This neat clean well maintained holiday resort, just 17 minutes drive north of
Coromandel Town, offers an inviting welcome to the tired traveller. Set up
camp on one of a series of elevated grassy terraces with bush backdrops and
relax whilst enjoying the uninterrupted sea views. A delightful, rocky stream
borders the camp and the beach is just across the road. The amenities are
compact but immaculately clean and well presented.. The kitchen has 2 stoves
and fridge/freezer, or cook up an outdoor feast in the large hexagonal enclosed
BBQ pavilion, complete with 2 central BBQs and lots of tables and seating.
Whilst you’re enjoying dinner, you can watch the kids splashing about in the
adjacent swimming pool and spa area. Free showers are provided, there is an
automatic laundry available. As the name suggests, fisherfolk are well catered
for with ‘on-site’ fishing charters, a water taxi service, dinghy hire and bait tackle
for sale. The office shop sells the basics and there is a poolroom/TV lounge.

A popular and spacious campsite in the Kauaeranga Valley, 6 km north of the visitor centre.
Broken Hills Number of tent sites - 45 Maximum number of people - 200 Broken Hills campground. Broken Hills campground Camp beside the Tairua River and explore the old gold mining area around the steep cliffs. The Broken Hills Campsite near the end of Puketui Valley Rd is located beside the Tairua River amongst native bush. The camp operates on a first come, first served basis. It has toilets and a rubbish collection area, but no piped water. Water taken directly from the river or streams should be boiled or treated before drinking to reduce the risk of infection. A camp manager regularly visits the site during summer to check on camping, clean facilities and collect fees. An honesty box system operates at other times. Please be considerate to other campers and keep noise levels down. Camping outside designated areas is not permitted.

Colville Bay Motel and Motor Camp is a half an hour_s drive north of Coromandel, this neat and tidy motel and camp spot overlooks a tranquil tidal bay. Despite the remote location, this is very civilised accommodation with a warm, friendly welcome. Enjoy uncrowded camping on well groomed sites behind the motel. There are sites with power and plenty of room for tents. Sites are neatly defined and have both gravel and grass parking. A modern building provides 4 unisex shower and toilet cubicles, including a disabled access suite. Although there is no kitchen, a porch shelter offers washing-up facilities and fridge/freezer, or you can cook in the appealing BBQ arbor with ample covered dining space. A laundry, dump station and private spa room (additional charge) are provided. Enquire about the fishing or bus trips and clean your catch at the fish cleaning station. A fish smoker is available. This resort has a spectacular beachfront location, with island-studded ocean views and the famous pink and white sands of Hahei beach. An easy walk to Cathedral Cove and marine park. The resort_s mature and well-wooded grounds have 300 sites, around half with power. The hill-top, beachfront campervan sites have incomparable views and come with their own picnic tables and clotheslines. In the camper_s kitchen are fridges, microwave and hob cooking. There is a resort store on site and a village shopping centre close by. Three well-cleaned blocks of ablutions have roomy, timed showers, and baths (including a baby_s bath). There is a central covered laundry area, and it has a free air pump for airbed inflation! The breezeway area has clotheslines and opens to a drying room. In another building is a comfy TV room. After a successful day_s fishing, use the fish-cleaning facilities, BBQs and outdoor shellfish boilers. Paid wireless internet is available. The family park is a short walk to the centre of Whitianga. It offers large
level sites some some hedged for privacy and beautiful trees, giving plenty of
shade. There is ample room for cars and boats. Recreational facilities include
an outdoor swimming pool, children's playground, TV room, BBQ’s and some
picnic tables on wheels to take to your site. The indoor area has tables and
chairs and some USB ports and internet kiosks. The camp has a wireless hot
spot. There is a fsh cleaning area, car and boat wash and a dump point on site.
The well kept ablutions include a baby’s bath in the Ladies facilities. Showers
are no charge. The kitchen, with stainless steel benches, has fridge freezers,
hotplates, toasters, microwaves and a water flter. There is a central table for
food preparation. The laundry has all new equipment with coin operated
Maytag washing machines and dryers. There is an ironing board and iron set

