It's great to see a campground with lots of quirky objects scattered around, from the robot that meets you at the entrance to the sites, to the hedge face. Here you will find level sites on gently rising land with good shade trees. An inviting outdoor eating area has a BBQ and pizza oven with seating around, all sheltered by a trellis and pergola. In the kitchen is an island with hobs, microwave and fridge, plus small appliances. The ablution block is light and bright with plenty of good hot showers. In the laundry are automatic washing machines dryers and an iron. All amenities are clean and tidy. There is a children’s play area, trampoline and cricket pitch, and a popular solar heated swimming pool as well as a TV room. Children can borrow DVDs at no
charge. A peaceful setting great for a family, individual, backpacker or groups.
There are large spacious sites for campervans, caravans and tents, and it is a gentle stroll to the beach, marina or restaurants. It is also handy to two boat launch pads. Your hosts are Felicity, Richard and family. All sites from $16 per adult, $7.50 per child.

In the heart of vineyard and fruit-bowl country, this camp is 6km from Blenheim and 10mins to the Picton Ferry. On one boundary are campsites along the stream bank, the grounds are open and well-kept with tree boundaries, and more trees have been planted for shelter. There are around 70 power sites, some with hard stands. The ablutions are basic and with a charge for the showers. Two kitchens are well equipped with full stoves, and the TV room has a pool table and table tennis for your enjoyment. Cool off in the swimming pool, or enjoy the children’s playground. Not many sites available on the edge of this busy backpacker complex, and small vans only due to parking room. This is a young person's paradise, looks like a great social atmosphere. Has all the normal amenities that are needed, a bit messy but not too bad. A pool to cool down in, and a very sociable outside BBQ area, as well as an outside covered porch area to grab a book or answer your emails. Your host is Barry.

Linkwater is on the scenic Queen Charlotte Drive between Havelock and Picton. Easy, level camping here with a hill backdrop in a peaceful farm setting where you can meet and feed the animals. The grounds are open and you can BBQ or picnic under the trees, 12 sites with power, plus lots of tent sites. A light, airy kitchen has two full stoves, microwave and fridge/freezer (kitchen utensils can be borrowed). In the dining room there is TV and a woodburner, and this room opens to a sheltered patio with picnic tables just outside. Off a corridor there are showers on one side and toilets on the other, including a superb disability suite and excellent automatic laundry equipment. Lots to do, go mountain biking, tramping, kayaking, diving or fishing. Only a 30 minute walk to the waterfall and gloworms. There is a wood fired pizzaqa operating some days during summer, wifi is available, there is a dump point, and dogs on leads please. Your friendly hosts are Chris and Barbara Faulls. This is a large park set over two distinct areas, divided by SH1 and bordered by a meandering river. The main camping area is by the river with tree plantings that divide many of the power sites. The grounds are level and spacious with many shady trees and about 160 sites to choose from. This area has its own excellent amenity blocks with kitchens and dining, ablutions, laundries and disability units. There is a TV room and internet access as well as a swimming pool, trampoline, children’s playground, and undercover BBQ area. Have a dip in the spa pool, there is a dump point and car wash also available on site. Try fishing for your dinner in the river or explore the area on a bike available for hire.
The children can have fun on the hire pedal cars too. A tavern and fast food

Cow Shed Bay is near the foreshore or on the inland side of the road. Enjoy boating, fishing, walking, mountain biking or relaxing in this popular campsite. Portage is nearby (500m) where there is a shop with basic supplies and accommodation with a bar and restaurant. Number of tent sites - 30. Flush toilets.

Just off State Highway One in Seddon, 25km south of Blenheim, is a camp run by the Awatere Community Trust. Hedges along three sides provide shelter for the flat open camping area. The facilities are clean and tidy and the kitchen has a fridge, two full stoves and microwave. Showers and toilets and a disability suite are provided and your pets are welcome. The camp is adjacent to a children's playground and a huge swimming pool. This stopover is a 5 minute drive to local shopping and 10 minutes to a vineyard and golf course. There are 14 power sites and several tent sites and a dump point available. All sites are $12 per person for non-powered site and $15 per person for powered site. The Momorangi Bay camp is found in picturesque Queen Charlotte Sound, just
25 minutes drive from Picton. Its sheltered location at the top of Grove Arm is
great for boating, swimming, walking and picnicking. It is accessible by a sealed
road from Picton and Blenheim, or turn off on to Queen Charlotte Drive if
travelling from Nelson. No pets please. New clean amenities (including some
for disabled people). Lovely new beach front kitchen/laundry/showers block.
The kitchen, although small is clean and has all amenities. 80 power and 80
tent sites are on sheltered terraces with attractive picnic tables. A boat ramp
is available across the road. The Manager is available in the shop throughout
the summer months, and most days during the winter. Price for all sites is $15
per adult, child $7.50.
