On the southern aspect of Mt Ruapehu, the alpine town of Ohakune is an alternative gateway to the ski and wilderness areas of Tongariro National Park. This top-notch camp has 55 good sized powered sites, spread across appealing grounds with mature trees and a mountain stream on one border. There is an excellent kitchen, a herb garden, plus a cosy and warm dining area, with a separate Sky TV room with a verandah and a games room. An outside BBQ area has ample tables and a petanque court nearby. The smart, tiled ablutions really showcase the lovely natural timber detailing that features throughout the camp. Simply push a button and you get light, heat and a seven minute shower - they even have heated towel rail! An automatic laundry, internet access and a dump station are provided, while the children have a good play area with trampoline and the private spa is appreciated after a day on the slopes. An all-round camping experience in a glorious location, this classic beachfront position has groomed grounds and well-appointed amenities. The beachfront vista is enhanced by the steaming White Island across the water. For boaties there is a ramp and jetty close by and an on-site fsh-cleaning area. Despite
having 260 sites with power and 120 for tents, this camp can be very busy
in summer. The extensive lawn sites are mostly flat with plenty of trees to
provide shady relaxation or choose from some lovely beachfront sites. A wellstocked seasonal shop means you can easily make use of the inviting stainless steel kitchen that opens to a central BBQ garden/dining area. Immaculately kept ablution blocks include a disabled access suite. There are a host of recreational facilities: tennis/basketball court, a pool and slide complex featuring two hydro waterslide rides and a splash park for the small children, mini golf, an adventure playground, trampolines, jumping pillow and even a beach volleyball court. the beach, this complex offers all-purpose camping for families through to large
groups. Spread across two levels, one holds the services block and the other

There are two sites to camp on Okahu Road, the road end and the larger mid-Okahu camp (formerly known as Grader Camp). The camps are on grass terraces adjacent to Okahu Stream. The areas kahikatea trees were extensively logged and now podocarp are regenerating. Good picnicking and walking in the forest.

DESCRIPTION:

The 6 km detour to Okoroire from Tirau is well worth a visit to the Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel Camp! A restored country hotel and restaurant forms the hub of the community, and administers the delightful little camp nearby. The campsites are nestled on a bush-ringed knoll, with the tinkling sounds of the stream below. There are just 6 powered sites but plenty of room for tents. An oasis of hot thermal pools can be found in a private grotto, there are walking tracks through the bush, and the waterfalls of the Waihou River close by. A 9-hole golf course is right beside the camp. The simple facilities have character, and include separate toilets and a single shower. Campers can access the hotel coin operated laundry and an extra charge is levied for pool use. Your host is Travis Park.

Costs are $20 per adult per Powered Site and $17.50 per adult per Non-Powered Site. Thermal Hot Springs $20 per person per day. Children under 13 years $5 per day. If you stay at the Camp Ground for two nights, the second days entry to the Hot Pools is free.

 A spectacular location, wrapped around the
sheltered Onaero River mouth and surrounded by bush. Its great outdoor
environment, along with limited cellphone coverage, means this is the
ideal spot to get away from it all! Just 11.5km north of Waitara, the
layout of the camp is very user-friendly, with 57 level power sites
and 30 tent sites scattered across well-manicured grounds. The pretty
beach is safe for swimming, has good fishing and whitebaiting and
views out to the offshore drilling rig on the horizon. Three kitchens
mean plenty of room for all and a small shop is onsite for snacks. The
amenities are excellent. The laundries have drying facilities and a
dump point is provided. There is a kids playground. . Your friendly

A pleasant, art-deco-feeling hot spring retreat, tucked up against the foothills
of the Kaimai Ranges. Just 6 km east of Matamata, follow the signs out to

A rustic, beachside camp about 17 km east of Opotiki, it has tidy grounds with 80 sites, 40 with power. You can see White Island from the open sites, which have direct access to the white sandy beach with gorgeous sunsets and great fishing. A tidy communal building has basic amenities and a kitchen without refrigeration. The laundry is an experience with an old wringer washing machine in good working order. The hot water showers are free & ablutions are clean. This camp is run by the Jackson family, who will need cash or cheque only for payment. All tent sites are from $10 per person and powered sites are $12.50 per person per night. Your pet will cost $2.50 with a limit of one dog per group.

