In the heart of vineyard and fruit-bowl country, this camp is 6km from Blenheim and 10mins to the Picton Ferry. On one boundary are campsites along the stream bank, the grounds are open and well-kept with tree boundaries, and more trees have been planted for shelter. There are around 70 power sites, some with hard stands. The ablutions are basic and with a charge for the showers. Two kitchens are well equipped with full stoves, and the TV room has a pool table and table tennis for your enjoyment. Cool off in the swimming pool, or enjoy the children’s playground. room for about 14 tents in a grassy area beside the lodge. Campers can
access the lodge restaurant for meals and fabulous Pizzas. You can use the
fully equipped lodge kitchen, hot showers, and flush toilets. Pick-up from the
Great Barrier Island’s Tryphena wharf and Claris airport is by arrangement.
The office and reception is open 9am-12.30 and 6pm-7.30pm. Camping costs

Notes on the following Department of Conservation Campsites on Great
Barrier Island:
The DOC campsites on the island are all in beautiful coastal settings and
adjacent to important wildlife habitats for endangered birds such as the Brown
Teal and Banded Rail. Please do not bring your domestic pets. Cooking
fires are permitted in fireplaces provided at Akapoua and The Green only.
For this reason bring your own portable gas or spirit fuel cookers. No
alcohol is permitted at the campsites. Rubbish may be managed during the
peak summer period only, so ‘pack-in-pack-out’ at all other times. Please do
not disturb stock and shut all gates behind you. To avoid disappointment,
prior booking, registration and payment of fees are essential before arrival.

Tāhuna Beach Holiday Park is located 4.5 kilometres from Nelson city centre and adjacent to the long white sands of Tāhunanui Beach. It covers 54 acres of parkland with 1km of shorefront that has been available for almost 100 years for holidaymakers to enjoy. Today Tāhuna Beach Holiday Park offers accommodation that suits every holidaymakers’ and travellers’ budget – from unpowered and powered campsites (around 600 sites) to cosy cabins and modern, fully self-contained motel units (89 accommodation units). The Holiday Park’s location gives you direct access to the beach, playing fields and local beachside attractions. On-site, there are several recreation areas, including beach volleyball, basketball, several playgrounds, a pétanque and an 18-hole mini-golf course, a giant bouncing pillow and an outdoor amphitheatre for live music and other events. This small family-friendly camp is across the road from a safe swimming harbour and 10 minutes walk to a surf beach. The 25 sites are in a pleasant setting with a hedged perimeter, and some sites are among sheltered trees and set back from the road. Facilities include, a kitchen with modern appliances and fridge, ovens etc. This opens out to a pleasant outdoor dining table area complete with TV lounge, an automatic laundry, tidy tiled ablutions with metered showers and two disabled access toilets. A lovely camp with beautifully manicured grounds, this camp is the closest to
town but in a quiet area. With 27 large power sites and 10 smaller sites, the
permanents are based at the front on hard surface, while lovely landscaped
grass and rapidly growing trees are provided for casuals at the back. The allin-one
toilet and shower units are plentiful, well-kept, and spotlessly clean, one
building houses a disability suite. There is a separate kitchen, dining and laundry
at the rear end of the camp that provides all that you need. The kitchen has
cook tops and a fridge, and the outside covered dining area leads on to a nice
shaded area with BBQs as well as a herb garden. There is internet access and
pets are allowed, but not during the main holiday times please. Your hosts are

Absolute beachfront camping, right next to the water - with superb views of Rangitoto Island. The busy Takapuna shopping centre is just a block away, the local beach reserve and boat ramp are next door and there's a new modern cafe at the camp entrance. The camp area is quite open, but the growing palm trees add a tropical touch. The large outdoor deck alongside the kitchen has a gas BBQ, space for dining and spectacular views! The kitchen is powered by gas and has a microwave and plenty of fridge space. A large laundry offers automatic equipment and an ironing board. The ablutions are starting to date, with plenty of mirrors and roomy shower cubicles, including a disabled access suite. A key combination system operates for access to these services (code available from the office). On the direct route to Tasman National Park, is this small camp with a big heart.
There are 23 power sites and 20 for tents with a variety of shaded and sunny
sites including large open paddock areas and room for larger vehicles. Drop
into the homely retro kitchen where a fuel-burning stove, an electric range
and microwave are provided, as well as all utensils. You can pick the free herbs
growing outside for your meal and eat under the veranda. Level grounds make
a great play area for the children, and a good selection of books and magazines
can be borrowed from the games and dining area. Good modern ablutions
have free unisex showers, the laundry has an automatic washer and dryer
and wireless internet is available. Close to the Wangapeka, Mt. Arthur and
Shedwood tracks, good fishing, and in winter the Nelson Lakes ski fields are

This is a great family orientated camp ground within walking distance to
the heart of Picton. Set at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, the land
is terraced with immaculately landscaped grounds and smart tiled ablutions
centrally placed. Grass and sealed sites are all amply supplied with taps and
facilities are excellent and plentiful. The combined kitchen and dining has a
TV room right next door, there are family ablution facilities, and two separate
laundries. The middle area in the camp is the social hub with a BBQ and
seating area under the gazebo, a solar heated swimming pool (closed in
winter), a children’s play area, and lots of outdoor seating. There is a good
range of indoor entertainment if the weather turns bad, as well as a spa pool.
Free wifi and a dump station are available, but dogs are by arrangement and only in the off season please.

