DESCRIPTION:

Athenree Lavender and Holiday Park is a family camp conveniently located beside SHwy 2 in the Athenree Gorge, 10 minutes drive to either Waihi in the north, or Katikati in the south. The office/Lavender Gift & Doll shop is situated beneath the popular Flip ‘n Bear café. Cross the bridge and set up camp on several grassy plateaux or on a larger open area divided by attractive lavender hedges. One side of the park is bounded by natural bush and the other by the Wairau Stream. There are 56 powered sites with plenty of taps, unlimited tent space and a number of ‘permanents’ in residence. A central amenities block has a somewhat empty modern kitchen, plus inside and outside dining. The smart ablutions have free showers, a disabled access suite and an automatic laundry. Feed the tame trout and eels, stroll through the bush or have a dip in the swimming hole. Your hosts are Dawn, Lindsay and Todd Vallender. All sites are from $15 per adult.

Bowentown Beach Holiday Park lies at the southern end of Waihi Beach. Four
beaches within walking distance offer a choice of surf or sheltered harbour
swimming. The camp provides lots of extras: stock up at the mini-market,
soak in the 6-seater spa or stay in touch via Skype, wireless internet hotspot,
or email kiosks. For families there are kayaks and fun bikes for hire. Sites
are spread across three, well-drained sandy terraces, some with great sea
views out to Mayor Island. A few permanent ‘weekenders’ add to the charm
of this holiday spot. The central, well-equipped amenities are spacious and
immaculately clean. The ablutions offer metered unisex showers, as well as
the single-sex variety and a baby’s bath. A family bathroom and separate
disabled bathroom have been added. Another toilet block gives extra facilities.
There is an automatic laundry along with open-air tubs and wringer. A large social room/kitchen is in house-proud order with both, hob and microwave
cooking, plus fridge/freezer and outdoor BBQ cooking options. Kids have a
playground or on wet days can enjoy the superb Sky TV lounge and games
room. Fishermen will find a boat ramp, boat-park and fish-cleaning facilities at

A rustic, beachside camp about 17 km east of Opotiki, it has tidy grounds with 80 sites, 40 with power. You can see White Island from the open sites, which have direct access to the white sandy beach with gorgeous sunsets and great fishing. A tidy communal building has basic amenities and a kitchen without refrigeration. The laundry is an experience with an old wringer washing machine in good working order. The hot water showers are free & ablutions are clean. This camp is run by the Jackson family, who will need cash or cheque only for payment. All tent sites are from $10 per person and powered sites are $12.50 per person per night. Your pet will cost $2.50 with a limit of one dog per group.

Situated at the northern end of Tauranga Harbour, Athenree Hot Springs Park has picturesque grounds, with mature trees in a superb waterfront location. Choose from a number of powered or tent sites some with water views. Thermal water from a deep bore feeds a sparkling swimming pool and soak pool, both set at comfortable temperatures and available free to campers. There are two smart amenity buildings and a modern kitchen with microwave, conventional cooking appliances and refrigeration. A pleasant communal BBQ area with water views is annexed off the kitchen. You can get your supplies at the camp store/office and enjoy the holiday entertainment on offer. There are kayaks and bikes for hire, a trampoline and recreation room and both internet kiosk and wifi. An automatic laundry and dump point are provided. Your hosts are Sheryl and Mike. All sites are from $21 to $27 per adult, $12 to $16 for children. Seasonal rates apply.

about 300m south of the Katikati boundary and head 1.5km inland If it’s a
clothes-free camping experience you are after, this is your place in the sun!
Eight acres of rolling grounds have been lovingly landscaped and designed with the outdoor lifestyle in mind. With 51 powered sites, you can camp near
the boundary stream, or close to the bush. Recreation time has been well
catered for, with a big outdoor chess and draughts board, miniputt, volleyball,
Frisbee, golf and petanque for when the sun is shining, or when it’s not - head
to the recreation hall for a game of pool or your favourite TV programme. At
the heart of the park is a lovely free-form swimming pool and sauna room,
with an adjacent spa pools set under a leafy, roofed deck. The amenities
include a spacious kitchen with full stove, microwave, gas rings, fridge/freezer
and dining space. You can choose between unisex communal showers or a
separate private bathroom suite (which also has disabled access). An internet