A welcoming roadhouse where you can stop overnight for FREE, 13 km east of Kawhia on the main road. Bill your friendly host, is happy for campervans and backpacking tenters to set up in the basic, grassy camping area behind the complex. You can't see it from the road, but the elevated campsite overlooks the pretty Oparau River mouth to the rear. There's no kitchen or shower facilities but you can access the public toilets in the roadhouse. A free dump station too. Stock up in the general store (which has absolutely everything including a lotto outlet and post office), or fill up at the petrol station. Take time out and dine in Brenda's cafe or sample their special KFC (Kawhia Fried Chicken) and homemade pies. Certainly worth calling or a one-stop-shop-overnight-spot! Oh! Yes, they will fill your gas bottle. A great place and great service.

On a pleasant, slightly elevated site this camp is across the road from the
beach. There is a vista of sand dunes and sparkling water from most parts of
the camp. The kitchen has microwave, gas hot plate cooking, 3 fridge/freezers
and opens to a recently extended covered dining deck with a large macrocapa
topped table. The BBQ is free and there is plenty of seating. The ablutions
are positioned at either end of the building and are in a tidy condition. There
is also a children’s play area. Goats around the camp are keeping the grass on
the banks down. Jenny and Harry Barlow are your hosts. Tent sites are $18
per person and with power $20.

Opoutere Coastal Camping is set alongside the Wharekawa Wildlife Sanctuary and broad sweep of Opoutere surf beach. This coastal hideaway is just 5 km from SHwy 25 and less than two hours drive from Auckland airport. The camp is open Labour Weekend to the end of April, and the offce/shop at the entrance offers basic supplies and controls the barrier arm card access way. Choose from a mixture of 25 powered and plenty of non-powered sites spread across bush-ringed grounds. There are two ablution blocks with unisex metered shower cubicles and a disabled access suite. The kitchens have all the usual equipment (no oven) and a covered verandah with BBQ for relaxed, outdoor meals. An automatic laundry and dump station are provided and the camp is suited to large vehicles. Enjoy the bushwalks and beachwalks, mountain biking and kayaking on hand. Half an hour from Hawera, an attractive bush-reserve approach leads to this
beachside camp. Opunake is a traditional holiday spot, with the rest of the
sheltered bay housing the surf club and an artificial surf reef just offshore. Nearby activities include boating, surfcasting, swimming and water skiing.
The grounds are level grass, with 95 powered sites and 10 tent sites in a
ribbon layout. The amenities block has a kitchen with stoves, bench cooktops,
microwaves and fridge/freezers. A TV lounge/dining area has outside dining
under shade sails. There is also a large paddling pool and lots of adventure
play equipment. Supplies are available at the camp shop. Superb toilets/

DESCRIPTION:

An hour's drive east of Auckland airport is this relaxed and well-equipped camp, set in pleasant surroundings with a sparkling river alongside that boasts a large swimming hole and sheltered beach close by. In the attractively-planted grounds you can either find a remote spot or be sociable. The camp is split into two levels, on one level are 110 powered sites, some with permanent weekenders in residence. A central kitchen serves both levels and you can dine indoors or outside in the paved BBQ garden. A porch provides another washing-up area with hot water, fridge and a filtered drinking-water tap. There are several ablutions blocks with generous shower cubicles (metered) with shelves and dry space, hand driers are also available. From tots to teens there are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep them happy all holiday long. Boaties can store their craft here or you can take a kayak out for a paddle. Orewa Beach Holiday Park has been a popular beachfront camp
since its inception around 70 years ago! Located at the southern end of
lovely Orewa Beach, turn at the traffic lights. The grounds are flat, with big
pohutukawa trees, and over 300 power sites. Taps are plentiful. All are
serviced by excellent amenities, splendidly maintained, including disability
toilets and showers. There are sunny kitchen/dining areas plus gas BBQ’s.
Both laundries have automatic equipment. Two alternative recreation rooms give different options for relaxing. There is a boat ramp, dump station, Internet access and playground. No animals here please. Your hosts Karen and Nick

