Watch the motorway traffic jams and city lights from this hillside vantage point!
Turn off the main highway heading north into Porirua and follow the blue
TransitNZ camp signs. The camp sits on a sunny plateau overlooking Porirua
harbour. There are two camping areas with views and a bush backdrop that
provides walks and native birdlife. Portacom ablution units for male and
female are clean and well placed, but with a central changing area. There are a tidy and well-equipped kitchen building with an outdoor dining area (great views!), two toilets, dump station and an automatic laundry.

Only 18 kms to the Interisland ferries.

There are twenty campervan sites, 10 powered and 10 non-powered and 15 grassed tent sites.

Putangirua Pinnacles Scenic Reserve is 13 km along Cape Palliser Road from the Lake Ferry turn-off, approximately one hours drive from Martinborough. The turn-off and campsite are 500 metres past the Department of Conservation Te Kopi Homestead and Cottage.

DESCRIPTION:

Just north of Upper Hutt, take the second entrance into the Park. Here you_ll find a wonderful campsite full of lovely trees and lots of sheltered space on grassy flats for campers. The sparkling Pakuratahi River loops around the camp for family swimming. A great wilderness experience so close to the city. Walk the Ridge Track for wonderful views of the Upper Hutt valley, or visit the magical spot used as a set for Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Two roofed BBQ/dining areas are adjacent to the toilet blocks. Facilities are cold water only. Apart from the free BBQs and sinks, campers need to be self-sufficient. The ranger_s office is on-site and gates close at dusk. Camping costs $ 6per adult, $3 per child Cash or Cheque only please.

DESCRIPTION:

Mawley Park, at the northern end of Masterton, occupies an attractive location
on the banks of the Waipoua River (with good swimming holes). The 15 acre,
sheltered grounds are tidy with large trees and plenty of space for the 200
or so tent sites and 54 powered sites. A BBQ shelter has cooking facillities.
The camping areas are grouped in separate sections with sealed road access
and brand new unisex individual ablutions serving each area (these include
disabled access facilities). The park has had a major refurbishment with a lot
of thought been put into what makes a place nice. There’s a large dining hall
with highchairs, a TV and a separate comfortable and modern TV lounge. The
kitchen has gas hobs and is very modern and well equipped. A supermarket
is nearby and QE11 Park is across the road for the kids, whilst there are also a
few small pieces of play equipment to keep the kids amused onsite. A DVD
Library and local information is available at the office. Free washing machines
and $2 dryer are part of the laundry. A dump station is provided. Powered sites $38 for 2, unpowered $36 for 2. Your friendly and enthusiastic hosts are

A great little friendly camp in vineyard country! The camp layout and new rustic-inspired amenities complex, complement the surrounding vines and village atmosphere. It is an easy walk to the numerous wineries, shops, caf_s and restaurants of the town centre and the town pool is right next door! Camp under the trees and enjoy the modern kitchen with gas BBQ, deck, lounge, laundry and shower block. Hire a bike to cruise the vineyards. There are 20 powered sites and room for about 20 tents with a dump station provided. A play area for young children has been built, and a petanque court for the Mum_s and Dads. The best of the relaxed kiwi camping experience can be found in historic Greytown. Tucked into the well-wooded Kuratawhiti Park, camp amongst the Totara trees on level, long-established, grounds with a tranquil rural aspect. Only a short walk to the lively town centre with cafes and boutique shopping, there are 61 tent sites and 34 sites with power. In the centre of the camp is a picnic and BBQ garden area. Tennis courts, an outstanding playground and the town swimming pool are just next door to keep the kids entertained. The two combined kitchen/ablutions blocks have been refurbished with all new whiteware and appliances. There are a female and male shower and toilet with wheelchair access and a laundry with coin-operated autowashers. A recycle station is available. No eftpos is available. Please bring cash.

Rates are $15.00 an adult for an unpowered site per night and $19.00 an adult for a powered site per night. Children (2 to 12 years inclusive) are $8.00 a night whether on a powered or unpowered site. Children under 2 years are free.

Carterton Holiday Park is restful camping for the traveller in well-kept, quiet surroundings, not far from the main road and the bustling village shops. There are 32 powered sites divided by shrubs into private individual bays, and room for 50 tents on tidy attractive sites. It also boasts 6 fully furnished, heated and carpeted self-contained units sleeping up to 6 people.  All linen and bedding is provided in self-contained units. Plus 4 basic cabins sleeping up to 7 people. An appealing kitchen provides stove and microwave plus a fridge. A glassed-in dining area has a TV and opens to a covered terrace with BBQ. 150 camp sites Open October long weekend till Easter Open river terraces and regenerating bush surround the campsite reflecting the farming, mining and sawmilling history of the area. There are short walks to pioneering era relics. Some harder tramping tracks start here. The river offers swimming, white water kayaking and trout fishing.
