Tucked in behind the motel complex are eleven campervan sites on a hard gravel surface, there are no tent sites here. A high fence surrounds the area, giving privacy from the road, and there are some plantings. The kitchen/dining has a full stove and all other facilities, and a BBQ is also available. The lounge area has soft seating, and sparkling clean ablutions also include a hairdryer in the ladies, with large showers and a separate disability suite. There is a 24hr laundry with washing machine, dryer, tub, and a large drying room. A play area is available, the beach is just across the road, and it is a three minute walk to the glow worms. Very close to the township of Kaikoura, this small camp tucked in behind the motel complex has pleasant level sites bordered by trees. A small basic but clean kitchen has tables and chairs, and outside is a covered social dining area. The basic, roomy showers are free, there is a dump station and free Wifi. The friendly manager is Ivy.

Aaron Lodge Holiday Park offers quality camping close to Dunedin City. With 40 power and tent sites in a small and secluded area, most of the grounds are level with some platformed tent sites. A covered walkway takes you to the excellent amenities block, there are two modern kitchens, and each have TV and dining facilities. Abel Tasman Marahau Beach Camp is just a stone_s throw from the delightful beach you will find level sites with some shady spots. On the other side of the road is a well-stocked shop and the camp office. Water taxis leave from here, and kayak hire is available. Start your tramping experience from here or laze on the safe swimming beach. There is a public phone and a post box. In the camping area is a sandy playground for the children and a central amenity block. The large kitchen has a full stove, microwave cooking and in the dining end, a TV and internet station. There are roomy shower cubicles, and a versatile laundry with automatic washers, dryer, ironing equipment, fridges and freezers. A dump station. Eftpos and credit card are some of the facilities. Adjacent to the camp is a licensed restaurant. Your hosts are the Alborn family. All sites are $35 for two people.

This attractive camp is tucked away from the main street behind the lodge complex, and is well sheltered by large, well-trimmed hedges. There are hard and grass stands with a well situated covered BBQ area in the centre, as well as other individual picnic tables. The amenity building has been converted from a small part of a huge historical grain store and is modern and tidy, with sensor lights operating throughout. All amenities are available in the well-presented kitchen, with cutlery and crockery supplied. The excellent unisex ablutions have roomy showers with a disability/family suite available, while the laundry is well equipped. The comfy lounge and dining area is a pleasant area and includes a book exchange, there is also wifi, a spa, sauna, log fire and pool table available. Close to Mt Hutt ski field and right in the heart of the friendly town of Methven, your friendly hosts are Luenne and Alex. Power sites are from $35 for two adults, and tent sites from $30. Westshore Holiday Park is easy-to-find camp on the northern edge of Napier. Set in immaculate and mature gardens, the recent addition of a large, grassed recreational area at the rear of the camp behind the tent terraces is a real asset. There is a flying fox, Trampoline etc. . The camp comprises 70 sites (46 with power) and some all-weather van sites. Children have an enclosed, central play area and there is a pleasant covered dining area set aside for BBQs and socialising. There is a corridor-type kitchen with dining and TV at one end, plus a good selection of kitchen equipment. Two ablution blocks with metered showers have had a spruce-up (plus there is a children_s bath). An automatic laundry is available, as is bike hire and wireless internet. The tavern across the road or adjacent take-away are handy alternatives when it_s your night to cook! Your hosts are Dennis and Brenda.

At the end of Beaumont Road you will find this affordable family camping spot in a picturesque, absolute lakefront setting. Enjoy the boat ramp, jetty and a safe sandy beach all on hand. An adventure playground is provided for the children. Facilities are adequate; the kitchen overlooks the lake and has picnic tables outside and the amenities block is roomy and caters for wheelchairs. A few shady trees dot the grounds and some of the 20 or so spacious powered sites reserved for casual campers have unobstructed beach frontage and peaceful lake views. A conference/recreation room can be utilised and the all-weather BBQ pavilion is a bonus for those long summer nights. Between Reefton and Greymouth, this camp occupies a handy area with
plenty of tent sites available. The grounds have lovely established trees with
a tidy lawn for the tents, and four power sites on gravel. The small kitchen
has an electric rangette, a microwave oven and a fridge. There is only one of each (shower, toilet and basin), basic but clean and nicely painted, although the ladies shower is due a makeover. Dogs are at the caretaker’s discretion, and the washing machine is free.

Where better to base yourself in the Far North than Ahipara Holiday Park that is 5 minutes walk from the iconic Ninety Mile Beach? The settlement of Ahipara is just 15 minutes drive south west of Kaitaia which finds you at this very popular holiday park. Akapoua Bay; Camp in a sheltered bay amongst beautiful pohutukawa trees. DOC office is next door and a wharf, shop, fuel depot and post office are nearby. This is a popular place for families and boaties. Shingle beach. Gateway to track network. A day walk to the impressive kauri dam and good fishing in the harbour.

Situated in the hills above Akaroa village, this park has an enviable location.
Carefully maintained, some of the terraced sites have bay views. Easy access
with trim flowerbeds at each level of the 150 sites. Most have power, storm
water drains and taps. An area is available for boat parking and there are
two dump points in the camp. There is a big in-ground swimming pool on
the upper level and a good children’s playground. Enjoy views over the bay
from the attractive kitchen or use the gas BBQ. TV rooms are provided
and internet access. The amenities include excellent showers and automatic
laundry equipment. It is an easy walk to the township for shopping, but a
climb on the way back. In summer, ice creams and drinks are available at the
office. Your friendly hosts are Kylee and Tracy. All sites are from $40 to $47
for two adults.

Walk-in or boat-in to this beachside campsite on the Tinline to Anchorage section of the Abel Tasman Coast Track. There is no drive on access.

The campground at Akitio is right next to the beach and rumbles with the sound of the sea. The amenities were clean and neat.

There is a small general store for the local residents and campers.

The campsite is mostly used by long-term residents, but there are powered sites available for casual visitors.

Fishing is clearly good, as there is a well-used fish cleaning area.

