The nearest camp to the township of Waiuku, this wee camp is adjacent to
a delightful public reserve and sandy beach at the southern-most point of
Manukau Harbour. The older-style amenities and basic ablutions are clean
and well-kept and a dump station is provided. A modestly-equipped kitchen
includes a laundry alcove. Excellent play equipment for the children and coin
operated BBQs are available in the reserve next door. Next to the camp is a
safe swimming area. Your host is John Crighton. Tent sites are $15 per person,
campsites $35 for two people or powered sites $45 for 2 people.

DESCRIPTION:

7km from Warkworth, Sandspit Holiday Park is designed around family
camping with lots to keep the kids occupied for hours. The camp has its
own little beach and jetty, with a floating pontoon. free kayaks are available.
The games hall has table tennis, soccer and pool tables. Take a walk down
memory lane through the pioneer village of yesteryear. A brand new kitchen
and ablutions block has just been completed. In the kitchen is a huge table
and large doors leading to a covered deck, The ultra-modern showers and
toilet are new. Enjoy your evenings in the BBQ/dining area. Play a game of maxi chess while the meal cooks, meanwhile the children can get friendly
with the donkeys and sheep. An ‘olde’ picture theatre houses the TV room;
maybe spend some quiet time in the camp library. Safe swimming here for
the children plus many other outdoor activities in the area. Wireless Internet
available. Your hosts are Jared and Zena Morrison.

This holiday park has 7 beachfront camp sites at $24 per night ($48 Peak rate) and standard camp sites at $23 per night ($46 Peak rate). There are also hardstand sites for Motorhomes and caravans at $23 per night ($46 Peak rate).

A family owned holiday park set in 32 hectares of beautiful native forest at the foot of the Kaimai Ranges. A haven in the bush bordered by a sparkling stream and complimented by warm thermal swimming pools, all of which are included with your stay. The camping area at the front of the complex has 67 powered sites and a large open field for non-powered camping. The camp kitchen offers the usual appliances and plenty of fridge/freezer space. An automatic laundry annex houses the washing machines and dryers. The main ablutions have been recently redecorated and are tidy with good bench space. There is a second ablution block available near the non-powered field. The recently new owners are continually upgrading the property. All sites cost $18 per adult, $10 per child, and the showers take a $2 coin. Motorhomes Welcome.

Take the road to Scotts Ferry at the main road intersection in Bulls, otherwise you may end up on the wrong side of the river mouth! This small “Camp Inn” is on your left, just as you enter the Scotts Ferry township, tucked up against a stopbank of the Rangitikei River. Well loved by fishermen, the tidy paddock site has innovative ‘Hume tank’ single toilets and showers, with a dozen power points and room for tents. A small, well-equipped kitchen cabin is unlocked for campers to use. New Custodians Frank and Vicki.

The prices effective September 1, 2022. $20 for a powered spot and $15 for an unpowered one. Plus, $2 for a shower and $2 per load. Laundry detergent was provided. Payment can be made online or in cash.

DESCRIPTION:

South of Hot Water Beach, turn off on SH25 at Whenuakite (watch for the big sign) this innovative camp has been built up around a former dairy shed and has some amusing rural touches. There are 24 powered sites and 55 tent sites. The modern facilities are excellent, with the front part of the camp sharing spacious facilities with _Cowree Lodge_, and the rear camping area has its own modern amenity block. This new block with expansive rural views has a large kitchen, recreation room and sparkling free showers and toilets. The main lodge has a sizable kitchen and lounge with all the trimmings that make it a home-away-from-home. Off the lounge is a large, open-air dining/BBQ patio that once was the rotary yard for the milking station. Dual shower rooms for both sexes, plus an overflow shower and a couple of toilets, are found at the other end of the building. Your friendly hosts, Don and Dawn, are happy for campers to help themselves to the fruit trees scattered about (in season). There is also a small office/shop which sells basic items. An internet kiosk is available, and free wifi You can enjoy a tour of the on-site brewery and stay for dinner. Tent sites are $17 to $20 per person, and powered sites $19 to $25 per person. This colourful beachfront camp just north of Mokau township is perched right next to the black sand beach, nicely sheltered by dunes and shrubbery. The camp is traditional style and family friendly., Its river mouth locality offers a choice of freshwater and sea fishing, as well as whitebaiting. Or you can enjoy a long walk on the 3km stretch of beach between Awakino and Mokau Rivers. The camp has over 60 caravan/motor home power sites and 30 tents sites. The well-loved facilities include a bright, but small, kitchen/dining area with TV, which opens to an outdoor dining deck and BBQ. Hotplate or microwave cooking and a fridge/freezer are provided. There is a fish cleaning area for you to prepare your catch. The main ablutions have token-operated showers plus there is an extra toilet block for the far reaches of the camp. A laundry annex at the rear of the main block has automatic washers and a dryer. Plenty of taps means only a short walks to fill up with water. A dump station is available.

