This long-established beach camp is close to 'surf-capital' Whangamata's shopping centre and just 100m from the beach. Intimacy with your neighbour is almost guaranteed in summer with the close proximity of the sites and there are plenty of permanent _weekenders_ in place. Casual campers have good practical amenities spread across three blocks. The large open-plan kitchen has all the essentials; the ablutions have tidy metered showers and there are outdoor (cold) _swim_ showers. There is also a large, well-loved, TV and games room. An automatic laundry, boat wash and dump point are provided. In the peak summer period, you can enjoy organised family entertainment, and there is an on-site general store with a phone. Papa Aroha Holiday Camp offers you a range of accommodation options from tent sites to cabins and motel units. We are positioned right on the beachfront with superb sea and island views making for great family holiday memories.
DESCRIPTION:
An absolute beachfront camp, 15 minutes north of Coromandel. Designed
as a water-lover’s retreat, the camp is ideal for families with safe swimming. It
is bordered by an extensive pebbly beach and a pretty tidal creek. Two boat
ramps and plenty of boat parking are available. Your $3 ramp fee entitles you
to use the tractor, vehicle & trailer parking, fish cleaning facility and boat wash
(sorry, no discount for those who come home fishless!). There are kayaks
for hire, or hire a water taxi. The camp sites are level and have some lovely
pohutukawa trees for shade. The pleasant grounds are liberally dotted with
communal buildings that include a well-kept kitchen with plenty of appliances,
TV and fridge/freezer; a porch-style laundry, good bathrooms with metered
showers, separate toilets and disabled suite access. Stock up at the camp store
that is open daily. Petrol and diesel pumps and a public phone are at the front.

South of Hot Water Beach, turn off on SH25 at Whenuakite (watch for the big sign) this innovative camp has been built up around a former dairy shed and has some amusing rural touches. There are 24 powered sites and 55 tent sites. The modern facilities are excellent, with the front part of the camp sharing spacious facilities with _Cowree Lodge_, and the rear camping area has its own modern amenity block. This new block with expansive rural views has a large kitchen, recreation room and sparkling free showers and toilets. The main lodge has a sizable kitchen and lounge with all the trimmings that make it a home-away-from-home. Off the lounge is a large, open-air dining/BBQ patio that once was the rotary yard for the milking station. Dual shower rooms for both sexes, plus an overflow shower and a couple of toilets, are found at the other end of the building. Your friendly hosts, Don and Dawn, are happy for campers to help themselves to the fruit trees scattered about (in season). There is also a small office/shop which sells basic items. An internet kiosk is available, and free wifi You can enjoy a tour of the on-site brewery and stay for dinner. Tent sites are $17 to $20 per person, and powered sites $19 to $25 per person. This neat clean well maintained holiday resort, just 17 minutes drive north of
Coromandel Town, offers an inviting welcome to the tired traveller. Set up
camp on one of a series of elevated grassy terraces with bush backdrops and
relax whilst enjoying the uninterrupted sea views. A delightful, rocky stream
borders the camp and the beach is just across the road. The amenities are
compact but immaculately clean and well presented.. The kitchen has 2 stoves
and fridge/freezer, or cook up an outdoor feast in the large hexagonal enclosed
BBQ pavilion, complete with 2 central BBQs and lots of tables and seating.
Whilst you’re enjoying dinner, you can watch the kids splashing about in the
adjacent swimming pool and spa area. Free showers are provided, there is an
automatic laundry available. As the name suggests, fisherfolk are well catered
for with ‘on-site’ fishing charters, a water taxi service, dinghy hire and bait tackle
for sale. The office shop sells the basics and there is a poolroom/TV lounge.

The family park is a short walk to the centre of Whitianga. It offers large
level sites some some hedged for privacy and beautiful trees, giving plenty of
shade. There is ample room for cars and boats. Recreational facilities include
an outdoor swimming pool, children's playground, TV room, BBQ’s and some
picnic tables on wheels to take to your site. The indoor area has tables and
chairs and some USB ports and internet kiosks. The camp has a wireless hot
spot. There is a fsh cleaning area, car and boat wash and a dump point on site.
The well kept ablutions include a baby’s bath in the Ladies facilities. Showers
are no charge. The kitchen, with stainless steel benches, has fridge freezers,
hotplates, toasters, microwaves and a water flter. There is a central table for
food preparation. The laundry has all new equipment with coin operated
Maytag washing machines and dryers. There is an ironing board and iron set

Opoutere Coastal Camping is set alongside the Wharekawa Wildlife Sanctuary and broad sweep of Opoutere surf beach. This coastal hideaway is just 5 km from SHwy 25 and less than two hours drive from Auckland airport. The camp is open Labour Weekend to the end of April, and the offce/shop at the entrance offers basic supplies and controls the barrier arm card access way. Choose from a mixture of 25 powered and plenty of non-powered sites spread across bush-ringed grounds. There are two ablution blocks with unisex metered shower cubicles and a disabled access suite. The kitchens have all the usual equipment (no oven) and a covered verandah with BBQ for relaxed, outdoor meals. An automatic laundry and dump station are provided and the camp is suited to large vehicles. Enjoy the bushwalks and beachwalks, mountain biking and kayaking on hand.