This self-registration campsite is located near the Clutha River, a few kilometres
from Wanaka. It is popular with summer holidaymakers and strategically placed for
day trips to Mount Aspiring National Park (via Matukituki Valley or Makarora) and
the Queenstown/Arrowtown region. Toilets, taps, rubbish bins and picnic tables
are provided. Price per adult is $7, 15 and under $3.50, children under 5 are free.

Drive over the Waitohi Stream and up the drive to the open grassed area with a railway viaduct above. Children can paddle in the stream, bounce on the trampoline or use the play area provided. The two kitchen and dining areas have full stoves, microwaves and fridges, and two laundries have automatic machines and irons. There are plentiful ablutions with disability facilities and the carpeted TV lounge has a library, pool table and computer area. This camp is close to shops, has a dump station, car wash and fish cleaning facilities available and is pet friendly. Your hosts are Anthony and Denise. This camp is on the shores of the Manuherikia River and landscaped into attractive areas over 37 acres. Trees and flower beds flourish, with willow trees dominant, and a camp store operates in the summer holidays. There is a card phone available and holiday programmes run over the Christmas period. Facilities range from clean, tidy ablution blocks, with a disability bathroom, to a very well equipped laundry. Three kitchens have a full range of appliances and one has _eat-in_ facilities. A camp coolroom is available during summer, with fridges and freezers available at all times. The TV and dining area has an internet kiosk and central heating for the winter. Drive through a small industrial area to this camp where the grounds are
pleasant with fringes of trees in a peaceful setting. The camp has 76 power
sites and ample room for tents. Most sites have some large trees for shade,
easy to access, these sites are only one deep. A swimming pool is available in
summer and a children’s play area. Amenities include a kitchen with full ovens,
microwaves, fridge/freezer and TV, adjacent there are outside BBQs and dining
tables overlooking the play area. The ablution block has dual entry, while the
laundry is well equipped with automatic washing machines, dryer and an iron.
Tent sites from $15 per adult per night and $8 for children. Power sites from
$20 per adult, $10 for children or from $35 for two.

A small picnic area next to Alfred Stream over the bridge from the Rai Valley township. This grassy reserve has lovely flowers and is obviously well cared for, there is a donation box to ensure this place keeps maintained. There is a toilet and a picnic shelter.

A pretty picnic spot under the trees with toilets and water available. Overnight
camping is allowed, with a donation to the Domain Board appreciated.

The recent makeover means fresh paint and new facilities welcome campers, along with the 18 dinosaurs of course. Educational as well as a fun feature, the dinosaurs each have a sign that gives details of their eating habits amongst other information. Just a hop, skip and a jump to the Hannah Bay lake front reserve of Lake Rotorua, the local shops, and the airport, family entertainment is what this place is all about. Facilities include an excellent toilet and shower area, as well as a sparkling kitchen area. Mature trees are scattered throughout this spacious camp, 75 powered sites have hedged borders and a large, open grass area with 25 tent sites. If the children get bored with the amazing playground, and onsite bouncy castle, there is always the recreation room which includes Sky TV and a dining room with wireless hotspot and internet kiosks. There are also kayaks and bikes for hire, tree huts and an under 10 year old children\'s room. Of course the first port of call will probably be the large indoor heated swimming pool with a retractable roof, or the toddler pool and a spa for the grownups. Located at the Gateway to Rakiura National Park,NZ`s most Southern Private Bush and Wildlife Reserve on Stewart Island.

At the end of the road, 2km from Hanmer Village, is this extensive park with
spacious sites and lovely mountain views. Well-serviced with sealed roads
and over 60 campsites, there are also large trees for shade. The clean kitchen
has all appliances with a dining area next door, as well as BBQ tables outside
under shade sails. The ablutions are excellent and have a disability unit, there
is also a drying room opening off the laundry. The separate games room has
table tennis, pool and air hockey as well as arcade games, and you won't find a
better children's playground - it comes complete with an initiative course! For
those who want to relax, there is a comfy TV lounge with an internet station,
a petanque pit, or cool off in the swimming pool. There are bikes available
for hire, both children and adult sizes available. Wireless internet and a dump
station are here for campers, and your hosts are Alan and his team. Tent sites
are $30 for two, power sites $35 for two.

With bike tracks through the forest at your door, this well sheltered camp ground with plenty of room for both tent sites and good flat areas for campervans. The ablution block is well presented with excellent step up showers, and the kitchen/dining includes a full stove and an internet station. Kitchen utensils are handed out when you book in, complete with tea towels and dishwashing liquid. Seating is provided under the trellised verandas, and there are free gas BBQs scattered around the lawns as well as a laundry. The whole complex is sparkling clean, light and airy, and all the blocks are linked by covered walkways. The drinking water is fresh from a spring, fill up your van or empty it at the dump station provided, a recycling station is also here.. This is campground has a lovely atmosphere, from the playground, badminton and volleyball nets provided, to the photos on the wall in the office that shows how the campers have fared over the years. There are bushwalks and mountain bike tracks in the area, or if that is too adventurous you can browse through the swap library, or the hot pools are only a couple of minutes away by car. Lee and Greg are your welcoming hosts. Tent and unpowered sites are $15 per person and 16 powered sites are available at $32 for two.

This camp is well presented and designed with care and thought. Camping is
on level ground, divided by limestone drives. The trees and fencing help with
privacy. Picnic tables are scattered around the sites. An excellent, clean all-in one service block with tile floors, a fully equipped kitchen , toilets, shower, and a laundry with auto machines and an internet station. A large covered deck
around two sides has table & chairs and Sky TV. A separate covered area has
a BBQ and adjacent is a landscaped pool and spa area. Your friendly hosts are
Lee and Struan. Tent sites from $40 for two, power sites, from $44 for two.