There are big shady trees scattered throughout the camp which covers 3.8ha and has an emphasis on catering for campers who are into their surfing, diving and fishing. Enjoy spectacular, uninterrupted ocean views from gently sloping grassy sites - matched with a handy boat ramp. There are tidy ablutions (including disabled access) with a laundry annex. Set beside the Whanganui River, nestled amongst the native trees, this delightful camp is about 4km south of Taumarunui. Spacious sites, around 30 with power and many more for tents, the camp has great eye-appeal at a great price. All facilities are basic, but clean and very tidy. Of special mention is the well established kitchen and herb garden, Happily independent and a park with personality there brochure says, and that is what you will find. Everything you need is provided in the kitchen, with plenty of seating for dining, and a nice patio outside with BBQs. Follow the signposts from S Hwy 10. There is 11km of sealed road to Taupo Bay. The level lawn sites are partially shaded by trees and lead through to a stunning beach. A well stocked general store is open all day during the holiday season and at weekends but just odd hours in the off season. Eftpos service and a coffee machine are available. The kitchen is roomy with plenty of refrigerator space. There are hot plates and microwaves for cooking while outside is a covered dining area with a BBQ. Here you can sit and watch your children on the play equipment. You’ll find a comfortable carpeted TV lounge where videos are freely available. The ablutions have ample toilets and metered, curtained showers, with liquid soap at the basins. The laundry has automatic washers and dryers. Boats up to 22ft can be launched from here. the bustle of the main tourist strip. This well-tended camp has around 70
sites. most are hedged and dotted with shady silver birch trees and plenty of
picnic tables. The excellent amenities include a sparkling kitchen and dining
area, electric hob cooking, basic cookware, fridge/freezer and lunch bar. A
lovely central flagstone quadrangle has gas BBQ and rustic timber-slab picnic
tables under shade sails. On cooler days head indoors for the TV room,
carpeted and cosy, or the well-equipped games room. Make the most of the
fresh air with the pleasant outdoor thermal pool and children’s playground.
The smart ablutions are light and bright, with excellent showers, a family and

beach that borders the camp. A boat ramp is nearby. From the camp you

store all year with good summer stock. Internet is available. The 150 level sites

If you are looking for the tranquillity of a remote camp bounded by a variety
of beaches and endless open spaces in harmony with pockets of native bush,
you will enjoy this park. From Warkworth, carry on to Matakana, from here
the park is well sign-posted. Towed caravans are not permitted. This is a lovely
drive and the roading within the park is good. There are delightful picnic spots
and room for 260 campers within the two designated areas. The east campground
is for tents only, and the west campground is for all forms of camping.

Numerous sites scattered in an abundance of old trees, edging the large playing
field. There are 16 power sites at the end of a circular drive, behind the
council swimming pool. Old facilities but adequate for what is needed, the
kitchen/dining includes a fridge and a full stove. The ablutions are in good
order, while the laundry has an automatic washing machine and dryer, both
free of charge. A well-kept camp with a modern children’s playground, or take
a swim in the indoor pool complex that is alongside. A dump point is provided,
but the facilities are kept locked, keys are provided on arrival. This camp is
administered by the Clutha District Council, but there is an onsite caretaker
who won’t be far away. Powered sites are $15 per person, tent sites are $13

This large, nicely landscaped and secure park is on the fringe of Fiordland. The grounds are terraced up from the lake with 150 power sites, 100 tent sites and the occasional pine tree. A local shuttle service operates to the walking tracks. The modern kitchen/dining lounge is smart and has energy friendly lighting and all up to date equipment, and you can dine outside while overlooking the lake. The other kitchen/dining is a big dual entry room, with hob cooking, microwave, tables & chairs. An excellent commercial laundry will be welcomed by both wet holidaymakers and skiers, and there is a good supply of toilets and showers that are spotlessly clean. A spa and paraplegic unit are opened as required, and an adventure playground and boat ramp are available. Next to reception is ‘Tracknet’ which offers information on the area, walking tracks and can book your tours.

This is a beautifully laid out camp in the heart of Te Anau, walking distance
from the shopping centre. With a child proof fence enclosing the grounds,
and a kangaroo jumper, it is a safe and fun place for families to bring their
children. There is a luxurious lounge with a mammoth TV plus computers
for internet access. The kitchen has all necessary facilities, but no pots/pans/
cutlery etc. The dining area has circular wooden tables that look out over
the children’s playground. The ablution blocks are spotless with auto sensor
heating and a unisex disability unit, while the laundry is fully automated.
Throughout the camp the lighting is auto sensing so no searching for those
elusive light switches! The landscaped sites have been developed amongst