Otautu Bay Farm Camp is a 30 minute drive north from Coromandel town and 10 minutes north from Colville (on mainly sealed road). Colville has a general store and is the most northern stop for petrol/gas and general supplies. The camp which is bordered by a working farm is spread along most of the bay which provides boat launching, excellent fishing, kayaking and a beautiful safe, sandy swimming beach. It is a great place for walking, relaxing and enjoying spectacular sunsets. It is also an excellent base to further explore the northern end of the Coromandel Peninsula. Facilities include a laundry, metered hot water showers and a range of toilet blocks. There is no kitchen, freezer space accessed by arrangement. Bait, water and ice for sale. Camp sites $14 per adult $6 per child up to14yrs. $6 extra for a powered site per night. Pricing subject to change. Eftpos and credit cards (mastercard and visa) accepted. This spacious and well-kept camp is very close to the local amenities on the eastern edge of town. To find it, turn off State Highway 3 either at the supermarket if coming from the south, or just before the railway crossing if coming from the north. The camps modern facilities include: two sparkling, fully-equipped kitchens; unisex individual combined shower and toilet suites plus additional toilets (the amenities block is wheelchair-friendly), and an automatic laundry and dump station. BBQ tables are scattered about the camp and beside the kitchen which has an impressive covered dining area. There is a TV room with internet kiosk. Wifi is available. Take the railway crossing exit off SHwy 1 at Paekakariki. You’ll find this well
established holiday park alongside the impressive beachfront Queen Elizabeth
Park and accessed by way of Wellington Road. The camp’s extensive grounds
have 170 sites, 150 of these with power. Pohutukawa and other shady trees
edge generously sized campsites that are individually hedged for privacy. You’ll

A short drive out of town, take Cobham Road to Inlet Road and turn into
Pa Road. Here you can enjoy the secluded atmosphere of this smaller camp.
There are16 lawn sites with power and shady trees that are very inviting with
direct access, by a bush walk, to town. Sited on the Kerikeri Inlet, there is a jetty
and boat ramp. You can hire kayaks, one of the fully furnished safari tents, or
gypsy caravans with outside baths. The central amenities have a kitchen with
hobs and ovnes. There are unisex showers and an ample supply of toilets.
The laundry has large automatic machines. A good standard of housekeeping
is maintained throughout. The pagoda marquee houses a BBQ. Internet

Pahi Beach Holiday Park is situated on the tranquil shores of one of the most picturesque arms of the Kaipara Harbour.
The Holiday Park sits at the waters edge giving easy access to New Zealand’s Largest harbour.  An ideal spot to launch your
boat at the all tide ramp, fish from the wharf, explore or walk the shores.  You can holiday at our park with your campervan, caravan or tent on our level powered or non-powered sites,or maybe stay in our on-site cabin. Just 1.5 – 2 hours drive from Auckland on  SH1, turning left at Brynderwyns onto SH12 heading towards Matakohe and the Kauri Coast. Take the first left past the Paparoa village and you will find us at the end of Pahi Road.

DESCRIPTION:

In the heart of tui country (the bird and the beer!) this un-crowded camp is
located on the southern edge of Pahiatua township beside two hectares of
native bush. Sheltered by a high macrocarpa hedge, the grounds are beautifully
kept, with open sites of a generous size, some with large shade trees. The
ablutions and kitchen are basic, but lovely and clean. The kitchen has a stock
of pots, crockery and cutlery and the separate dining area is surrounded by
glass sliding doors and outdoor seating. There is a TV lounge also. On a patio
outside the kitchen you will find an automatic washing machine and dryer and
a dump station is provided. There is a BBQ for campers and a children’s play area.

Pets are okay by arrangement only. 18 sites have power and are $25
for two adults, $10 for each extra adult. Tent sites are $10 per adult with
children half price and under 5’s free. Your on-site host is Karolyn. Prices
subject to change.