About 2km south of Hornby, and close to Templeton shops, is this camp on the
edge of SH1, with a number of long-termers and home-base buses, although
there is still the odd spot for the holidaymaker. Amenities include a TV room,
three kitchens, an ablution block (with disabled facilities) and a laundry. A gas
BBQ is available, and there are powered sites near the office for late arrivals.
A nearby garage has takeaway food or you can eat at the hotel, and there is a
dump station. Your hosts are Bob and Carol Christie. Powered sites are $45
for two people, with tent sites from $25 for two.

Two large sheltered areas with a scattering of trees, you can see and hear the
beach, but unfortunately stop banks means you can't see it. The northern end
of the camp boasts a new toilet block, with a unisex shower that doubles as
a disability unit. There is also a solar shower room available, complete with
rope and pulley.  On the southern side of the camp, is a basic but clean block
of toilets and a dump point, water is also available but as it is gravity fed it takes
a while to fill a tank.  There are wood BBQs, a tennis court, children's play
area and rubbish collection. You can bring pets but to the southern side of
the camp only please. Tent sites are $5 per adult, or with power $15 for two  adults, and $5 for each extra adult, while children are $2. An honesty box and
self-regulation system is in place.

With a small pond and large trees set on well-manicured lawns, there is plenty of shelter for the campers. Modern ablutions are all spotless with an excellent disability/family suite. The kitchen/dining area has electric hobs, fridge/freezer and microwaves, and one of the sinks has been lowered to help people in wheelchairs. All utensils are supplied. The laundry has large washing machines and dryers with a charge for their use, and the sociable covered BBQ area is well used by guests. Tent sites at the top of the park are made private with individual hedges between each site. Pets are welcome and wifi is available, your hosts are Mike and Steph. There are 40 power sites and numerous tent sites. Power sites are $35 for two, and tent sites $20 per person.

Ambury has basic, flat camping with toilets and drinking water nearby. There are ten hardstands available on a first-come first-served basis.

In dry weather campervans or motorhomes can park anywhere in the campground.

After Mangere Bridge town centre, follow Kiwi Esplanade to this farm park.
The grounds are level and spacious, and there is a notable wading bird habitat.
There are also significant natural and cultural heritage sites here. Campsites
are $15 per adult and $6 per child. There is a designated area for self-contained
campervans. Annual passes are available.

Walk-in or boat-in to this beachside campsite on the Waiharakeke to Whariwharangi section of the Abel Tasman Coast Track. There is no drive-in access.

The first camp at Anatori is a high camp by the beach which is popular but there isn’t much space. Right on the edge of the Anatori River Mouth it’s quite exposed and not really suitable for large vehicles.   If you travel a little further you will come to the river, where there is plenty of room. It’s  flat with easy access and has a safe, shallow river with a good swimming hole. This site is more sheltered, however apparently it’s prone to flooding during heavy rain.

To get to the end of the road, from the Anatori river, cross the ford and travel about 12km to the Turimawiwi River.

When you hit Anaura Bay turn north and head up the tar sealed road to this
relaxed, family, beachfront camping area in a fenced paddock beside a stream.
Great swimming and coastal bush walks are to be had from here. This basic
campground is open between Labour weekend (October) through to Easter.
This is back-to-basics camping. No toilets are provided. You also need to
bring your own portable cookers or barbecues and don't forget a chemical toilet. (a dump station is provided in the peak season). Other facilities include rubbish collection and tap water (not suitable for drinking).

Turn east off SHwy 35, beside the Raponga River bridge, onto the road to Anaura Bay. The road is fairly steep but is sealed all the way and your reward is a magnificent sheltered beach at your camp doorstep - with views to nearby Motuoroi Island. We have 70 unpowered and 30 powered sites, 18 of which are prime beachfront positioning (Captain Cook landed here in 1769). The large, well-equipped kitchen is to be found in the historic school building that has a nice sheltered verandah running along the front with great sea views. The camp store is open 7 days during the peak season. Two blocks of ablutions (Wahine and Tane) have showers and toilets. There is also an outdoor swim shower and basins. Children have a play area. There is an automatic laundry. Pets are welcome only in off-peak times. Fishing (beach and boat), diving and crayfishing in the vicinity are excellent.  Wifi is available. Seasonal rates apply.

This neat clean well maintained holiday resort, just 17 minutes drive north of
Coromandel Town, offers an inviting welcome to the tired traveller. Set up
camp on one of a series of elevated grassy terraces with bush backdrops and
relax whilst enjoying the uninterrupted sea views. A delightful, rocky stream
borders the camp and the beach is just across the road. The amenities are
compact but immaculately clean and well presented.. The kitchen has 2 stoves
and fridge/freezer, or cook up an outdoor feast in the large hexagonal enclosed
BBQ pavilion, complete with 2 central BBQs and lots of tables and seating.
Whilst you’re enjoying dinner, you can watch the kids splashing about in the
adjacent swimming pool and spa area. Free showers are provided, there is an
automatic laundry available. As the name suggests, fisherfolk are well catered
for with ‘on-site’ fishing charters, a water taxi service, dinghy hire and bait tackle
for sale. The office shop sells the basics and there is a poolroom/TV lounge.
Your hosts are Ann-Charlott, Thomas, Johan, Emilie and Malin. Of the 22 sites
available 14 have power.

Well signposted and just off the highway 1 km north of Norsewood, is a lovely
little glade snuggled into a backdrop of bush. There is a rustic dining shelter,
rubbish collection, two basic flush toilets and an outside tap provided. The
water is not suitable for drinking. Do not light fires here. This is a council
facility for short-term camping. $2 per night.

This is a walk-in campsite on the Heaphy Track. On fine days following rain, Mt Taranaki can seen in the distance.

Aotea Lodge has eight powered sites for campervans with the use of toilets
and showers attached to the laundry (there is a small fee for the use of the
laundry). There is a wireless hotspot and internet kiosk in the reception
area. The main complex swimming and spa pool with a conservatory are
at your disposal and there is an on-site restaurant and café. Close to the
Porirua shopping area and a short motorway journey to Wellington and the
Interislander ferry. Your hosts are Peter and Pat. Tariff is $35 for two people
on a powered site and $30 for 2 people on a non powered site. Extra adults
are $15, children $10.

