Situated about 8 minutes drive to Tauranga city centre, 15 minutes to Mount Maunganui.

When you hit Anaura Bay turn north and head up the tar sealed road to this
relaxed, family, beachfront camping area in a fenced paddock beside a stream.
Great swimming and coastal bush walks are to be had from here. This basic
campground is open between Labour weekend (October) through to Easter.
This is back-to-basics camping. No toilets are provided. You also need to
bring your own portable cookers or barbecues and don't forget a chemical toilet. (a dump station is provided in the peak season). Other facilities include rubbish collection and tap water (not suitable for drinking).
Fees (effective March 2023)

Turn east off SHwy 35, beside the Raponga River bridge, onto the road to Anaura Bay. The road is fairly steep but is sealed all the way and your reward is a magnificent sheltered beach at your camp doorstep - with views to nearby Motuoroi Island. We have 70 unpowered and 30 powered sites, 18 of which are prime beachfront positioning (Captain Cook landed here in 1769). The large, well-equipped kitchen is to be found in the historic school building that has a nice sheltered verandah running along the front with great sea views. The camp store is open 7 days during the peak season. Two blocks of ablutions (Wahine and Tane) have showers and toilets. There is also an outdoor swim shower and basins. Children have a play area. There is an automatic laundry. Pets are welcome only in off-peak times. Fishing (beach and boat), diving and crayfishing in the vicinity are excellent. Wifi is available. Seasonal rates apply.

Situated at the northern end of Tauranga Harbour, Athenree Hot Springs Park has picturesque grounds, with mature trees in a superb waterfront location. Choose from a number of powered or tent sites some with water views. Thermal water from a deep bore feeds a sparkling swimming pool and soak pool, both set at comfortable temperatures and available free to campers. There are two smart amenity buildings and a modern kitchen with microwave, conventional cooking appliances and refrigeration. A pleasant communal BBQ area with water views is annexed off the kitchen. You can get your supplies at the camp store/office and enjoy the holiday entertainment on offer. There are kayaks and bikes for hire, a trampoline and recreation room and both internet kiosk and wifi. An automatic laundry and dump point are provided. Your hosts are Sheryl and Mike. All sites are from $21 to $27 per adult, $12 to $16 for children. Seasonal rates apply.

Athenree Lavender and Holiday Park is a family camp conveniently located beside SHwy 2 in the Athenree Gorge, 10 minutes drive to either Waihi in the north, or Katikati in the south. The office/Lavender Gift & Doll shop is situated beneath the popular Flip ‘n Bear café. Cross the bridge and set up camp on several grassy plateaux or on a larger open area divided by attractive lavender hedges. One side of the park is bounded by natural bush and the other by the Wairau Stream. There are 56 powered sites with plenty of taps, unlimited tent space and a number of ‘permanents’ in residence. A central amenities block has a somewhat empty modern kitchen, plus inside and outside dining. The smart ablutions have free showers, a disabled access suite and an automatic laundry. Feed the tame trout and eels, stroll through the bush or have a dip in the swimming hole. Your hosts are Dawn, Lindsay and Todd Vallender. All sites are from $15 per adult.

A well-manicured park, just across the road from the lovely Papamoa Beach. Enter through the security gate to landscaped grounds. Although leased ground limits casual camping, site space is generous and the on-site shop has ice-creams and sweets. A children’s playground and a BBQ are provided. There are two modern amenity blocks, a well equipped kitchen and an automatic laundry. A dump station and public phone are available for campers. Your hosts are Joe and Sarah Van Duin.

Located in Little Waihi, this estuary-ringed camp has large, open, level sites bordered by water on two sides. The estuary provides a scenic backdrop, as well as safe swimming and launching for small boats. There is a shop that sells the basics for every campers needs. Campers have access to two kitchens with stoves, microwave and fridges. There are two laundry facilities and two sets of ablutions - with metered showers. There are 100 powered sites and 45 tents sites with 14 cabins as well - well suited for fishing enthusiasts or, surfies or divers.

Down a gravel road south of Opotiki, you can camp surrounded by nikau palms
and tawa forest next to the Te Waiti Stream. This relaxed, self-registration campsite
is in picturesque surroundings and it is popular for fishing and swimming. Facilities
include toilets, picnic tables, BBQ areas and water supply from the stream. With
room for about 16 tents, no fees for camping here.