DESCRIPTION:

Shakespear Regional Park is right at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula,
and well signposted from State Highway 1. There is a recreational area with
camping a6t Te Haruhi Bay, just a few steps to the beach. There is also a level
area with picnic tables and plenty of cabbage trees, but minimal shade. There
is no power here, but outdoor sinks, cold-water showers and flush toilets with
basins and paper towels are available. No animals allowed in the entire park
as it is an open santuary. The whole place is alive with bird life, and resident
peacocks will share their park with you. Charges are $13 per adult and $6 per
child. There is no charge for preschoolers. There is a designated area for selfcontained
vehicles for $6 and $4 for adults and children respectively. Annual
passes are available for nonpeak period camping. There are no rubbish bins
provided at Auckland Regional Parks, so be prepared to take out all rubbish
when you leave.

DESCRIPTION:

Situated one hour south of Dargaville on the Pouto Peninsular is this working
farm set in a remote location. Campsites are either side of the estuary at
Sheehans Creek. There is no power, or shops, so come well prepared. The
toilets are of the long drop variety and the camp is rustic, but If you wish for
quiet and solitude this is the place to come. Activities include: fishing off the
beach, setting the net for bait and flounders, watching the varied bird life in and
around the creek. From here you can visit the fresh water lakes on the sand
dunes, tramp several different routes or visit the historic lighthouse. Please
phone before coming. Tariff $15 per head per night. Your hosts are Logan

Located just 5kms north of Warkworth on State Highway One and nestled in the beautiful Dome Valley, Sheepworld Campground offers a convenient place to stay. Set in park like grounds with a very rustic charm, we extend a warm welcome to all our domestic and international guests.
The region has a lot to offer with stunning white sandy beaches, marine parks, walking tracks, world class wineries, award winning restaurants, cafes, and other outdoor activities including Sheepworld next door. Just a short 5-minute drive away is the town of Warkworth, where you will find a wide range of shops including supermarkets for all your travelling requirements.
Our facilities include a Cookhouse, Toilets & Showers and a  Laundry. 
 
We are a pet friendly Campground - please discuss with the Camp Manager. Casual arrivals between 8am and 8pm. Please email or phone to book ahead and let us know if you will be arriving outside these times so that we can let you know the site number that you have been allocated. This will enable you to quietly enter the grounds and the Camp Manager will greet you in the morning.
 
We ask that you vacate the Campground by 10am on your day of departure unless other arrangements are made direct with the Camp Manager.

Situated on a strip of beach where Turret Road crosses the Hairini Bridge, the
namesake Silver Birch trees mark out this park. The camp offce at the barrier arm entrance, incorporates an internet kiosk. Although many sites are taken
long-term, there are some casuals available on the water’s edge. If you choose
carefully you can almost fish from your tent! A small boat ramp is available.
Recreation opportunities include a free-form thermal swimming pool, TV/
games room and reading room. The amenities include a tidy centrally-placed
kitchen, well-equipped with modern appliances. The older ablutions have
been modernised and there is an automatic laundry and dump station. Your
hosts are Sharon and Tony .Tent sites are from $20 per person and powered

Just 7 km north of Whitianga, at the northern end on the right hand side is
this lovely beachfront, paddock park-over for motorhomes. The camp spot
is part of a large working farm belonging to the Simpson family. The site has
no power or toilets but a good spring water supply, and can only take fully
self-contained vehicles. It is dog friendly (must be vaccinated and on leash at
all times) for responsible owners. Margaret and Peter Simpson who live next
door (at 1095) are your hosts and here you can pay your $20 for 2 people per
night. Pack in and pack out - please take your rubbish with you.

This campground is Pack In Pack Out. There are no rubbish or recycling facilities for compost or food waste. A container with a sealed lid is recommended for your food scraps.

The closest refuse transfer station is 525 Hauraki Road, Coromandel Town. See Thames Coromandel District Council website (external site) for opening hours and other transfer stations.

A polished park that has beautifully-tended flower gardens and many homely touches! Use the camp as your base to explore the Forgotten World Highway. Try the scenic walkway from the camp to the rhododendron dell. Or the short walk to the local pool and cafes. Around the perimeter, high hedges shelter the grounds and you'll find 30 powered sites, most in private individually hedged bays with their own outdoor seats. Tenters have another 40 or so sites to choose from. There is an updated kitchen with all the necessary equipment and an adjoining cosy TV lounge/dining area. A paved outdoor patio has a BBQ and dining area, or you can relax in the spa pool. The smart ablutions have plenty of hot water and all the extras. A well-equipped laundry and dump point are provided. Internet access and bike hire also available. Pets are welcome. Sites are $16 to $20 per person.