At the gateway to the Ruahines sits a charming rural village called Apiti. Here you'll come to find the Apiti Tavern, a stunning building on a location which originates back to 1896. Inside, the tavern is alive with history, showcasing photographs on the walls of Apiti through the years. Locals with a thriving community heart give this place a welcoming atmosphere, unique to the rural country life.

The camp is directly behind the Aramoho Hotel pub and TAB and beside the
river and the railway line. The cluster of permanent living caravans and house
buses, and the back yard bits and pieces around the place give the camp a
lived-in, rather than a holiday feel. The ablutions and kitchen are basic. Tent

Arapohue Bush Camp Trust runs the Reading for Rascals programme at Windy Ridge Boys Farm, Warkworth.

It is an alternative programme run by Graham and Joan Crawshaw for boys struggling to achieve literacy in the traditional school environment.

The couple opened their first camp in 1962 on the family farm near Dargaville and have been working with underprivileged children ever since.

Aroha Island is a 12ha sanctuary in the Kerikeri Inlet and is a short 12km
drive north east of Kerikeri, in the stunning Bay of Islands. A causeway
links the island to the mainland, providing permanent and convenient vehicle
access. It is a natural haven with a wide diversity of New Zealand plants
and birds including the rare North Island Brown Kiwi.
Stroll the private beach, kayak the inlet, take a bush walk, look for birds
and check out the information in the Eco Centre. We offer a range of
accommodation including our campground, bush cottages and our inlet view
Kiwi Lodge…. so come and stay for a night or two and have the chance to see kiwi in their natural habitat.
Aroha Island offers camping on one of our two beautiful campgrounds.

The modern ablutions have a disability/family suite and are spotless, while the large modern kitchen/dining has all amenities and opens to a covered outside BBQ area with coin operated BBQs. There is a well-equipped children_s playground on the edge of a large field where you can practice your rugby kicks, or play a game or cricket. This camp is currently a camp in two halves, with the older section slowly being phased out and a new section coming online. The older section of the camp is beside the many attractions of Tinwald Park and has plenty of level sites,
with large mature trees for shelter. The kitchen with dining area included, is functional and clean, there are also BBQ tables outside. Ablutions are all older but still clean, and include disability facilities. There are automatic machines in the laundry and a dump point, a separate building houses a functional TV lounge and internet. Free electric BBQs and picnic tables dot the grounds, and eftpos and email are available at the office. The newer section of the camp has been purpose built and includes both gravel and grass spacious sites, with sumps and water taps at each. There are ablution blocks only here at the moment, both brand new, clean and modern. The adjacent domain includes a swimming pool,

Ashhurst Domain is..

Paradise found is the slogan for this camp, and how right they are. What a beautifully situated camp this one is, within the foothills of the Mt Thomas Forest Conservation Area, this four star Qualmark park is amongst 12 acres of native bush and has the Ashley Gorge River within its bounds. The campground is part of the Ashley Gorge recreation area and is close to many popular walking tracks and good fishing in the river. Amongst the tent and power sites are many shady trees, lots of room and very peaceful. There is a dedicated pet camping area, none are allowed in the rest of the campground though. A clean, tidy kitchen and dining area has hobs, microwaves and fridge/freezer. Ablutions have excellent showers with funky coloured doors and vanities, and there is an automatic laundry. The standard of cleanliness in this camp is very high, you can tell that hosts Sally and Wayne love what they do. The kids will enjoy the playgrounds and are welcome to bring their bikes, there are also blow up tubes for hire to go down the river on. A great place for larger groups with exclusive use of some facilities available, and one of the added attractions is the late checkout in the off season. Eftpos is available as is wifi, and a good camp shop.

Ashley Park is just south of Waitotara, between Patea and Whanganui, is this working farm complex offering a range of experiences for campers. Aside from the picturesque lake, gardens and walks, there is a swimming pool, tennis courts, mini-putt golf, bird aviaries and lots of friendly farm animals who like a scratch! An antique shop and cafe tea-shop invites you to linger. The 24 powered sites are densely hedged with camellias and rhododendrons. Unlimited tent sites are available around the park. The facilities are extensive and include a disabled access suite. A large dining room with log fire adjoins the well-equipped kitchen and you'll find a wood-fired BBQ too. A dump point is provided.

Situated at the northern end of Tauranga Harbour, Athenree Hot Springs Park has picturesque grounds, with mature trees in a superb waterfront location. Choose from a number of powered or tent sites some with water views. Thermal water from a deep bore feeds a sparkling swimming pool and soak pool, both set at comfortable temperatures and available free to campers. There are two smart amenity buildings and a modern kitchen with microwave, conventional cooking appliances and refrigeration. A pleasant communal BBQ area with water views is annexed off the kitchen. You can get your supplies at the camp store/office and enjoy the holiday entertainment on offer. Athenree Lavender and Holiday Park is a family camp conveniently located beside SHwy 2 in the Athenree Gorge, 10 minutes drive to either Waihi in the north, or Katikati in the south. The office/Lavender Gift & Doll shop is situated beneath the popular Flip ‘n Bear café. Cross the bridge and set up camp on several grassy plateaux or on a larger open area divided by attractive lavender hedges. One side of the park is bounded by natural bush and the other by the Wairau Stream. There are 56 powered sites with plenty of taps, unlimited tent space and a number of ‘permanents’ in residence. A central amenities block has a somewhat empty modern kitchen, plus inside and outside dining. The smart ablutions have free showers, a disabled access suite and an automatic laundry. Autumn Farm is a boutique gay friendly campground just 3kms from Takaka township, and walking distance to the world famous Paynes Ford natural rock climbing area. Nestled within an exquisite three acres of private garden are 14 campsites amongst beautiful trees and manicured gardens. Popular with naturists, facilities include a laundry, kitchen, composting toilets, communal bathroom, and a plunge pool in summer. Note that this is a queer space with an international reputation, be yourself and respect others. Reservations are essential, all sites are $25 per person and your hosts are Peter and Pete.

