DESCRIPTION:
Just 8 kilometres north of Napier, turn off the main Highway onto Hill Rd,
then turn left onto Patene Road. You will find this camp ground behind the
Bay View Hotel. Great surfcasting 5 minutes away. Central to the camp
is an octagonal service block with semi covered dining area with a fully
equipped covered outdoor kitchen, BBQ, laundry and unisex ablutions and
large showers with disabled access. There is a TV lounge with wifi internet,
and dump station. An onsite bar supplies meals and refreshments. Enjoy a
pig on a spit on Sunday evenings, from 6pm, bookings preferred. All sites are

Great place to base yourself to explore all Te Urewera and Waikaremoana has to offer from short walks, waterfalls, stunning views, bird watching, trout fishing, swimming, kayaking, boating or just relax and soak up the scenery. Camp lakeside with views across the lake to the lush backdrop of native bush There is a well stocked General Store on site with snacks, groceries, petrol & diesel, fishing licences, fishing gear, visitor information and more. Large communal kitchen divided into bays with a stove, hotplates, microwaves, large fridges and freezers. There is an adjoining dining area with great lake views and alfresco dining. Newly refurbished main ablution block including disabled access facilities and other toilet blocks conveniently located around the park. Also available is the automated laundry, card phone, dumps stations, overnight public car park, boat jetty and fish cleaning station. Barbeques are available to hire. Bikes are welcome. No pets are allowed in the Holiday Park or Te Urewera. Tent sites from $15 and powered sites from $18 per adult.

Ideally placed for a midway stopover, about 60 km inland from Napier on
the Napier-Taihape road, is a newly opened DOC campsite. Just north of
Kiripapango, at the edge of the Forest Park, you can camp on a rambling site
on terraces above the Ngaruroro River. Camp across several grassy levels
in a bush-clad, steep-sided valley. Around 10 gravel hardstands are provided
on the upper terraces for campervans (no power), whilst on the lower levels
there are many great spots for tents amongst the bush and scrub. New ecotoilets are scattered about the camp and there is a bit of a steep walk down to the river for your water supply! A popular spot for river rafting and fishing.

From the Cameron carpark you can walk to Kuripapaango Trig or Cameron Hut. Tramps to Kiwi Saddle, Kaweka Range, Kiwi Mouth Hut and Back Ridge are also available.
The route from the Cameron Carpark to the Cameron Hut follows the Ngaruroro River. It begins just upriver from the water gauge. As at least 30 fordings are necessary it can only be negotiated when the Ngaruroro River is not in flood.

Mangatutu Hot Springs is a popular camping, picnic and fishing spot, and a starting point for tramping, hunting or day walks up the Mohaka River and further into the Kaweka Forest Park. There are picnic tables and toilets located in secluded clearings among the manuka surrounds, and there are access tracks descending to the Mohaka River. The main feature here is the thermal springs. Thermal water issues from a deep, undercut, steaming hole on the top terrace. The water trickles down a riverside bluff and after a short way is channeled into two pools.

A short distance from State highway 5, on the road to Taupo and right opposite the Hawkes Bay Mountain Bike Park, this rambling family park offers sheltered campsites in the heart of grape-growing country. It_s bordered by the Esk River that offers safe swimming with unrestricted river access. There are trout and eels, so it_s good for fishing. Shady trees are plentiful and the kids can ride their bikes. The country-style camping attracts some long-term occupants but there are roomy sites for motorhomes and large vehicles. A modest park with a children's playground. The basic clean kitchen has hotplate cooking, microwave and fridge/freezers. There are 2 ablution blocks. There are two spruce up ablution blocks. They offer free showers and a separate disabled access unit. An automatic laundry and coin phone are provided. Your hosts are Dan & Ashlee hope to have a dump point before this book is printed. Seasonal rates apply. No eftpos is available. Please bring cash or cheque.

by pine trees. Facilities include toilets, BBQ area and cooking shelter, with

Westshore Holiday Park is easy-to-find camp on the northern edge of Napier. Set in immaculate and mature gardens, the recent addition of a large, grassed recreational area at the rear of the camp behind the tent terraces is a real asset. There is a flying fox, Trampoline etc. . The camp comprises 70 sites (46 with power) and some all-weather van sites. Children have an enclosed, central play area and there is a pleasant covered dining area set aside for BBQs and socialising. There is a corridor-type kitchen with dining and TV at one end, plus a good selection of kitchen equipment. Two ablution blocks with metered showers have had a spruce-up (plus there is a children_s bath). An automatic laundry is available, as is bike hire and wireless internet. The tavern across the road or adjacent take-away are handy alternatives when it_s your night to cook! Your hosts are Dennis and Brenda.