To access the hot pools on the beach, follow the road to the end where you will walk back across the beach towards the rocks.
Nestled into native bush, with brand new modern facilities providing free showers, with wheelchair access, a large spacious kitchen with gas hobs, ovens, fridges, microwaves, toasters and hot water on tap. There is a coin operated laundry with dryers and washing machines. A TV room with Freeview, and internet kiosk with wireless is available for a small fee. The ablution and kitchen areas are adjoined to a spacious inner courtyard. Here a large screen TV offers Sky, Sport, a Cartoon Network, UKTV and a variety of other channels for your enjoyment. The park is being added to almost continuously, 6 showers have been added this summer. The Kauaeranga Valley has many campgrounds nestled beside the Kauaeranga River, which flows down from the Coromandel Ranges through the valley.
A little under half-way between Whitianga and Coromandel, this pleasant park
is now run by the resident shareholders. Casual campers are welcome. A
stunning white sandy beach is across the road, with a camp-side stream and
a handy boat ramp. Check-in at the large, well-stocked shop that is open all
year round, although its hours can vary. Try the fast-food service with onsite
delivery available on Friday and Saturday nights. The camping area is dotted
with shady trees and is nicely groomed. The amenities block is squeaky clean
with roomy, metered showers, and toilets that provide for disabled access. The
laundry is well equipped and there is a bait shed. The kitchen has stainless
steel benches, hobs, microwave cooking and fridge/freezers. It opens to an
attractive gazebo that houses BBQs and offers a shaded dining space. For
boaties, the paved car and boat washing area alongside a fish cleaning bench
will be well used. There is a dump station, internet kiosks, an outdoor shower
enclosure and flourishing gardens. Pets allowed except high season and public

This very popular camp commands a prime position on the beach front.
Follow the signs to Long Bay from the main T-intersection in the middle of
Coromandel township. Discover why this spot is such a great place for fishing!
The camp has two distinct waterfront areas, Long Bay and Tucks Bay. Tucks
Bay has long-drop toilets and no power, but is quietly appealing. The Long
Bay site has bright, clean amenities. The roomy metered showers are tiled
and there appears to be ample modern toilet facilities. The compact kitchen
has two stoves, microwave and TV. A gas BBQ in a roofed shelter offers
a pleasant dining alternative. An automatic laundry and dump station are
provided. Ideally suited for the boatie, fish-cleaning and smoking facilities are
on hand. At the camp entrance, the on-site shop has basic supplies including
expresso coffee, ice creams, bait and ice and a public phone. The camp has
100 sites, 50 with power and most with spectacular views across the bay. Your

The gateway to Paradise, 6km north of Coromandel, this camp is set against a backdrop of bush-clad hills with a beautiful swimming beach just across the road. Permanent _weekenders_ dominate the camp but a few powered sites are available for casual campers plus there are plenty of tent sites. Boat parking may be available. There are two sites to camp on Okahu Road, the road end and the larger mid-Okahu camp (formerly known as Grader Camp). The camps are on grass terraces adjacent to Okahu Stream. The areas kahikatea trees were extensively logged and now podocarp are regenerating. Good picnicking and walking in the forest.

Opoutere Coastal Camping is set alongside the Wharekawa Wildlife Sanctuary and broad sweep of Opoutere surf beach. This coastal hideaway is just 5 km from SHwy 25 and less than two hours drive from Auckland airport. The camp is open Labour Weekend to the end of April, and the offce/shop at the entrance offers basic supplies and controls the barrier arm card access way. Choose from a mixture of 25 powered and plenty of non-powered sites spread across bush-ringed grounds. There are two ablution blocks with unisex metered shower cubicles and a disabled access suite. The kitchens have all the usual equipment (no oven) and a covered verandah with BBQ for relaxed, outdoor meals. An automatic laundry and dump station are provided and the camp is suited to large vehicles. Enjoy the bushwalks and beachwalks, mountain biking and kayaking on hand. Otautu Bay Farm Camp is a 30 minute drive north from Coromandel town and 10 minutes north from Colville (on mainly sealed road). Colville has a general store and is the most northern stop for petrol/gas and general supplies. The camp which is bordered by a working farm is spread along most of the bay which provides boat launching, excellent fishing, kayaking and a beautiful safe, sandy swimming beach. It is a great place for walking, relaxing and enjoying spectacular sunsets. It is also an excellent base to further explore the northern end of the Coromandel Peninsula. Facilities include a laundry, metered hot water showers and a range of toilet blocks. There is no kitchen, freezer space accessed by arrangement. Bait, water and ice for sale. Camp sites $14 per adult $6 per child up to14yrs. $6 extra for a powered site per night. Pricing subject to change. Eftpos and credit cards (mastercard and visa) accepted. An absolute beachfront camp, 15 minutes north of Coromandel. Designed