This standard camping site is just off the main road in the Arthur’s Pass village, almost directly opposite the visitor centre.

Seasonal restrictions

Avondale Motor Park is a quiet urban camping, just 10 km from the city and within handy driving distance of Auckland_s main attractions. Head down a long sealed driveway, to well-kept grounds that open out behind the surrounding houses. Mature trees and a stream enhance the garden setting with grassy banks along one boundary. The stand-alone kitchen is airy, with a metered wall oven and microwave and gas-ring cooking. There are separate TV and internet rooms. An outdoor pergola has a picnic table and chairs on a flagstone terrace. A smart and immaculately kept ablution block has roomy free showers, a hair dryer and shaving points. There is a laundry with plenty of automatic equipment and an iron. Children have a great play area with a flying fox and trampoline. A dump station is available and the supermarket and city bus stops are handy. Your hosts are Anne and Krijn and Adrian and Jenny. A busy store and information centre greets you as you enter Awakeri Hot Springs, set in a tranquil, park-like setting. The mature grounds have a bush backdrop, with 100 powered sites and 20 tent sites. Campers have free access to two, covered, outdoor, heated swimming pools as well as the private mineral pools. (Changing room include heated floors). The alleged therapeutic properties of the soft mineral waters attract many day visitors to the park. Beside the pool complex is a modern BBQ garden with a well-lit covered dining area, great for late evening get-togethers! Play volleyball or lawn tennis, go for a bush walk or check your email using the wireless hotspot. Top marks for a superb, gleaming kitchen! Awana Estuary is on the east coast of Great Barrier Island. Get there via the
Auckland car ferry and then a rough gravel road (dry weather access only).
Camp on an undulating site next to the Awana Stream (take your mozzie
repellent!) and close to one of the island’s most famous surf beaches. This
camping area has a covered outdoor eating shelter with a sink and water from
a tap for washing up, toilets, cold shower and rubbish collection, but no shade. With room for around 60 tents, bookings are required all year round.

Walk-in or boat-in to this campsite on the Mosquito Bay to Awaroa section of the Abel Tasman Coast Track. There is no drive on access.

Mangaweka is halfway between Wellington and Taupo and this unique camp is located 1km off SH1 alongside the peaceful Rangitikei River with towering cliffs, native birds and an enticing landscaped garden. Just north of the township turn east onto Ruahine Road and travel down the hill, over the bridge and immediately into Awastone. There are 12 powered and 4 non powered sites suitable for tenting or campers/caravans. The facilities are well appointed with nice wooden ablutions, shared kitchen and nicely linked by concrete paths. Also included is wifi, potable water, hot showers and an onsite licensed cafe (seasonal). An outdoor hot tub is available to hire. Laundry services have an extra cost too. Powered site costs $48 for the first two people and $10 per extra adult. $5 per child under 16 and under 5 is free. Bookings are recommended. 

Just off State Highway One in Seddon, 25km south of Blenheim, is a camp run by the Awatere Community Trust. Hedges along three sides provide shelter for the flat open camping area. The facilities are clean and tidy and the kitchen has a fridge, two full stoves and microwave. Showers and toilets and a disability suite are provided and your pets are welcome. The camp is adjacent to a children's playground and a huge swimming pool. This stopover is a 5 minute drive to local shopping and 10 minutes to a vineyard and golf course. There are 14 power sites and several tent sites and a dump point available. All sites are $12 per person for non-powered site and $15 per person for powered site. For keys and payment call at the Information Centre in the shopping mall.

Off Brook Road, between Waiuku and Manukau Heads, There is a vast choice
of sites within two defined areas, the Brook camping ground or the Peninsula
camping ground. It is all basically level with grassy sites and clusters of trees.
Although it is a coastal camp, the two beaches are reached by short walking
tracks. There are clean toilets, water and BBQs. No animals are permitted.
There is an attractive nine-hole golf course alongside the park. Camping is
$13 and $6 for adults and children respectively. There is a designated area for
self-contained vehicles. Annual passes are available.

At the top of the Tahora Saddle is a camp ground with fantastic views to the
Central Plateau including Mount Ruapehu. Use the camp as base to explore
the historic trails of the Forgotten World Highway. The campground has no
powered sites but is in a lovely bush setting with simple facilities of a long drop
toilet (with a view!) and a BBQ kitchen. Up near the house there are hard
standing powered sites and a high quality bathroom with hot shower which
can also be used by those camping on the lower area. of the campground.
There is a new outdoor covered kitchen. Your friendly hosts are Rob and
Annie. Unpowered sites are $12 per person, powered hardstand van sites, $25
for 2 people. Excellent rest point for cyclists. Please cash only.

The accent here is on comfort, cleanliness and convenience. 24 power sites
are on level gravel, while tent sites are plentiful on the lawns. The grounds
are well lit at night and the camp includes an attractive and spotless kitchen/
dining/lounge. This well-equipped space has all appliances, cooking and eating
utensils, and you can watch the huge flat screen TV while you cook and eat. Sit
outside and enjoy the sun on the paved dining deck. The clean ablutions are
roomy with excellent appointments, gas hot water showers and a disability
unit. A well-equipped laundry with two washing machines, plus a dump point.
Just a short walk to shops and services of Balclutha, your friendly host is John
McGowan. One person $18, two for $36, add $10 for each extra adult.

A large flat area with many beautiful trees, scattered BBQs, and water taps
spaced throughout the park.  No problem to find a park, its a huge area.