DESCRIPTION:

It maybe back to nature in GBI but you will find a few comforts here. There’s
room for about 14 tents in a grassy area beside the lodge. Campers can
access the lodge restaurant for meals and fabulous Pizzas. You can use the
fully equipped lodge kitchen, hot showers, and flush toilets. Pick-up from the
Great Barrier Island’s Tryphena wharf and Claris airport is by arrangement.
The office and reception is open 9am-12.30 and 6pm-7.30pm. Camping costs
$15 per person per night.

Notes on the following Department of Conservation Campsites on Great
Barrier Island:
The DOC campsites on the island are all in beautiful coastal settings and
adjacent to important wildlife habitats for endangered birds such as the Brown
Teal and Banded Rail. Please do not bring your domestic pets. Cooking
fires are permitted in fireplaces provided at Akapoua and The Green only.
For this reason bring your own portable gas or spirit fuel cookers. No
alcohol is permitted at the campsites. Rubbish may be managed during the
peak summer period only, so ‘pack-in-pack-out’ at all other times. Please do
not disturb stock and shut all gates behind you. To avoid disappointment,
prior booking, registration and payment of fees are essential before arrival.

provided but no kitchen (just washing-up facilities). Your host is Christina and

January period, it otherwise operates as a conference centre and wedding
venue for small to medium-sized groups. Check-in at the Ohope Beach Top
10 main offce. The central amenities block is divided by a pleasant breezeway.
There’s plenty of ‘everything you need’ in the kitchen and the laundry and the
ablutions are superb , all colour-coordinated with extra unisex showers (on
timers) and three disabled access suites.

This small family-friendly camp is across the road from a safe swimming harbour and 10 minutes walk to a surf beach. The 25 sites are in a pleasant setting with a hedged perimeter, and some sites are among sheltered trees and set back from the road. Facilities include, a kitchen with modern appliances and fridge, ovens etc.  This opens out to a pleasant outdoor dining table area complete with TV lounge, an automatic laundry, tidy tiled ablutions with metered showers and two disabled access toilets. A games room. For those with fishing in mind there is a boat washdown and fish station. Your hosts are Charlie and Heather.

Dogs welcome by prior arrangement. Free wifi.  Kayaks, bikes and surfboards are available to hire and free BBQ is available.

From South and Harbour Bridge: exit Esmonde Road. Second left into Barry's Point Road. Carry on to traffic lights and turn right into Anzac St. 2nd roundabout left into Hurstmere Rd. The Promenade is next on right. From North: Exit Northcote Rd. Follow signs to Takapuna. 2nd roundabout left into Hurstmere Rd. The Promenade is next on right. This is definitely a top spot! Absolute beachfront camping, right next to the water - with superb views of Rangitoto Island. The busy Takapuna shopping centre is just a block away, the local beach reserve and boat ramp are next door and there's a new modern cafe at the camp entrance. The camp area is quite open, but the growing palm trees add a tropical touch. The large outdoor deck alongside the kitchen has a gas BBQ, space for dining and spectacular views! The kitchen is powered by gas and has a microwave and plenty of fridge space. A large laundry offers automatic equipment and an ironing board. The ablutions are starting to date, with plenty of mirrors and roomy shower cubicles, including a disabled access suite. A  key combination system operates for access to these services (code available from the office). Other extras include a car wash, internet _caravan_ and wireless hotspot. 25 casual camping sites are available.

of many summers is opposite the local hotel which serves food. It has a

The Forgotten World Highway starts and ends here, and they are a central point for the North Island cycle trails. A dump station is provided and well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement. Follow the signposts from S Hwy 10. There is 11km of sealed road to Taupo Bay. The level lawn sites are partially shaded by trees and lead through to a stunning beach. A well stocked general store is open all day during the holiday season and at weekends but just odd hours in the off season. Eftpos service and a coffee machine are available. The kitchen is roomy with plenty of refrigerator space. There are hot plates and microwaves for cooking while outside is a covered dining area with a BBQ. Here you can sit and watch your children on the play equipment. You’ll find a comfortable carpeted TV lounge where videos are freely available. The ablutions have ample toilets and metered, curtained showers, with liquid soap at the basins. The laundry has automatic washers and dryers. Boats up to 22ft can be launched from here. A boat wash and fish cleaning facilities are available too. Kayaks, snorkelling and fishing gear can be hired. Although summer holidays are busy, this is off-the-beaten-track camping. Powered sites are from $20 per person and tent sites are from $18. Seasonal rates apply.