ramps and plenty of boat parking are available. Your $3 ramp fee entitles you
to use the tractor, vehicle & trailer parking, fish cleaning facility and boat wash

for hire, or hire a water taxi. The camp sites are level and have some lovely
pohutukawa trees for shade. The pleasant grounds are liberally dotted with

Turn west at the Coroglen Tavern, and head 3 km along a narrow unsealed road to this relaxed camp by the picturesque Waiwawa River. A bushland experience awaits you. All the amenities are comfortable with country-style housekeeping. A big kitchen features a wood-fired range as well as electric and microwave cooking. Adjacent is an inviting TV room. There are portacom toilet/shower suites and another full amenities block, including a small kitchen with gas rings. Automatic laundry equipment is provided. Filtered water is on tap. South of Hot Water Beach, turn off on SH25 at Whenuakite (watch for the big sign) this innovative camp has been built up around a former dairy shed and has some amusing rural touches. There are 24 powered sites and 55 tent sites. The modern facilities are excellent, with the front part of the camp sharing spacious facilities with _Cowree Lodge_, and the rear camping area has its own modern amenity block. This new block with expansive rural views has a large kitchen, recreation room and sparkling free showers and toilets. The main lodge has a sizable kitchen and lounge with all the trimmings that make it a home-away-from-home. Off the lounge is a large, open-air dining/BBQ patio that once was the rotary yard for the milking station. Dual shower rooms for both sexes, plus an overflow shower and a couple of toilets, are found at the other end of the building. Rest up in the camper_s lounge that has a fireplace, easy chairs and TV. The office/shop carries some basic items and fishing trips and tours can be arranged. Just 7 km north of Whitianga, at the northern end on the right hand side is
this lovely beachfront, paddock park-over for motorhomes. The camp spot
is part of a large working farm belonging to the Simpson family. The site has
no power or toilets but a good spring water supply, and can only take fully
self-contained vehicles. It is dog friendly (must be vaccinated and on leash at
all times) for responsible owners. Margaret and Peter Simpson who live next
door (at 1095) are your hosts and here you can pay your $20 per van per
night. Pack in and pack out - please take you rubbish with you.

This small family-friendly camp is across the road from a safe swimming harbour and 10 minutes walk to a surf beach. The 25 sites are in a pleasant setting with a hedged perimeter, and some sites are among sheltered trees and set back from the road. Facilities include, a kitchen with modern appliances and fridge, ovens etc. This opens out to a pleasant outdoor dining table area complete with TV lounge, an automatic laundry, tidy tiled ablutions with metered showers and two disabled access toilets. Just 20 minutes drive from Thames and 40 minutes to Coromandel, this camp
of many summers is opposite the local hotel which serves food. It has a

the stream or on the beach. There are two kitchens, compact and clean, with
appliances and fridge/freezers. A variety of ablutions (some metered) are

At Tapu, turn inland and head 2.5 km up the sealed Tapu-Coroglen Road (take care as the road is narrow in places). Here, close to the water gardens and sculpture park, you will find a delightful camp with personality in a lovely rural streamside setting. 20 sites with power are tucked into well-planted grounds., There is a smoke house and modern toilets and showers. Picnic and/or cook in the BBQ shelter or make use of the porch kitchen that has gas hobs, pizza oven and a sink. The river has been dammed for a swimming hole. 11 km north of Thames, at the gateway to the western Coromandel coast, this
mature attractive camp, in a garden-setting, offers a range of casual campsites
amongst the well-tended weekenders. Easy access to the beach makes it a
popular spot for boaties, and the camp offers boat parking, a boat wash and

