DESCRIPTION:

This is a well presented camp in a quiet location about 1 km from the town
centre and close to the Olympic size swimming pool. A focal point is the
outdoor kitchen/BBQ area, well lit at night with a generous amount of seating.
A playground is alongside. Flowers and trees are dotted around this level
camp. The amenities are smart and up-to-date. In the corridor kitchen
there is plenty of bench space. Cooking by microwave, full stove or hot
plates. The laundry hosts automatic equipment and an ironing centre. Great
housekeeping here. The Jacobs are the hosts. Sites from $18 per person.

DESCRIPTION:

Over the hill at the end of the road, overlooking beautiful Parutahi Bay. The
camping area is mostly flat, on varying grassy levels climbing slightly to the
rear, where there is a communal amenities building. The camp is right on the
beach front and well looked after. The ablutions are clean and tidy and the
laundry has washers and dryers. The kitchen is clean and has all you need. A
fish cleaning bench and a boat wash are provided and kayaks may be hired.
Bait and ice are available at the office that is shared with a shop, and stocks overnight essentials. All sites are $17 per person, $10 a child. Seasonal rates apply.

Rocky Bay Cove is available for exclusive hire (one booking only at a time) throughout the year. Note: In winter heavy rain may limit site access to four wheel drive vehicles only. ( A four wheel drive vehicle is available to access the site if necessary.)

  • Bookings are limited to a maximum of 12 people. The minimum stay is two nights.
  • An additional cost is a cleaning fee which is $10 a night subject to a $50 maximum.
  • Fee includes use of all facilities and equipment: boat ramp, mooring, floating golf green (golf balls and clubs provided), fishing gear, crayfish pots, snorkelling gear, life jackets, dinghy. A refundable bond of $250 is required.
  • There is ample parking. Campervans are permitted.

Located on Waipoua River Road 1km from State Highway 12 in the heart of the Waipoua Forest. A good base from which to explore the forests of Northland,
with walking and tramping tracks aplenty. The campground is at the forests
visitors centre, near the Waipoua River, where you can make your booking.
Facilities include hot and cold showers, toilets and a communal cookhouse with
a refrigerator if required, plus a laundry tub, and token operated machines
available. Enjoy the evening chorus provided by the resident kiwi population and view Waipoua Historic Kauri photo display. No pets or fires please. Te Roroa is looking after this interesting camp. Approximatly 80 camp sites.
Adults, $15 per night. Children (5 to17yrs) $7.50 per night, preschool (under
4yrs) free. Discounted guided night walks for campground patrons.

DESCRIPTION:

Mangawhai Heads Holiday Park is right on the estuary. This camp is divided
in two by the entrance road. On the south side level sites are fairly open,
with a few trees. Up to 88 power sites and 111 tent sites. Good beachstyle
metred ablutions. A bright sunny kitchen has ceramic hobs, ovens, fridge
and plenty of bench space, but no inside dining. A good automatic laundry is
alongside. On the north side of the road is the camp office leading to a more
secluded setting, with some attractive sheltered spots for tenting and views
directly through the Heads to the ocean. Here there is an attractive play area,
a block of basic toilets and two showers that are handy. ($1 for 7 minutes)
This is a lovely coastal spot with a choice of camping amenities. The hosts here
are Richard and Noela Gunson. Power sites are $18 per adult, $8 per child
and tent sites are from $16 per adult. Seasonal rates apply.

DESCRIPTION:

Whangaruru camping ground is at Puriri Bay within the Whangaruru North Head Scenic Reserve, and 2km past Bland Bay (unsealed). The area is very attractive with sheltered waters. Enjoy walking, swimming, boating and other water sports. The campground faces west, with 90 sites overlooking the Whangaruru Harbour. Flat to gently sloping grounds have scattered native plantings. Four toilet blocks are provided plus one enclosed and one open-air cold shower. There is good filtered drinking water on site.

Look for the big Marlin at the gate. This is the best place to land _the big one_. Tutukaka is world renowned for its deep sea fishing and recognized as the No 1 Dive location in New Zealand, close to the Poor Knights where the frigates Waikato and Tui have been sunk for recreational divers. For the latte set there are four cafes nearby. This rural camp is five minutes walk to the beach, dive shop and the village shops. 60 powered sites and 30 for tents. There is a trampoline for the children, which has enclosed sides for safety. A wonderful kitchen has a large island bench, and good facilities and equipment. Adjacent is a dining area and TV room with comfortable furniture and a fireplace. Just outside is a BBQ area. Generous ablutions include a disability suite for both sexes and a 50 cent metered shower system. There is a special dive gear drying area. Grant and Denise are your hosts. All sites are $17 per night per person. Seasonal rates apply.

Nestled amongst 538 hectares of premier recreation reserve with walking and cycling tracks and white sand freshwater dune lakes renowned for their jewel-like beauty and clear waters. Perfect for a wonderful camping experience with the choice of two camp grounds located on lake foreshore, both offering an ideal camping experience for tents, caravans or motorhomes. Pine Beach has campsites, wash and shower facilities, two flushing toilet blocks, pontoon, playground and summer seasonal services, including mobile shop and camp staff located onsite. Sites are $10 per night and there are a limited number of powered sites, at an extra charge of $10 that must be booked as per the other sites at the camp ground. Promenade Point has camping areas and a toilet block however no shower facilities, and is a true relaxed kiwiana camping experience. There is a strict no pets policy to protect the native wildlife. The Taharoa Domain reserve's beautiful crystal clear Kai Iwi Lakes are ideal for safe swimming, kayaking, fishing, boating and water skiing.

Magnificent manicured lightly terraced grounds lead gently down to a natural swimming pool in the river. The sites are large and well treed, many having
their own picnic tables and there are vast open areas for recreation and a
childrens’ play area. The facilities are excellent, clean and spruce. The large
kitchen/living room has a large covered dining deck (with BBQ’s) overlooking
the river. A kauri servery opens to the spacious wood panelled social/dining
room with TV. The ablutions are not numerous, but are clean and tiled, with
liquid soap, hair dryers, plus a disability suite. The laundry has auto washing
and dryer. Internet access is available. At the office/shop you can arrange a
guided night walk where you may see a kiwi roaming. Bookings essential for
the night walk. Secluded in the fold of bush-clad hills, this topnotch camp is
close to the kauri forests, 33km north of Dargaville. Your hosts are Chris and
Jane McCombs. IAC wifi is available, cell coverage limited. Camping costs
from $44 per person and $11 per child. Seasonal rates apply
