
Junction. About 20 minutes drive along this road you’ll fnd the established
gardens at Wakarua Farm. Visit here in the spring for the beauty of the
gardens, but don’t expect a full-on holiday camp. Limited provision has been
made for mobile homes with 5 powered sites (tents are also welcome). There
is a toilet and shower attached to the farmhouse but no kitchen facilities. For
further information, contact the owner Cynthia Collier. All sites $7 per person.

Walking distance to the Turangi shops and eateries, this large complex has expansive park-like grounds, purpose-built roads and multi-unit accommodation block buildings. Located 20 mins from the end of the Tongariro Crossing, it is a popular choice for all kinds of travellers. Powered & non-powered campsites are available with use of the communal camp kitchen and dining area, equipped with all the essentials. BBQ tables outside invite campers to enjoy the outdoors and provide more dining space. Campers can choose to camp close to the kitchen and shared bathroom facilities. There are hardstands for motorhomes and campervans as well. WIFI is available on-site. Laundry facilities and a dump station are also available for guests. Non powered sites start at $19 per person and Powered Sites are $50 for two people. Backpacker rooms are also available during the cooler months to provide a little more protection from the elements.