You will find a clean toilet block with a disability suite, but take your rubbish with you as this is a zero rubbish camp. A dump point for porta potties only is available and there is a fire ban in place December 1st - March 31st.  The will cost you only $5 per family and season tickets are also available, $70 per annum for frequent users. A huge domain camping ground that wends its way around a sports field in
the centre, before moving out to shaded spots under the trees. The old style
kitchen and ablution blocks are still there, but a new block has also been added
with modern and clean facilities throughout. The ablution block includes a
disability suite with free showers on timers, while the modern kitchen/dining
has all amenities including full stoves and a comfortable seating area…and a
bottle chiller fridge that holds books instead of drinks. The other smaller, basic
kitchen has stoves and fridges and a small TV room adjacent, and in the laundry
are six automatic washers. Next door is a tennis court, upmarket children’s play area and bowling green, and a café and hotel are close by. Go walking or
biking or visit the many historical gold mining areas. Eftpos available here, and
your on-site hosts are Jane and Stewart Scott. All sites are $15 per night per
person, children under 12 years are free.

Battle Hill Farm Forest Park is an attractive Regional Park campsite is reached off the Paekakariki Hill Road only 6km north of the Pauatahanui intersection. Enjoy the wide open spaces of rural Wellington and camp in a grassy little dell surrounded by hills and bush and complete with friendly woolly lawnmowers (sheep)! The 500 hectare farm park is a haven for picnickers, walkers, cyclists and horse riders and has many historical features that date from colonial times. Paddle with the kids in the small campside stream or take a walk to the old battle site at the top of the hill, following the new interpretation trail. Basic toilet and basin facilities (with wheelchair access) are cold water only and there is a drinking water tap. Gas BBQ_s are permitted (BYO). Because of the livestock and protected wildlife here, no dogs are permitted - even in vehicles. This park is closed at night and served by an on-site ranger. Camp fees are $6 per adult and $3 per child (16 and under). For group bookings, check with the ranger.The maximum number of campers is 60 people.

Bay of Islands Holiday Apartments & Campervan Park, is a delightful small boutique park has 28 campervan sites (17 powered and 11 unpowered). It comes complete with new ablution block which is very spacious and clean and laundry with washing machine and dryer The showers are $2 metered.. It is 250 meters from the beach, three minutes to Haruru Falls, close to the supermarket, two kilometers to the golf course and 1 kilometer to Paihia Village. Easy to find, this large park is beside the Waitangi River, and an easy drive to
Paihia approx. 6 km away At the entrance is a well stocked shop and office.
The grounds are level with lovely mature trees, a children’s play area, flying fox,
swimming pool and BBQ. The river is safe for swimming, you can hire a kayak.
The main kitchen is very pleasant, light and airy with absolutely everything.
Adjacent is a roomy dining/lounge/TV area with a DVD. In addition to
communal fridge/freezers, refrigerated lockers can be hired at $2.50 per day.
A second kitchen is basic and is next to the ablutions The laundry is well
equipped with automatic machines. A few dining spots are set on the banks

Walk or mountain bike in to this backcountry campsite in the Marlborough Sounds. Access is from the Queen Charlotte Track. There is no drive in access.

Just 8 kilometres north of Napier, turn off the main Highway onto Hill Rd,
then turn left onto Patene Road. You will find this camp ground behind the
Bay View Hotel. Great surfcasting 5 minutes away. Central to the camp
is an octagonal service block with semi covered dining area with a fully
equipped covered outdoor kitchen, BBQ, laundry and unisex ablutions and
large showers with disabled access. There is a TV lounge with wifi internet,
and dump station. An onsite bar supplies meals and refreshments. Enjoy a
pig on a spit on Sunday evenings, from 6pm, bookings preferred. All sites are

Discover Baylys Beach just north of Dargaville. This magnificent mega-beach stretches as far as the eye can see. Although the camp is not beachside, it has pleasant level lawn sites with large perimeter trees. Camping is on 22 sites with power; some have hard stands. Tent space is plentiful. The kitchen is large, with plenty of eating areas both inside and out, and cooking by hot plates, and microwave. A fridge/freezer is provided. A BBQ pavilion has a gas BBQs and a sink. Children have a playground. The ablutions are very clean with good free showers, towel, liquid soap and hand dryers at the basins. The laundry has automatic washing and drying equipment. Nearby is 7 day shopping with two shops, a licensed caf_ and a licensed general store, or visit the Funky Fish. You can hire golf clubs at the camp and there is a dump station for paying guests only. Your hosts, Trish and Mark Rolfe will tell you about Waipoua Kauri Forest trips, and horse treks. Hire a quad bike and see more of the beach. Park your motorhome within a few steps of the main street, or put your tent up in one of the little gardens tucked away between the buildings. This quirky little hostel come campsite has some amazing murals scattered around, and see if you can spot the topiary kiwi in the garden. You can enjoy two large, well-stocked kitchens, two lounges, and free movies and wireless internet. The showers and toilets are unisex, and a public laundromat is right next door. The hostel has a relaxed atmosphere with free sports equipment, mountain bikes, surf boards and surf trips available, run by the onsite surf school. Beach Road Holiday Park is 45km from Waipukurau and is close to both the beach and river where swimming, surfcasting and water-skiing are popular pursuits. The grounds are level, with some gum trees for shade and plenty of permanents in residence. A mini putt course is near the office and there are BBQ and fish-cleaning facilities. The kitchen is open-plan and has TV, dining, books and easy chairs. The cooks corner has a full stove plus extra hot plates and microwaves. There is an outdoor BBQ area beneath a shade sail and a small children's playground. 5km up the road you will find a dairy in the village, a pub and a garage. You can hire kayaks and golf clubs here to explore the river or have a round of golf at the nearby course. The ablutions are roomy and have a separate disabled access suite. A well-manicured park, just across the road from the lovely Papamoa Beach. Enter through the security gate to landscaped grounds. Although leased ground limits casual camping, site space is generous and the on-site shop has ice-creams and sweets. A children’s playground and a BBQ are provided. A small rural campground to the side of the Beaumont Hotel, and next to the river. With about 16 sites on flat land, the camp has recently changed ownership and Is in the process of being upgraded. The small camp kitchen has all amenities and hotplates, ablutions are clean and tidy, and a dump point is provided. This is a good stopover for hunters and fishermen who can relax in the beer garden and tell tall stories, or a good place to rest in after cycling the Clutha Gold Trail which Is metres away. The picturesque Belt Road Seaside Holiday Park urban camp offers level, cliff-top sites with spectacular views over the New Plymouth harbour and port. Mature Pohutukawa trees shade the grounds. Hedged private sites are very inviting. There are around 70 sites with power, plus 43 for tents. Amenities are plentiful and well maintained. Ablutions are in four separate blocks with key access (no extra to pay) and two disabled/family bathrooms are available. Newest communal facility, boast unisex cubicles, including a family bathroom and a disabled bathroom, super large kitchen, laundry, and a lounge with Sky TV (Sports and movies) The three kitchens have a range of cooking options, coffee and food dispensing kiosks and there_s a large covered outdoor area with a coin-operated BBQ. Overlooking the gorge, and with the Buller River just across the road, you will get lovely views from this camp. Sites are behind the licensed cafe/hotel/backpackers, plenty of room on grassy paddocks, or park your van in the carpark. You share the kitchen and bathroom facilities with the back-packers, and you will be glad of the large modern shower and toilet cubicles. Lots of things to do here, walk up Berlin_s Hill, or over to the river, have a bite to eat in the cafe, relax in the garden, or have a drink in the pub. What a lovely setting this camp has, nestled in a sheltered valley with native bush and only a few minutes from Kaiteriteri beach. This peaceful park-like camp is only a short drive to the start of the Abel Tasman track, and you can enjoy kayaking, swimming and tramping from here. Lots of space to choose from; larger groups take advantage of the communal hall in one camping area over the summer period, while another is open all year round, or you can get back to basic camping in the wilderness area and experience long drop toilets. Plentiful ablutions no matter which area you decide to camp in, all spotlessly clean and of good quality. The covered deck where you can sit in the shade and watch the children on the playground, is just one of the family orientated facilities available here. There is also a comfortably furnished lounge and a good dining area, and fully automated laundry facilities. A children_s programme operates at Christmas time and there are other summer activities such as music, movies in the hall and a water slide. Also in summer only is an onsite cafe, a real fruit ice cream truck that also sells fruit and veges. Bethshan is situated right on the beachfront at Algies Bay, approx 1 hour north
of Auckland. To get there take State Highway 1 to Warkworth through to
Snells Beach and continue on the main road to Algies Bay. Look for the
camping sign. Turn left into Alexander Road then right at the bottom of the
hill into Willjames Ave. Bethshan is the end of the Willjames on the lefthand
side. Wrapped in beautiful native bush, it encourages a variety of native birds.
Cooking for tenters is by way of modern barbecues. The ablution block is
modern and clean and showers are free, as is use of the internet, laundry,
kayaks dingies and sailboats. Get away from it all and experience fishing and
boating. There are 16 sites with power $20 per adult per night and children