the bustle of the main tourist strip. This well-tended camp has around 70
sites. most are hedged and dotted with shady silver birch trees and plenty of
picnic tables. The excellent amenities include a sparkling kitchen and dining
area, electric hob cooking, basic cookware, fridge/freezer and lunch bar. A
lovely central flagstone quadrangle has gas BBQ and rustic timber-slab picnic
tables under shade sails. On cooler days head indoors for the TV room,
carpeted and cosy, or the well-equipped games room. Make the most of the
fresh air with the pleasant outdoor thermal pool and children’s playground.
The smart ablutions are light and bright, with excellent showers, a family and
disabled access suite and bathroom extras (liquid soap and paper towels). A
well-equipped laundry, dump station, internet kiosks and wireless hotspot are
provided on-site, and basic supplies in the shop. Your hosts are Carole and

If you are looking for the tranquillity of a remote camp bounded by a variety
of beaches and endless open spaces in harmony with pockets of native bush,
you will enjoy this park. From Warkworth, carry on to Matakana, from here
the park is well sign-posted. Towed caravans are not permitted. This is a lovely
drive and the roading within the park is good. There are delightful picnic spots
and room for 260 campers within the two designated areas. The east campground
is for tents only, and the west campground is for all forms of camping.
No power is available, but there are good clean toilets and taps are found
at intervals. The grounds are well-groomed and level-to-undulating. Access
to the nearest beaches and sand dunes is over stiles. The camp grounds are
within a marine reserve but there are other parts of the park where you can
fish. No dogs or fires are permitted. Sites are $13 per adult and $6 per child.

Look for this park at the foot of the hill, just after you leave Hicks Bay. The
grounds are lush with shady trees and a short walk over the bridged stream,
through the paddock and you are down on the beach. Sites are level with
plenty of taps. The on-site store is well-stocked and has a full liquor licence,
open from 7am till 7pm. There are 80 tent sites, 38 with power. Sea kayaks
and mountain bikes are available for hire and the area is great for a swim,
surf, or fish. Outdoor camp lighting is minimal (good for stargazing) so make
sure you bring a torch. The kitchen has individual preparation areas and
conventional cooking. The basic ablutions have vanity areas and good, roomy
showers. There is an automatic laundry and a car wash is provided. Please
note, drinking water here should be boiled. An on-site food caravan operates
in peak times. There is an on-site shop, bottle store and diesel filling station
too. Your friendly host is Bill. Tent sites are from $15 and powered sites from
$17 per person. Eftpos is available.

swings and the longest flying fox in New Zealand’s holiday park. Bush-clad

Escape to this. unsophisticated retreat located between Okaiawa and Kapuni,
around 12 km from SHwy 3 via Normanby. The historic site dating back to the
Taranaki land wars. Camping is on sheltered, wide-open grounds surrounded
by thick plantings. There are no powered sites. There is a token kitchen with
sink. Outside you will find picnic tables and children’s play equipment. A large
open porch with benches serves as a dining area. There are 3 toilets (one with
disabled access) and no showers. All services are somewhat “rustic”. Cold
water is on tap but no hot water. Gates may be locked at dusk. Fees of $5
per site per night should be paid to PO Box 902, Hawera 1640.

From the Te Kao Store, about 10 km farther north from here you turn east down Paua
Road, then into Te Pua road. There is a plateau of rough grass above sheltered waters on three sides. A landmark bar of gleaming white (pure silica) sand protects this coast. Clear, deep water is around the perimeter, but you will
have to negotiate a bank to the water or try your luck at the boat ramp, unless
the tide is right. Campers must be totally independent.  This appears to be a great fishing spot. Charges are $10 per vehicle per night.

DESCRIPTION:

11 km north of Thames, at the gateway to the western Coromandel coast, this
mature attractive camp, in a garden-setting, offers a range of casual campsites
amongst the well-tended weekenders. Easy access to the beach makes it a
popular spot for boaties, and the camp offers boat parking, a boat wash and
fish cleaning facilities. Powered sites have hard stands for vans, and tents can
be accommodated in a new grassy glade near the rear of the camp. The
central, smart amenities are tiled, with metered showers and there are 3 other
toilet blocks provided. The well-used kitchen has island sinks, with plenty of
appliances; or head outside to the picnic and BBQ shelter for alfresco dining.
At the entrance are a dairy for supplies and a takeaway shop for nights when
cooking is a chore. An automatic laundry and dump station is provided.
Your hosts are Murray and Maureen. Sites from $17 per person per day and
powered sites $19 per person per day . Hard stands available. Seasonal rates
apply