At the entrance are a dairy for supplies and a takeaway shop for nights when

Pauanui can be a little challenging to navigate for the tourist, as there are
minimal information signs. Look for Vista Paku as you come into town
and then follow it nearly to the end. This camp is largely filled with wellkept,
permanent ‘weekenders’ and there are only 7 powered sites for casual
stopovers. The smart camp kitchen is roomy, with modern appliances and fridge/freezer. The bright ablutions have tidy, free showers with plenty of hot
water and a baby’s room with bath and change table. An automatic laundry
and dump station are provided. There is an internet kiosk here. Your hosts

This older-style camp is lush with trees and has a scenic reserve on one
boundary. Just up from the beach and set back from the main road, it’s a
good spot to launch kayaks and paddle upstream or out to sea. The central,
well-used communal area has alfresco dining under a pergola with wood
and gas BBQs on hand. For the indoor cook, the older kitchen has stoves,
microwave, fridges, and opens to a cosy lounge with TV, internet kiosks, books
and a fireplace. The ablutions have ‘curtained-only’ showers ($2) and the small
laundry with automatic machines. Grant is the owner, and Charmaine will

Just a 2 minute walk into town, this attractive tidy complex on the southern
outskirts of Coromandel township has a small, grassy camping area at the rear
that overlooks the tidal flats. It has a kitchen, lounge, BBQ area, and a laundry.
The ablutions offer free showers. Fishing charters arranged. Your host is Tony.

Whangapoua Rd is just before Coromandel town, coming from Kuaotunu. Look for the green 'Tui Lodge' entrance sign. Campers wanting a pleasant rural stopover can camp in and around the complex's leafy gardens and orchards with free fruit in season and make use of the plentiful facilities in the backpacker's lodge. There are spotless unisex bathrooms, 2 kitchens with gas hobs and lots of appliances, a free BBQ and a summerhouse that's great for chilling out in. There is a free laundry, and free bikes. Largest DOC camp in the country. Head north from Coromandel, then take Waikawau-Kennedy Bay Road. Here you’ll find relaxed, comfortable camping, adjacent to a sweeping, sandy beach. The beach is good for swimming, diving and fishing, and bush walking opportunities are nearby. North of the campsite are breeding grounds for the NZ dotterel and variable oystercatcher so please do not drive on the beaches. Facilities available are water from a tap, longdrop toilets, and cold shower Rubbish disposal at Walkaway Bay.

Just south of the golf club on the southern approach to Whangamata, take
Wentworth Valley Road (unsealed with a small ford) for the 5 km drive to this
relaxed, remote, self-registration campsite. From here there are interesting
walks to the Wentworth Waterfalls and the Wentworth Mines, or just take
a dip in the local water hole. The level sites to the rear of the camp are
appealing, with pockets of bush. Only cold water is provided but there is
a shower, also basins and toilets. A gas barbecue and the washing-up sinks
are roofed. Room for around 85 tents, bookings are required in the summer
period. Prior permission from the camp manager is required to bring dogs.

This long-established beach camp is close to 'surf-capital' Whangamata's shopping centre and just 100m from the beach. Intimacy with your neighbour is almost guaranteed in summer with the close proximity of the sites and there are plenty of permanent _weekenders_ in place. Casual campers have good practical amenities spread across three blocks. The large open-plan kitchen has all the essentials; the ablutions have tidy metered showers and there are outdoor (cold) _swim_ showers. There is also a large, well-loved, TV and games room. An automatic laundry, boat wash and dump point are provided. In the peak summer period, you can enjoy organised family entertainment, and there is an on-site general store with a phone. This holiday park is on the site of the old Whangapoua Forestry Headquarters.
It Is located at the top of the Whangapoua Harbour on a large area of flat
rural land. Just beyond the harbour is the iconic Whangapoua Beach and the
stunning world renowned New Chum Beach.The beach has been voted “one
of the top twenty beaches In the world and is an unspoilt paradise accessible
only by foot. Matarangi Beach and two boat ramps are within 10km radius
and there is a café just 200m from the park. No dogs are permitted. The
park is within the Whangapoua Kiwi Habitat zone. A restored modern clean
kitchen has a large sun deck There is an ablution block complete with hot
water showers, toilets and laundry facilities. The camping area is large and flat
so can easily cater for large vehicles. Fresh water is available, wifi available, and
new playground has just been installed. The camp is 6km from the beginning