A pleasant 30 minute drive to the tip of the Awhitu Peninsula brings you to Big
Bay. (approx 90 minutes from Auckland) This relaxed kiwibatch/holiday park
is across the road from the white sandy beach and a sheltering bluff. The only
shop in Big Bay is found at the entrance to the camp. This new building houses
the camp office and 7-day general store and behind it can be found the new
camper’s pizza oven and outdoor dining area. Take-aways are available in the
summer. The older-style homely kitchen has hot plates and microwave and
plenty of fridge space. The modernised ablutions have metered showers, a
disabled access suite and an automatic laundry. Pets by prior arrangement and

Big Bush Holiday Park is permanently closed.

Situated next to Balgownie Wetlands Walkway, the self-contained units offer clean, tidy and affordable accommodation. The rooms are serviced daily and there is plenty of on-site parking available.  Access units are available, just advise your specific needs. Less than 1km (½ mile) from Gonville Shopping Centre where you will find a mini-mart, doctor's surgery, library, post office, etc. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement for a small additional fee. dominates both bays on each side of the isthmus. Water taps are at all 40
power sites. There are 2 blocks of clean basic ablutions. The showers have
$1 tokens. The kitchen is small but clean. Automatic laundry equipment is
provided. The camp store has Eftpos and is open longer hours, during peak
season. Extra charges apply for waterfront sites: beachfront powered sites $22 per person, non
powered $20 and rear tent sites are $21 for power and $19 non powered.

Located in Little Waihi, this estuary-ringed camp has large, open, level sites bordered by water on two sides. The estuary provides a scenic backdrop, as well as safe swimming and launching for small boats. There is a shop that sells the basics for every campers needs. Campers have access to two kitchens with stoves, microwave and fridges. There are two laundry facilities and two sets of ablutions - with metered showers. There are 100 powered sites and 45 tents sites with 14 cabins as well - well suited for fishing enthusiasts or, surfies or divers.

Not many sites available on the edge of this busy backpacker complex, and small vans only due to parking room. This is a young person's paradise, looks like a great social atmosphere. Has all the normal amenities that are needed, a bit messy but not too bad. A pool to cool down in, and a very sociable outside BBQ area, as well as an outside covered porch area to grab a book or answer your emails. Your host is Barry.

This is a large park set over two distinct areas, divided by SH1 and bordered by a meandering river. The main camping area is by the river with tree plantings that divide many of the power sites. The grounds are level and spacious with many shady trees and about 160 sites to choose from. This area has its own excellent amenity blocks with kitchens and dining, ablutions, laundries and disability units. There is a TV room and internet access as well as a swimming pool, trampoline, children’s playground, and undercover BBQ area. Have a dip in the spa pool, there is a dump point and car wash also available on site. Try fishing for your dinner in the river or explore the area on a bike available for hire.
The children can have fun on the hire pedal cars too. A tavern and fast food

Blenheim Palms Motel is situated approximately 100 meters to the central restaurants, bars, cafes, supermarkets, shops, and a 5-minute walk from the Marlborough Conference Centre and ASB Theatre. The Blenheim Palms Motel offers elegant, individually styled motel rooms with FREE WiFi and SKY GUEST SELECT 50+ CHANNELS. Some accommodation offers a hot tub or spa bath.

