If your priorities are comfort, easy parking and squeaky-clean facilities, you will find them here. the closest camping ground to the city, the sites are in private bays with gravel, and taps are plentiful. Each van spot has a small lawn and are separated by beautiful trees that overhand the sites. The small grassed area for tents is well landscaped, but book ahead if you have a large tent. A good kitchen has all appliances with an adjacent outside dining area and BBQ. A card phone, comfortable TV room with Sky and internet area are here for your enjoyment. The excellent ablutions have good free showers and a complete disability/family suite is also available. The laundry has plenty of equipment including auto washers, dryers and iron. Enjoy the adventure playground for the children and a dump station is available. Your hosts are Peter, Benju and Jim and all sites are from $40 for two people.

DESCRIPTION:

Located 8km north of Murchison, this beautifully landscaped camp borders
the Buller river. All hard stands with good sized sites for buses and a level
grassed camping area for tents down by the river where you will not be
crowded. A modern central facilities block has a wraparound veranda for
outside seating, and includes a kitchen and dining area with TV, hob, microwave
cooking, all utensils and cutlery. The ablutions have good showers and toilets
with a disability/family suite and a laundry with auto machines. All amenities
are modern, clean and tidy, there are BBQs here and a dump point too for
quests only. Enjoy a dip in the river or try your hand at fishing, rafting, kayaking
or explore the bike trails and walking tracks in the area. Relax and have a
game of petanque or pavement draughts, there is also a chip and putt course,
volleyball, and croquet available. Your host is Karen Steadman, who also
provides seasonal veges and free range eggs from the office.

A large camp with spacious sites, this is right on the edge of a sweeping beach with a boundary of sheltering trees. Roughly 240 sites are available, and you will awake to the sound of the waves on the beach. There is an easy boat ramp and a 7-day store. Two service blocks with modern kitchens and dining have all facilities; tiled ablutions, disability suites and laundries. Two other ablution blocks are within the grounds, and a Sky TV lounge has internet access. All facilities are spotlessly clean, bright and airy, and there is a good supply of outdoor taps, as well as a car wash and dump station. Directly across the road are several restaurants and bars, or sit at one of the lovely outdoor covered dining areas and cook on the BBQs provided. This is a well-maintained park with a children's playground and your hosts are Del and Brent Clarke. All sites from $20 per person. Minimum and seasonal rates apply.

On the direct route to Tasman National Park, is this small camp with a big heart.

There are 23 power sites and 20 for tents with a variety of shaded and sunny
sites including large open paddock areas and room for larger vehicles. Drop
into the homely retro kitchen where a fuel-burning stove, an electric range
and microwave are provided, as well as all utensils. You can pick the free herbs
growing outside for your meal and eat under the veranda. Level grounds make
a great play area for the children, and a good selection of books and magazines
can be borrowed from the games and dining area. Good modern ablutions
have free unisex showers, the laundry has an automatic washer and dryer
and wireless internet is available. Close to the Wangapeka, Mt. Arthur and
Shedwood tracks, good fishing, and in winter the Nelson Lakes ski fields are
not too far away. Your pet and children friendly hosts are Tina and Colin Ball.
Sites are $17 per adult, children aged 5-14 are $8, under 5 are free.

DESCRIPTION:

This must be the most family friendly camp ground in the South Island, it looks like an amazing place to stay. Large sites on flat land with mature trees - some have gorgeous wooden swinging seats hanging from them for parents to sit and keep an eye on the children enjoying themselves in the adventure playground. The huge area has defined camping areas with a couple of central amenity blocks, one of which is brand spanking new. The first block has a clean, tidy kitchen with all amenities, laundry, toilet and shower block (with wheelchair access) and a phone. The second (new) block has toilets, showers and an outdoor kitchen dishwashing area.

There are lots of amazing outdoor activities for children is their specialty, with too many to list... although we will give it a go! There is a safe river with swimming holes, a skate park, waterslide and a confidence course with a flying fox to name just a few attractions. The children's summer programme includes go-carts and mini bikes (bring your own), orienteering, and an on-site shop sells basics.

This camp has been created by the Quinney family with a Christian emphasis and caters for large groups.

Totaranui is a large campground next to the clear waters and golden sands of Totaranui beach and backed by an estuary. It's a great base for activities - relax on the beach, swim, kayak, fish or explore the nearby stands of native bush by walking one of the many tracks. The Abel Tasman Coastal Track can also be accessed from here. Dogs and other domestic pets (e.g. cats and caged birds) are not permitted.

DESCRIPTION:

A well presented camp with trees and shrubs surrounding the grounds, new
plantings and local artwork placed around the camp. The TV lounge and
recreation room is tidy and has table tennis, a pool table and an internet
station. There are two kitchens with plenty of gas hobs and usual appliances.
One opens to a covered dining area, and the second kitchen is combined with
a games room. There is an attractive swimming pool with chairs for relaxing, and two BBQ areas. You can go kayaking or horse riding in the area or just
relax under a shady tree. There are 20 powered sites available, and 15 non-powered, and wifi is available.  This camp is at the halfwat point on the Great
Taste bike trails and your hosts are Jo and Tony. Sites are from $15 per person,
$18 for a powered site.