Look for this park at the foot of the hill, just after you leave Hicks Bay. The
grounds are lush with shady trees and a short walk over the bridged stream,
through the paddock and you are down on the beach. Sites are level with
plenty of taps. The on-site store is well-stocked and has a full liquor licence,
open from 7am till 7pm. There are 80 tent sites, 38 with power. Sea kayaks
and mountain bikes are available for hire and the area is great for a swim,
surf, or fish. Outdoor camp lighting is minimal (good for stargazing) so make
sure you bring a torch. The kitchen has individual preparation areas and
conventional cooking. The basic ablutions have vanity areas and good, roomy
showers. There is an automatic laundry and a car wash is provided. Please
note, drinking water here should be boiled. An on-site food caravan operates
in peak times. There is an on-site shop, bottle store and diesel filling station

to the east, head south along the road to Matamata from Te Aroha. You’ll
spot the entrance flags of the holiday park not far out of town on your left.
Amongst mature oak trees. this park features hanging bridges, treehuts, giant
swings and the longest flying fox in New Zealand’s holiday park. Bush-clad
hills rise above you in the distance and the grounds are dotted with stately
old oak trees. A deep artesian spring supplies the camp with mineral water
and feeds the ‘rock pool’ thermal bath available free to campers. Enjoy the
grass tennis court, swimming pool and BBQs. In a quiet setting, the camp
is enclosed by farmland with provision for grazing if you are travelling with

The colourful gardens are prolifc, with hedges and trees and the beach is just

equipped kitchen has boiling water on tap. The bright, clean ablution block
has metered showers. In the laundry there is commercial equipment and a
freezer. Fish-cleaning and smoking facilities are on-hand and permits for boat

Escape to this. unsophisticated retreat located between Okaiawa and Kapuni,
around 12 km from SHwy 3 via Normanby. The historic site dating back to the
Taranaki land wars. Camping is on sheltered, wide-open grounds surrounded
by thick plantings. There are no powered sites. There is a token kitchen with
sink. Outside you will find picnic tables and children’s play equipment. A large
open porch with benches serves as a dining area. There are 3 toilets (one with
disabled access) and no showers. All services are somewhat “rustic”. Cold
water is on tap but no hot water. Gates may be locked at dusk. Fees of $5

From the Te Kao Store, about 10 km farther north from here you turn east down Paua
Road, then into Te Pua road. There is a plateau of rough grass above sheltered waters on three sides. A landmark bar of gleaming white (pure silica) sand protects this coast. Clear, deep water is around the perimeter, but you will
have to negotiate a bank to the water or try your luck at the boat ramp, unless
the tide is right. Campers must be totally independent. This appears to be a great fishing spot. Charges are $10 per vehicle per night.

On the historic Forgotten World Highway between Stratford and Taumarunui, some 43 km inland of Stratford, is this outdoor adventure centre sited on what was an old forestry camp. The camp is open for casual travellers depending on whether there are school parties in residence, so it is wise to phone ahead and check availability. Camping is in a wooded setting with a cluster of prime sites near the road, including 16 with power. A modern amenities building has a commercial kitchen, dining hall, lounge and laundry. Laundry costs $5 per day. Two blocks of good ablutions are provided. Your hosts are Michelle and Jamie. Prices are per person, tent and unpowered camper van $12. Well what a transformation in this huge camp in the centre of Temuka.
Recently purchased by a group of locals, it has undergone a transformation.
Big old shady trees with lots of open space providing campers with around 136
power and 110 tent sites on flat ground. There is also a beautiful new animal
friendly space set apart from the main camping area, mostly unpowered but
with a couple of powered. What used to be the tired and uncared for facilities,
are still basic but have been renovated and cleaned to immaculate standards.
The kitchens are well stocked with everything you could possibly need, herbs
gardens too, and the ablutions show the same care and attention with clean shower curtains and water blasted floors. A large laundry has ample automatic
equipment and there is internet available as well as a dump point. Plenty of
room here as you are on the edge of a huge rugby field, that doubles as tent
sites in summer, and an adventure playground is only 50m away. Close by are
facilities where you can play tennis, mini golf, go skating, swim, play 18 holes
of golf, enjoy the cycle track or just go fishing. Very friendly onsite caretakers
will help you with any queries. Powered sites $25 to $32 for two, unpowered
from $8 to $12 per person. Extra adults are $12, under 5 are free, 5-16
are only $5.

Closest to the start of the Abel Tasman National Park walks, there are views out to the beach in this lively, happy campground. There are plenty of tent sites set in a garden area; enjoy the sound of the sea and birdsong plus the company of Pukekos and Wekas.
Copses of natural bush are dotted around the camp. There is a mini camp store sells reasonably priced wine and beer, you can enjoy the café/bar/restaurant. A bus stop is close by. The ablutions are well-kept and have disability facilities. There is a new block of showers with a view of the beach, and the open-style kitchen and dining area that has an extension with several BBQs, help yourself to herbs out of the garden. The laundry has automatic equipment. Enjoy an evening on the large communal deck with a camp fire and native trees all around.
All activity bookings can be made at Reception including Water Taxis, Kayaking, SUPs, Sky Diving, River Canyoning, Hand gliding, Microlites and a massage to end the day here.