This long established, charming camp occupies a wonderful site between a safe beach and a boundary of bush. There is a lovely walk from here to Paihia 3.0 km away. This very popular holiday spot has about 90 sites, 58 with power. If you are lucky you can pitch your tent with the water almost lapping at the door. The kitchen, although mainly gas, does have an electric stove. Outside is a large covered BBQ/dining deck, placed to enjoy all the activities in the Bay. Listen up cooks! Pakiri Beach Holiday Park is just to the north of Leigh, this rural camp is right
on a superb east coast beach. The approach takes you along about 3km of
gravel road. Alongside the entrance is an office/store. Security gates protect
the camp from unwanted visitors. The camp is well laid out and the camping
area is spacious, flat and grassed with shelter from the predominant winds.
There are 15 power sites and 90 unpowered sites and a children’s playground
is set up in a tree-shaded corner near the entrance to the park. The basic
TV room adjoins a games room. The lined ablutions are in two blocks, with
roomy 50 cent metered showers plus a separate disability suite. The laundry
has good commercial wash and drying machines, with an annexe for tubs,
babies’ bath and ironing. The kitchen has gas hobs and all other facilities with
a servery to the smart dining room. A picnic marquee is great for summer
dining. No dogs here please. You hosts are Andre and Martie van Schalkwyk
who offer Eftpos. Ask about the kayaks. Unpowered camping sites start at $45. A day visitors fee may apply. Seasonal rates apply.

Tucked on the Manawatu riverbank at the northeastern end of Dittmer Drive, this is manicured park-like camping in the heart of the city. Large trees provide shelter and shade and continue the ambience of the adjacent Victoria Esplanade Gardens where bush walks, aviary, rose gardens, the Lido Aquatic Park, an adventure playground and miniature train will keep the younger family members entertained. There’s room to move, with around 85 tent sites and 75 powered sites - 30 or so with double hard-paved stands, waste and sewerage drop points. The abundant facilities are tidy and clean, with a large TV room and kitchen with electric stove and a number of gas rings. There is an excellent coin-operated automatic laundry, refrigerated lockers. Dump station provided. No animals please and Eftpos available. Your hosts are Sue & Peter and Peter & Raewyn.

An absolute beachfront camp, 15 minutes north of Coromandel. Designed
as a water-lover’s retreat, the camp is ideal for families with safe swimming. It
is bordered by an extensive pebbly beach and a pretty tidal creek. Two boat
ramps and plenty of boat parking are available. Your $3 ramp fee entitles you
to use the tractor, vehicle & trailer parking, fish cleaning facility and boat wash
(sorry, no discount for those who come home fishless!). There are kayaks
for hire, or hire a water taxi. The camp sites are level and have some lovely
pohutukawa trees for shade. The pleasant grounds are liberally dotted with
communal buildings that include a well-kept kitchen with plenty of appliances,
TV and fridge/freezer; a porch-style laundry, good bathrooms with metered
showers, separate toilets and disabled suite access. Stock up at the camp store
that is open daily. Petrol and diesel pumps and a public phone are at the front.

With a broad stretch of white sandy beach at your doorstep, this park has a superb location and stunning facilities. The surf club, beach reserve and village shopping with restaurant and takeaways, are all within an easy walk. The terrain is slightly banked back from the beach, with well-drained, terraced campsites. There are 260 sites in all, 240 with power. Smart kitchens offer wall ovens and microwave cooking, fridge and deep freezers. Three ablution blocks have free showers, a spectacular baby_s bathroom complete with _playful seal_ bath, new disabled access and family suites and a series of well-equipped laundries. The thoughtful layout means these facilities are easily accessible from all areas of the camp. Aquatic Park Holiday Camp is in the thermal heart of the Helensville district, northwest of Auckland. Parakai is well known for its many warm mineral
swimming pools and water slide. The camping ground is adjacent, but quite
separate from the pools. It has a nice playground for children. Sites are level and open with big trees around the perimeter of the camp. Picnic tables and some hard stands for vans are provided. Over 100 sites here, most with power. A clean kitchen has microwave (there is no dining space), but plenty of preparation benches, a stove, hot plates and a fridge. The laundry facilities are excellent. The ablutions have a modest number of good hot showers and toilet facilities, however there is another block near the camp entrance. A good number of permanents are in residence, but there is plenty of space for casual campers. There is a dump station here. A superette, family tavern and takeaway are within a stones throw of the camp. Powered sites are $14 per person and unpowered $12 per person. Campers get a reduced fee to use the pools.

A beautiful motel complex, just across the road from the shopping centre and
off SH1, is home to 22 grass mobile home sites with large mature trees. The
camp amenities are light and bright with a micro-laundry and lounge. There is
plenty to do here with a tennis court, swimming pool, spa and sauna, as well
as a lovely covered BBQ area close to the pool. The Tongariro River with its
abundance of trout is close by, and your catch can be taken care of in the fsh
