The campsite is located on State Highway 1 at the northern foot of Raetea
Forest (Mangamuka Gorge)18 km, south-east of Kaitaia along S Hwy 1 towards
Mangataiore. Look for ‘Raetea Reserve’ sign and follow the short gravel drive
beyond the stream ford. Just 20 free campsites set in one of the last remaining
lowland coastal forests. Look and listen for Kukupa or Kereru (wood pigeon),
short tailed bats and parakeets. Kauri snails are present here too.
15 Km from Ahipara and 1km past the Herekino Hotel. Here you will find a long drop toilet, showers, and a basic out-door kitchen. There is a small museum here. Enjoy horse treks, fishing/snorkelling trips, bush/beach walks and hunting treks, from this very relaxed country farm. Your hosts are Grant and Tangi Davan. Bay of Islands Holiday Apartments & Campervan Park, is a delightful small boutique park has 28 campervan sites (17 powered and 11 unpowered). It comes complete with new ablution block which is very spacious and clean and laundry with washing machine and dryer The showers are $2 metered.. It is 250 meters from the beach, three minutes to Haruru Falls, close to the supermarket, two kilometers to the golf course and 1 kilometer to Paihia Village. What more could you wish for, except that there is a great BBQ shelter free for you to use overlooking a natural pond. All sites are $15-$20 per person and $5 for power. Seasonal rates apply. 4km north of Opononi turn off SHwy12 onto Koutu Loop Road. The camping
and picnic area is 3km from the highway. This is no frills camping on a grassy
plateau, surrounded on 3 sides by the Hokianga Harbour, with superb views.
You will need to be fully self-contained as the only facilities are some picnic
tables. There is no water, or power but there is a long drop toilet. There is
a boat ramp nearby. Camping costs $10 per night per van and can be put in
the honesty system at the small shed at the entrance. Big area of sites. Sid
and Donna live at 825 Koutu Loop Rd which is the first house on the road
from the main road.
At the junction, 6km north of Kaitaia, A boutique park within a motel complex
with a pretty and private camping area at the rear of the Motel. The entrance
is around a manicured lawn. There are 12 sites with power and 2 without,
neatly placed between privacy hedges. At the front of this is a heated pool
and BBQ. A brand new ablution building with spacious showers (including
a disabled facility) and a fully equipped laundry are the facilities provided. A
playground with swings, slide and sandpit will keep the children happy. Wifi
available and kitchen facilities upon request. Sites are from $20 per person.

This long established, charming camp occupies a wonderful site between a safe beach and a boundary of bush. There is a lovely walk from here to Paihia 3.0 km away. This very popular holiday spot has about 90 sites, 58 with power. If you are lucky you can pitch your tent with the water almost lapping at the door. The kitchen, although mainly gas, does have an electric stove. Outside is a large covered BBQ/dining deck, placed to enjoy all the activities in the Bay. Listen up cooks! There is an old dinghy filled with herbs to add dinnertime flavour. Well presented showers and toilets. The laundry is equipped with automatic machines and a freezer. At the rear of the building is a TV room, and there is a playground for children. Free unlimited Wifi is available. There is a dump point for your use.