From manicured tranquil bush-clad grounds, this park’s outlook over the
serene Blue Lake is magnifcent. A 10 minutes drive from Rotorua, the park
rises gently up a terraced valley behind the offce/store entrance and just
across the road from a gorgeous white sandy beach. The 160 or so sites are
hedged or sheltered by native trees, and the park is criss-crossed with paths
and paved roadways for easy access. The whole 14 acre complex has a well
cared for appearance and is serviced by three kitchens, one being quite new,
roomy free showers, and modern toilet blocks and laundries. A disabled access
suite is provided and there’s a spa pool too. Enjoy your meals in the communal
dining room or cook in the covered BBQ garden. The two playgrounds have
trampolines, plus towards the rear of the camp is a recreation room with TV
and internet, with another separate TV lounge. A dump point, internet access  and payphone are available, and if you tire of the scenery, hire canoes, kayaks

A large complex set of five hectares of grounds, mainly catering for large
groups. Not many sites available, and a few permanents, but what is there
is well maintained in a park-like environment. The camping area has a tiny
field kitchen, disabled facilities, and toilets, also a swimming pool, confidence course and dump facilities are available. You are not able to book ahead in this campground, and availability is dependent on what groups are on site at the time. Pauline and her team are available to help with your enquiries.

A busy campground in summer, the sites are all open and well groomed, with
a view of the harbour. There is plenty of tent space, plus 17 power sites (13
have hard stands), divided into two sections by a hedge. The clean and tidy
kitchen/dining has an outside raised deck where you can dine overlooking
the water. The clean modern ablutions have gas hot water and a disability
suite, while the laundry has auto machines and a paved area under a clothes
line. The friendly caretaker is Brent Procter. Non powered sites are $20 per
adult, powered sites are $25 per adult, all children 12 and under just $10. An
honesty box is provided if the Brent is not around.

This camp has a boat ramp and 15 power points. Basic
camping with showers, toilets and laundry. All sites are $17 per adult.

A popular and spacious campsite in the Kauaeranga Valley, 6 km north of the visitor centre.

Down a gravel road south of Opotiki, you can camp surrounded by nikau palms
and tawa forest next to the Te Waiti Stream. This relaxed, self-registration campsite
is in picturesque surroundings and it is popular for fishing and swimming. Facilities
include toilets, picnic tables, BBQ areas and water supply from the stream. With
room for about 16 tents, no fees for camping here.

Relax on the shores of Lake Wanaka at this easily accessible and quiet campsite. Water sports include motor boating, skiing and fishing. Walks lead from the campsite around the lake.

Note: this camping area is currently closed.

Bowentown Beach Holiday Park lies at the southern end of Waihi Beach. Four
beaches within walking distance offer a choice of surf or sheltered harbour
swimming. The camp provides lots of extras: stock up at the mini-market,
soak in the 6-seater spa or stay in touch via Skype, wireless internet hotspot,
or email kiosks. For families there are kayaks and fun bikes for hire. Sites
are spread across three, well-drained sandy terraces, some with great sea
views out to Mayor Island. A few permanent ‘weekenders’ add to the charm
of this holiday spot. The central, well-equipped amenities are spacious and
immaculately clean. The ablutions offer metered unisex showers, as well as
the single-sex variety and a baby’s bath. A family bathroom and separate
disabled bathroom have been added. Another toilet block gives extra facilities.
There is an automatic laundry along with open-air tubs and wringer. A large social room/kitchen is in house-proud order with both, hob and microwave
cooking, plus fridge/freezer and outdoor BBQ cooking options. Kids have a
playground or on wet days can enjoy the superb Sky TV lounge and games
room. Fishermen will find a boat ramp, boat-park and fish-cleaning facilities at

Camp amongst the kānuka forest just off SH7 between Hanmer Springs and Lewis Pass. Boyle Campsite is on the Te Araroa Trail and at the end of the five-day tramp on the St James Walkway.

Directly off SHwy 1, just south of Bulls township are 12 powered sites located
in a line to the rear of the Motor Lodge. The Rangitikei River is nearby, with
plenty of sites for tents. The kitchen is pleasant with a TV lounge and the
ablutions have excellent showers. The large laundry has an auto washer and
drier and a dump point is provided. Relax in the spa or swimming pool
or venture to the river for a swim or a fish. The country setting is a little
overwhelmed by the adjacent highway and nearby Ohakea Airbase. Pets are
welcome here by arrangement. Your hosts are Denise and Chris Fleming.
Tent sites are $14 per person or with power, $16 per person.

This seaside resort is on the south coast, an easy drive from Dunedin. The
grounds are level, with the 24 gravelled power sites, unfortunately most of these are taken up by permanent residents so not many spaces available. All the facilities are well positioned, clean and modern, the kitchen has a stove and
microwave with a trellised and covered BBQ area for inside/outside eating. The
ablution block has disability suites for both sexes, and the laundry is equipped
with automatic machines. With a choice of ocean beach swimming, or a
shallow estuary for the children to play safely, this would be a great family camp.

Broken Hills Number of tent sites - 45 Maximum number of people - 200 Broken Hills campground. Broken Hills campground Camp beside the Tairua River and explore the old gold mining area around the steep cliffs. The Broken Hills Campsite near the end of Puketui Valley Rd is located beside the Tairua River amongst native bush. The camp operates on a first come, first served basis. It has toilets and a rubbish collection area, but no piped water. Water taken directly from the river or streams should be boiled or treated before drinking to reduce the risk of infection. A camp manager regularly visits the site during summer to check on camping, clean facilities and collect fees. An honesty box system operates at other times. Please be considerate to other campers and keep noise levels down. Camping outside designated areas is not permitted.

Situated just west of the junction of the Sanson/Wellington/Palmerston North highways, this camp can be accessed either by turning off State Hwy 1 into Philps Street or by looking for the Motel entrance round the corner on State Hwy 3.

We are around an hour and a half out of Wellington.

We have small, simple camping and caravan area at the back of the motel complex, which is set amongst shady willow trees and has shared toilets, shower and cooking facilities.
